I've been debating whether or not to stay around the Pleides region to experience any Thargoid activity, or if I should go out into the black to visit Colonia. Which should I do?

Whatever your heart tells you to do. Personally the thargoids aren't floating my boat and I've just headed out.
Do what you fancy. How can anyone else know what you want to do?

Colonia is feeling less and less like "the black." It's nearly doubled in size since I've been out there and now even "A" class modules are available in some ports. And with six stations along the way and supposedly three more from Chapterhouse, getting there isn't much of an adventure anymore....of course you can opt out of those and it's a little more adventurous.
Personally, I came back to the bubble for 2.4. going to stick around for awhile and see how it plays out.
