Ship Naming

Yes, please use some part of the name when hailed. It is amazing how just a tiny bit of voice acting can make a difference. When I heard The automated engineer docking message the first time I was wowed.

That's not how it works. As soon as a feature gets implemented everyone jumps on them why they are wasting their time with such an unimportant thing. Literally nobody asked for ship naming (ever) and everyone expected them to work on cockpit cats (very desirable BTW). It's time they listen to their player base, otherwise the game will be dead in x because of y.

Uh... I'll settle for ship naming. :)

Damn, got here too late.
Guess I'll reserve "Shippy MacShipson" (calling it Shippy MacShipface would be too close to it being called 'really really drunk' in swear words [downcast] ).

Cockpit Cats! - Yes please, pretty please.... Also Talking Parrots that can be trained. Devs - please drop everything else this second and concentrate all efforts on this money spinning (for you) add-on for the cockpit. I mean Commanders would pay through the roof for that Parrot (especially when it starts saying "Pew, Pew, Pew." when the guns are firing and "run away, run away" when the shields go down). [hehe]

:D

What's wrong with Loachie McLoachface?

Wonderful idea. Let's place cats into a zero G environment and then add furry dices or laser pointers dots that jump around. What could go wrong…

And then, let's dog fight. The cats won't know what hit them (hint, the walls of the ship).

That's really evil.

If you tie the cockpit cat under your ship it becomes a landing cat. They always land on their feet, nobody needs a docking computer.

About time. Way to wait till I need to come up with 27 different names Frontier. Luckily I'm only missing 5 names atm so I could figure out what to name those.

I'm currently docked at an Orbis station named Cummings Dock in CD-86 4. Ships with silly names can't be much worse than that. I've said it before and will say it again, real world ships have silly names as well. I live in Miami. I see stupid names on boats every time I'm near a dock

I think you've greatly underestimated the creativity of some of the cmdr and what they're capable of.

You fly in down the axis of stations, as soon as down was in all directions the landing cat would start the ship spinning like mad.

I am pretty sure that's how our fusion reactor works:

Ship naming!
Finally!

Let's hope it's not like paint jobs and bodykits a paid store item. 2.5 € per name…

There will surely be a small financial contribution to give for each name. For the financing of the game and also to limit a continual flood of change of names for the same ship. And also to finance the people affected to the moderation and the censorship

Cummings Dock is named after Alexander Cumming, inventor of the flush toilet (really: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Cumming).

Thought that was John Harrington, AC just improved it along with Joseph Bramah and George Jennings (for public conveniences), but obviously Thomas Crapper always gets my vote for bringing it all together for the public to get installed in home.

Thinking about this though, I'll likely be forced to rename ships unless multiples are allowed. My T9 is called Brick, my Cobra MkIII is 1984 (yes with wireframe paint job), my Adder is Armitage Shanks, my Asp Explorer is Boo, my hauler is Zafira (interior just too much like a people carrier so it won out against Robin Reliant), my Python is Petey, and so on, and I doubt I'm the only one with some of those.

Crikey, did Ed let slip that he'd seen pictures with the name on the side of the ship!

Ed said it, so it has to happen now Frontier. :)

I hope it's not *just* written on the ship.

I hope it's available somewhere on the HUD too, like with the uniquely named capital ships.

I'd say that it would be nice for some player ships to earn a name for themselves, but this would probably require unique names which I doubt would happen. I mean it would be cools to see a "Canonn Research Vessel 001" and know only one such ship existed.

Also probably want to avoid a "name grab" scenario and the repercussions around that.

I do think it would be great to see other people's ship name on the HUD though, maybe somewhere on the targetted ship detail panel.

Unlike CMDRs names, I'm willing to bet duplicates will be allowed
