Yes I use my smaller longer ranged ships as taxis they aren't too expensive to call to my location and large jump range gives fast travel. But that is in the bubble area if I was going to Colonia I would plan on adapting my most expensive ship I wanted to take for better travel and fly that then call or buy smaller ships on arrival.
Another option is the disposable taxi, buy a hauler and A rate the FSD fly to your destination and call your ship when it arrives sell the taxi.
My OCD just HAD to come up with a naming convention because I have 35 of them, and stuff started overlapping. Still short a few unique ships, like the Beluga and the two scouts (DB/Asp) so I might have to go back over the ID system to free up some numbers. These two probably won't change again:
SIX07B (Hauler)
PLANET COAST 01
SIX should be obvious, 0 (zero) is the pad size (small), 7 is a unique fleet number, B is the usage - 'Bodies' aka passengers. Blue engine / weapon detailing. Paint job: Midnight Black.
SIX08B (Adder)
PLANET COAST 02
SIX again obvious, 0 (zero) is the pad size (small), 8 is a unique fleet number, B is the usage - 'Bodies' aka passengers. Blue engine / weapon detailing. Paint job: Midnight Black.
Two dedicated taxis that COAST between PLANETs (nod to other franchises).
The logic: Its cheaper to fly a big ship to deploy it yourself and call a cheap one to you for the return trip. Being able to send a ship ahead of you would be better (of course FDev, I'm looking at you!) but you can always make that the last trip of the session, sleep then fly back after the transfer.
Both ships were sourced and built to utilise the 15% Li Yong-Rui discount with D Class parts for optimal mass against lowest possible prices to further reduce the transfer costs, except for the Class A FSD and B Fuel Scoop. Both are also fully engineered to G5 max with roughly 40Ly range.
To alleviate the tedium of farming Datamined Wake Exceptions, both vessels feature a handy scanner so on leaving any given dock they can check all local FSD wakes before leaving the system. This habit formed in an earlier engineers patch so, all my non-combat ships have wake scanners.
May also come in handy if hyperdicted now the thargoids are inside the bubble.
