Ship Outfitting should have a time delay

Edit: Yes I know this thread is trolling hard but to be honest I eventually hope for a system where you can only outfit ships you are not flying and it takes time.

So I can request my Anaconda goes into outfitting for combat and that takes 2 hours because every single module is being replaced. I can then carry on flying my Cobra until thats changed over and then swap out. On my way out the door I ask for my Cobra to be changed to a smuggling loadout for when I return as I know there's a CG I want to get involved in after I've engineered my Anaconda.

This isn't the first time such a silly request popped up. Heck, sometimes the same reasoning was made for existing poor gameplay reasons (like when people defended long shield recharge times even at stations).

There's always a simple question to ask: what is to be gained by doing this?

If the answer is "well, it might be a bit more immersive / realistic, IMHO" then it's a terrible reason (very very subjective, no actual gameplay reasoning) and the idea should be scrapped immediately.

The funny thing is: at least for hardpoints, utility points, paint jobs and decals, ship outfitting actually has some kind of delay, namely the time the animation of replacing the specific weapon or whatever takes to finish. It's very short, but I like it a lot, and for me, it makes the whole experience a little richer. It's maybe not relevant for gameplay, but not everything has to be, and it gives me the feeling that something was actually worked on my ship to upgrade it.

I'd love to see some similar animation take place when repairing, refueling or cargo loading a ship, perhaps with the times it takes slightly varying (perhaps between 1 and 5 seconds), depending on how much damage has to be repaired/cargo to be loaded/fuel...fueled.

Of course, creating these animations means some work for the 3D artists, but I think it would be absolutely worth it!

Hehe, I always had similar thoughts (how come it's instant?) in the Hangar - but not on Outfitting.

Rather : Repairs.

A Corvette, Cutter or FdL that's nearly a complete wreck. Click and *rattle* as good as brand new again within a split Second :D
Wouldn't mind waiting at least a few Minutes while it's being repaired - bascially like a super-turbo-charged AFMU with unlimited Ammo at work.

No showstopper or Game-changer, just something symbolic (max. a few Minutes) that tells me Repairs take at least a little time.

because this game doesn't already take enough time to play? LOL

If anything the devs are implementing changes that are the opposite of this that will encourage more people to play who arent prepared to drop an inordinate amount of time on ED. bigger player base = more money for devs = yet more features for everyone. will only be a good thing.

Personally I really look forward to the instant transfer. It will allow us to use a variety of more specialized ships instead of just using the same ship all of the time. Having multiple ships is not appealing at all when you're forced to spend hours just to get them. Also, the fact that we'll be able to easily transfer weapons and internals between ships will make it even more appealing for players to try new ships, instead of always sticking with the same thing. And of course, since having multiple ships is a lot more expensive than just having a single one, it will enhance the feeling of progression trough the game, not only because it give players a bigger credit sink, but also because it will make the sidegrade a viable and cheaper alternative to the upgrade (ex: instead of selling my FDL to upgrade to a python or anaconda, maybe I'll keep my fdl and buy an exploration or trading ship instead.)

It makes no sense that you get replaced instant in a new ship after it was destroyed. It should take time to rescue your escqpe pod, build a new ship that is like your old and it should take time to heal your wounds.

Loading of any sort of cargo should take time because instant loading doesn't make sende and should prevent people from making money too fast with trading.

It should take more time to get in your srv instead of getting instant beamed to it.

Reloading should take more time.

Repairing your ship should take much more time and not getting an instant button.

Did you get it? If we have a time delay that makes sense we weren't able to play a game. Instead we would play a game of waiting screens and everything you do would take an insane amount of time. It would be like "today i load my T9 full of cargo so that i can fly tomorrow to the starport and the the day after tomorrow it should be empty so that i can make something else. Oh and if i get attacked during the fight i can add an additional day for repairing the ship before i continue the travel"

Better don't make such suggestions ever again. This ruins the game.

Yeah, it's fine the way it is, thanks.

I get a few hrs per day to play (you know, job, wife, etc..) and the game's got many aspects that are already massive time sinks as it is without adding more.

As the person above said, adding in these demands would make what is a 'game' just a massive series of loading screens and waiting times.

We haven't all got 12-15 hrs a day to add in that kind of 'realism'.

If, however, this was a troll: nicely played sir.

The issue here is that it can completely stop you from playing the game if you only have one ship. A delay on ship transfer doesn't stop you at all.

I know what the original poster is trying to point out, but it doesn't make much sense.

As it happens I wouldn't mind a token delay on outfitting, engineering upgrades and cargo loading.

Ah.. now, if we could walk around and actually see these things happening in game while walking to one of the station's pubs.. yeah, it suddenly sounds a lot better!

Depends how much it will cost. If you need to pay 10x the cost of the ship, you might think twice about instant transfer.

However, it is still a valid point: instant refit, instant refuel, instant fix, instant rebuild, these don't break immersion. But ship transfer is the one that does. Right.

Do I have to explain it to everyone making this point? ALL those other examples LOCK YOU OUT from PLAYING the game... ship transfer DOESN'T.

Also a animation/delay on ship repairs would be cool.

I'm with the OP, everything should have a realistic delay.

E.g. how can repairs be instantaneous? Surely, where the station does not supply any modules needing repair, any repair request should trigger mission to deliver the requisite tech prior to the work being done?

Similarly, it has always broken my immersion that the application of a paint-pack is instant, repainting a ship should take at least a week.

...oh wait a minute...
