Exactly.
What this new people lost? Few credits after suicewinder express? And this is reason to whole drama? Just swallow this lesson.

They didnt lost anything.
They were provided with credits to buy and outfit mining ships, they were instructed how to mine and they got to keep like 20% of the profits.

If they took the sucidewinder the moment they arrived at the mining location, the only ones that would suffer a loss would be the "slavers" since at that point they already invested credits in the ships they provided to their employees

You are forgetting reputational damage to Frontier - which is almost certainly what all this is about.

Yea I've seen that mentioned a few times by others. Who exactly do you think will be turned off buying the game or its expansions for a space based shooter with drug references, slavery (npc) and an overall pretty dystopian narrative?

One question for you - why are you conflating (potential) loss of sales with reputational damage? Despite one being able to influence the other, they are completely different things.

The 7yo was fooled, the 10yo after being in Discord for a while went and got Daddy so was obviously fooled at first until something happened.

When my daughter was that age she was begging me to let her play DAoC. and that never happened.
She got to play Club Penguin. Under supervision.

The only adults that should take the blame are the parents for letting the kids to play in a cuthroat galaxy

Maybe ED needs one of these:

I.e. don't let them play without you being there with them.

Yeap, This ^^

I personally I don't think that there is much cause to be concerned about future "arbitrary and profoundly unfair" interventions from Frontier because:
  • As far as I can tell, the only reason Frontier intervened, in this case, is becuase the specific player activity garnered bad press.
  • So, there actually is cause for concern - it is enough that some halfwit pretending to be journalist will write some Bull, and voila - ban is coming, even though it is preposterous. Because of the bad so-called-press.
  • All this is happening in front of the backdrop of Frontier preparing to release probably the last major expansion to the (current iteration of the) game, and they don't want people to be put off buying Frontiers games and expansions.
  • Well, then in my case they've failed terribly, as it is actually Frontier behavour that put me off.

Not a game, but is entertaining. I'm here for the same reasons you are. But there's a faction here who attacks other people for stating something we all learned as kids: slavery is wrong. Deceit and manipulation aren't great stuff either.

Our faction is full of adults who believe our play can include horrible subjects - like slavery, deceit, and manipulation. It's because we recognize that entertaining an idea, exploring it, seeing it where it leads and so on, does not automatically mean we accept the idea.

Play is an excellent place to explore the dark sides of our shared humanity. It actually concerns me you don't seem to realize or engage in this. What un-examined beliefs are there in your life, I wonder?

It's like Stellaris. I'm going to murder all those filthy organics, and actually think through the consequences of such an action and what that might mean in the context of the game's setting, but obviously I'm not a Terminator T-800 class murderbot.

Couldnt agree more. How many parents do you know who know as much as you do and realise the implications about online harms?

Thats a staggering assumption. Ill assume the same parent got in touch with Frontier and provided all the screenshots of all the conversations and from Discord and its against their EULA and thats why they took action as much as anything. Ill also assume the same process was used to contact Discord IF that story is true that Discord have censured them.

You're a long way of 20K people agreeing with you on this one it seems.

But the equitability of the arrangement isn't really a consideration here - well not for Frontier it's not. Framing the discussion around fairness or morality misses the point entirely, assuming that what you are primarily interested in is how Frontier dealt with it.

So, there actually is cause for concern - it is enough that some halfwit pretending to be journalist will write some , and voila - ban is coming, even though it is preposterous. Because of the bad so-called-press.
Frontier cant control press coverage - they can control what happens in-game. If there was a high risk of other "ploys" being implemented in emergent gameplay which have a high chance to garner bad press, then you would have a point. But can anyone think of one which is plausible? I cant.

If I`m wrong, look on the bright side - things are about to get hilarious.

That's just NPCs though, right?
You certainly wouldn't do that to real humans in multiplayer, right? Right?

And what do I need those 20k ppl for? I don't need their consent to decide what to with my money.
And as for parent - the guy lef two kids with ED alone - who was making screenshots? Screenshots of what? The way I see it - you are making some very far fetched assumptionts here.

I find it hilarious that people take the "blaze your own trail" sales pitch so literally.

We have similar in ESO, where the phrase "play your way" is used, and then people complain they can't compete in PvP with bad gear or beat HM raids with mix-match sets.

Guys, use some common sense, read the ToS. It's an MMO, so if you thought there are no boundaries with social interactions... Yeah. RIP your accounts bois!

Well, I don't need an empire.

I'm not sure who you're talking about there but I sincerely hope it's not me. Simply making the same continually false accusation about my stance on that but bottling out of using my name doesn't make you look any more noble you know. Just saying. Like I said before, you really shouldn't look to extrapolate generalities when people have been talking about specifics.

Nope, not you. Just a general statement. Again, I'm not sitting here thinking of you like you're my enemy or something man. We can fight then I'll buy you a beer, that's just how I am.

I find it interesting that it's perfectly okay to call others carebears, pearl clutchers, and otherwise moralistic crusaders. Those generalities are totally fine. But heaven forbid we levy a single solitary thing in our defense....
