Ships you want to see in Elite: Dangerous?

I think this needs to be put to bed now.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and in all the years I've been posting on here it's always been a friendly and educated (or in my case uneducated) discussion with no antagonist posts. I'd hate to think this would change as it's one of the very few forums like this.

On a personal note,

Steve has always been the perfect gentleman on here, even though he's one of those Aussie/kiwi chappies ;) and I consider him one of the stalwards of the forum.

Time to agree to disagree guys and enjoy the fact that E4 is on its way :D

Yea, retaining something like this for E4 would be good for me:

http://www.sharoma.com/frontierverse/ship_specs.htm

Ships that are different at base level, but configurable to a degree, but you may need to upgrade for greater jump distance, more cargo, etc.

Just the other day I upgraded my Eagle to a Sidewinder because I couldn't fit a fuel scoop to the Eagle. For some reason all this Elite hubbub has prompted me to start a new game in FE2.

I used to spend hours just reading the 'Manual' that came with Elite - it was so well written and had cracking drawings in it. It was amazing how much it fleshed out the experience and caused extraordinary immersion when you consider that we were looking at wireframe and rapidly shifting pixels. Genius really. I'd so love to see that 'lore' bought to the fore again with Elite: Dangerous - all the cool references to things like the Lance & Ferman lasers and homing missiles. Oh how long we searched for Generation Ships and Space Dredgers, not to mention the ship graveyards.

So clever.

I hope they add interesting and peculiar sights like that. It would add so much depth with things to explore and discover.

You could also use them to your advantage perhaps... dogfighting in a ship graveyard, disappearing from sight as you power down your engines and then drifting with all the other junk until the time is right to pop back out and blast your foe away! :)

'Imagining Boba Fett drifting away with the destroyer junk and then following the Falcon...'

Just the idea of floating through a huge space hulk with external spots passing over the surface gives me goosebumps. Watching the dogfight video showed me that they were making the flight dynamic far more conducive to weaving in and out of obstacles and that is just awesome.

Death Star run anyone ? :D

That's no moon!

Hi all, apologies for not seeing this thread sooner.

Please refrain from naming and shaming, trolling, baiting and inciting others into a flame-fest. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion(s), however verbally-attacking them is not a good means of doing as such. Debating is always welcome, as long as it remains in a positive, constructive atmosphere.

If the abusive posts continue, I'll begin removing posts that are not in adherence to the forums rule set, which can be found here.

Thanks! :)

ok, just read back a few pages and i see there are some differences in opinion as to how EF and FFE ships worked..

So this is what i know of the games.

missiles could not be carried as cargo and you are limited to how many hard points the ship had. Guns also had hard points and the number and position was set for each ship, the size of the gun would take up cargo space, although there was some issues in witch some ships said they hard 2 front guns but you could only fit one. hyperdrive size was limited for each ship based on cargo space, unless you knew the mining machine glitch, then you could get an Eagle km3 with 120 tone cargo bay =P, hyperdrive range was bassed on ship mass and drive type, fuel scoop did also take up space but it had a use as the name sugests, and all other equipment was subject to cargo space

Speaking of ships (sorry if this has been mentioned before)... but i think it'd be good if we could name them and replace their existing reg. I have no problems with the convention used in FE2/FFE, such as YV-138, but if we could personalise them as well that'd be great.

It might have to be on a first come first served basis if used as a ships unique identifier but it would give us that little extra element of personalisation. Imagine walking up to your ship, and knowing its your ship because it has the name "Saucy Sue" embossed on its hull :D

It could be a dual registration, ship number designated by the game as before and username i.e Commander thingy as in FFE when the tags could be turned on or off. depending on if you want to be recognised.

The thread's gone a bit sideways, but I thought I'd answer to the original question as well. Basically, one of my favourite ships besides Cobra Mk III was Wolf Mk II from the Amiga version of Elite. I'd very much like to see it in E:D as well.

Sorry joining late, would like more on the Space dredgers and Generation ships (Rendezvous with Rama) type sub mission, unknown craft out in the futher reaches .

And of course the Ford Capri of ships the Cobra Mk3 , will get some fluffy dice with mine and a bumper sticker :)

Ah we have a hard sci-fi man here :D I agree, the potential for great story missions is endless. There was a piccy I posted a while ago that got my mind fizzing on the Rama lean:
