Apologies. I was wrong about UK thanksgiving. At my church, they read out the proclamation by Queen Elizabeth II declaring the second Monday in October to be Canadian thanksgiving and I guess I've always incorrectly assumed it was the same in the UK. So many customs, laws, systems (and even the monarch) are shared that it is a surprise to find exceptions to the rule.

Apparently in the UK there are harvest festivals and some special church services in November, but it isn't given the same treatment as in the US and Canada.

It's really the Morris dancers you need to be aware, and wary, of.

Mine probably takes 5 seconds from PLAY to Frontier Logo.

When I click the mouse to skip the logo animations (yes, impatient!), it probably takes another 2 seconds to show me the main menu.

Sorry, I lied! I timed it last night. The breakdown of loading is as follows:

• After pressing PLAY, it takes 5 seconds to do anything at all. Still at desktop.
• I then get 5 seconds of black screen.
• I then get 7 seconds of a slightly different black screen.
• Then the Frontier logo appears.

So my previous post was totally wrong, it appears.

This joke would have been topical around the time First Encounters was released.
