Shield Regeneration Lasers

I think there's a difference between content and features.
Healing laser is a feature. Content is where you actually have need for that feature, and that hasn't changed. Very cool feature though. :D

There must be a name for this fallacy, but it eludes me.

a) Not "everyone" asked for more content.
b) Of those people who did, some asked for this type of content, some for that. Sometimes mutually exclusive things were asked for by different people.
c) I remember only few people ever asking for guns that heal.
d) Missions are content. RES are content, trading is content. A gun is not content in my book.
e) No one is criticising the concept of engineers as "there are various NPCs which offer services to tune your ship and equipment". The criticism is directed against the specific implementation of the feature, in particular the means of accessing these services (grind even more rep (couldn't FD at least stick to allied as the maximum?), collect new types of currency, pay new currency for reward) and the type of reward (stat increases on equipment, heal beams).
 
People complaining about a lazer that sends energy to regenerate shields (while we have no details other than words no stats) but don't complain about Shield Cell Banks which are the exact same thing. What has this world come too.

Oh please don't tempt them. We have discussed those things to death. These SCB are fine now.
Also they are definitely NOT the exact same thing, so it is entirely possible that someone like me who likes SCB is very much opposed to shield regenerating lasers... which I am not by the way.

I do not know what to think about it yet. I feel I have too little information about this device. It depends on the way it is done I guess.
In general I welcome as much variation in devices and modules as possible.
 
Wow, what a depressing thread. This is one tiny taster of what is coming in the Engineers, I pity the developers who will have to deal with the fallout from Beta.

Personally, the fact that Engineers might be more interesting than +10% FSD, or +15% shield, is cause for celebration, rather than this ghastly whining.

Oh yeah. We can be sure of at least one complaint thread for every single modification the engineers can make once we get full details. :D
 
I have to say this is one of those issues I really don't understand what the complaints are about :p I actually think its a novel idea that I hadn't really thought of, it won't effect a vast majority of the playerbase because they fly solo but i'm sure it'll be a fun little extra for wings to try and help each other out when things go south.

Are there any arguments other than its silly?
 
If I'm honest, I really like the idea. Now someone in a wing will be have more of a supporting role as well as being able to fight, like a paladin in D&D.

I can't wait to see the other features.
