Phone rang, took right hand off controller and picked it up. Smacked into a big yellow star. Horrible firey carnage. Never answering phone again.

I was showing my dad the beauty of the coriolis space station, complete with "ooooo" and "aaaaahhs" when I forgot to lower my landing gear upon entry then inexplicably pressed the boost button about 10m from the landing pad.

Needless to say, it was the end of my Viper, and 8t of Gold. And a 20k insurance bill.

Words couldn't describe my embarrassment, especially after gloating just how fast I could dock...

Of course OP, have ded many times.
The last time I died was in my Asp over 1200LY away from inhabited space. I had gotten too close to a star and turned off most of my modules to save on heat damage... I forgot to turn them back on

Alpha 1, bound throttle on my joystick and immediately flew backwards into an asteroid blowing myself up.

Checked options and set throttle to forward only...

Ran out of fuel after jumping three systems without finding a single station to refuel. Self-destructed since I had no fuel scoop. Now I carry one wherever I go.

Did you also get an additional fine for loitering after paying the insurance?

I crashed my Cobra into a station right next to the entrance, cargo full with tobacco. Guess i underestimated the weight. Would have made for a great anti-smoking commercial.

My first and only death was being utterly destroyed by a trio of authority vessels because I forgot to turn my shields back on.

Not 100% sure but I think it was in the "supply strike" mission, when it was a hard anaconda in alpha.
Took a few attempts to complete that one.

Hitted the Cargo Scoop instead of FSD and until i realized what i did they got me.

Was chasing a wanted Cobra in my Viper. The Cobra wasn't firing at me., and I was about to finish him off. Suddenly I went from full shields and hull to dead for reasons unknown.

In Beta boosting casually away from an attacker F/A off, near a station whilst on the phone to my daughter. With half an eye on the game, vaguely wondering why my monitor was lighting up all red and why the NPC was being so persistent. Realising WAY too late that it wasnt an NPC, it was a well known PC pirate... The last 30 seconds, as I cleverly powered around the station to try and avoid the pirate were quite exciting. But they were the last 30 seconds...
