Distant Worlds II Event Servers offline after the first jump of Distant Worlds 2. Come on Frontier!

i've half of a mind to say that nothing fdev could have done could've pervented this. We're talking about THOUSANDS of people jumping at the same time. No server survives that kind of stress test, its pretty much equal to a DDOS attack.
And honestly? Im amused, its not every day people can coordinate to that point.

FDev didn't think to test it? They must have a UAT environment and server they could have run a test on. I don't understand how basic stuff like this happening. There have now been 2 big group expedition - both have ended in embarrassment for FDev. Did they really not stop to consider whether the servers could handle it?

It just occured to me...

DW2 launches on a Sunday evening (UK time) - basically THE WORST time for servers on a normal, non-expedition day ;)

I'm kind of surprised that anyone thought a mass jump of that size was going to end any other way.

Its been made pretty clear by past experience that the infrastructure isn't upto the task of handling all those transactions at once.

Hate to be a killjoy...but its true.

To be fair myself, I cant name any other game that is so reliably unreliable. Its why I decided not to be part of the launch event, why I planned to let the first few hours of Gnosis skip, why I zoned-out of the Thargoid story line for a looong time etc. This isn't an isolated event; ED reliably craps out when 'important' stuff happens. And while this doesnt effect me, DWE2 folks (and every other paying customer who is out of a planned evening) has every right to be upset.

Fortunately it's early afternoon here. Still time to get back to playing. Provided the "turbulence" isn't too severe.

I logged on to do a little puttering about, then noticed how many people from DW1 showed up in my friends list. I thought to myself 'whoops, this might not be the best time to play'. A few jumps later and I was kicked and couldn't log back on.
I've decided to do something else today.

God speed DW2!

This sucks, was looking forward to having a chill Sunday morning. I'm a bit annoyed that a huge group of people basically crashed the game for everyone else...

I honestly believe that FD only cares bout the money being poured in to their pockets and not care about their player base and customers
