Naming after ships in novels.
Read the Expanse series last year and my ships currently are called Rocinante MK3 and Rocinante T7 (I'm a noob here, not much else yet). Also, my CMDR name is a mix of the main character in The Expanse "James Holden", my Steam account ID "Zorken" and incidentally it sounds a bit like ye old CMDR Jameson as a homage A T9 will be called Donnager T9.
My future explorer ship, whatever that will be, will be named "Lighthugger" after a ship class in the "Revelation Space" novel by Alastair Reynolds.
I like this mixing from different mediums.

I have a Norse theme for all (but one) of my ships. Appropriately, my home system is Jotun.
- Ragnorok (Fed Corvette)
- Jormungandr (Exploration Conda)
- Mjolnir (chrome AX Krait MKII)
- Himinhamr (Mining Python) translates from old norse to "sky hammer"
- Loki II (Stunt Adder)
- Baldr (gold Krait P.)
- Rapture (station rescue Orca)
- Tyr (CZ FDL)
For the ship ID on most of them i assign an appropriate Navy hull classification symbol (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hull_classification_symbol), and then add a number. I like having a solid theme for all my ships.

I name my ships mostly after the computer games I enjoyed as a kid on my fathers Atari ST:
- Currently I'm out exploring in a Krait Phantom called Starglider II
- My previous exploration ship was an Asp Explorer with gold paintjob called Goldrunner
- A T7 called Sundog (although the Type 6 looks more like it)
- A FDL called Foundations Waste
Currently my conda is "DW2 Hull Repair Ship" and my vette is "Zarek Null Security"
When I was white hat, they had names like "W. Tecumseh Sherman" and "Frederick Douglass" but turns out no one cares about the slaves in ED

My Asp X is called Nautilus, named after Captain Nemo's ship in 20,000 Leagues. It seemed a fitting name for an exploration craft.

My ship
My Asp Explorer started life as the "Caledonia" (I'm Scottish), but then I noticed something. The ship seemed to have quite a resemblance to the submarine "Proteus" in the 60s sci-fi movie "Fantastic Voyage", so I decided on a quick name-change.
