News Sneak Peek - Illegal racing in an installation

Good thing Frontier spent all these resources on dune buggies instead of adding actual content to the game. Really? Dune buggies? 404 Content Not Found.

A deeper universe with more possibilities for play facilitates more content.

That giant base is really cool but I can't help noticing how nobody's there apart from the players.FPS and human models should have come first.
Oh well.

FPS and human models would have been pretty pointless if all you could do is walk around inside your ship. An environment for them to walk around in/on needs to be there first. In any case they are working on the character creator, so it's not as if this feature is being ignored.

This could be justified by the fact that people would have little to do walking outside the walls of the base on an airless world. They would likely remain inside the installations.

However it would be nice to see a couple of small NPC vehicles roaming about...

Other than it being very nice - the other thing that struck me is the lack of people or vehicles. You'd think there would be construction vehicles moving around or people in space suits...

It seems very lifeless.

The problem is the same in the space. Hopefully one day, Frontier brings animations

This is only a demo.....a debug version put together for testing various functions.

I agree, but I imagine it will have to wait until further down the line. You have to be able interact with anything they add, so full driving-about AI would be needed.

It would add a lot though!

Looks like fun! The bases on each of the recent videos look really amazing, the scale of things becomes very apparent when you're on the ground and see everything from that perspective. Tuesday can't come soon (not TM) enough!

Yep. Remember videos of Braben's QA stream: ships taking off while the player was wandering in SRV. I have no doubt active bases would feel alive enough even without SRV NPCs (the one from this sneak peek seems like in defend mode, so every activities could be on hold because of that - or just for the sake of letting players having fun racing)

I have a serious question about the design choice here. Is it just in this video and the glare from the lights of the base that the buggies are racing in that creates a glare that stops us seeing the night sky?

I have seen other videos and I do not recall seeing the night sky in all its glory from the moos etc. shhown in those videos...

Much of what we dont see of the night sky on Earth in real life is determined by polution and terestrial light interfering with the visual spectacle. For example, in stone age times, man could see a hell of a lot more than we can currently see. I don't see any stars in these videos and especially on planets with no atmosphere this most certainly should not be the case.

If you look closely, you can see that there is some sort of mist covering the base. All the lights are showing rays, you can see where the hover-gnats are as their lights are raying. That and the sun is up, so it is 'day time' as well.

I would say that the combination of sun up and mist is more likely the reason you do not see any stars during this clip than the base lights.

Hello, the video capturing really needs improvement. Even in 1080 it looks very blurry and washed up and its very choppy too (stuttering)!
