So I checked out Elite after ditching it for Star Citizen

I wish I could have meme that about

Elite Dangerous should be renamed the Dangerous Cult, such is the devotion to anything that dares interfere,
Coming from someone who's description of Star Citizen sounds like a CIG press release that has little bearing on reality, that's a bit rich.

given that I'm a survivor? of Gnosis 👀
The Gnosis 'event' is a good example of blindly following talking heads on the internet with their own motives saying how it was meant to be this or that when Frontier clearly said that they were leaning into the Gnosis situation with something that was fun at short notice, but not to expect anything like what the Proteus event was. And make no mistake that these same talking heads were fully aware of what Frontier was saying all along as well.

I was there and based on my expectations I thought it was pretty cool to see what actually happened unfold. But where the wind blows is where some folks goes..

What happend to developing this game ? Where are all the new things that were promised, where is the feature rework that they talked about ?
I won't comment on SC as I don't have it so can't compare it myself. My computer would never run it so no point looking.

From what I can tell with development of ED is FDev seem more interested in the story aspect. I'm guessing some players have enjoyed the whole thargoid invasion thing and FD just continued it. After Odyssey was first released I really think they tried their best to improve it but ended up just banging their head against the wall over and over. There have been some improvements but let's face it, Odyssey will never be wonderful and perform like a dream.

Cough Space Engineers cough.

Excuse me, stupid allergies!
Take off from a planet's surface, enter space, disembark from their ship, float through space to another ship, board it, fight the crew Use an angle grinder to 51% destroy onboard computers, then weld them back to 100%, then fiddle around in menus to set yourself as owner of the ship, then take buld a seat, and start flying it around configuring cockpit menu options and then fly it around.

Close enough I guess. That said, by god the NPC/mobs situation in SE is beyond embarrassing at this point. (I guess we'll have to see what they build onto the Automotons update down the line). It's probably better than being simultaneously amazing and broken on every level like SC, though.

Church of SE, that is.

To be fair, there aren't any other space sims out there that allow a player to take off from a planet's surface, enter space, disembark from their ship, float through space to another ship, board it, fight the crew, then take a seat and start flying it around. I'll give them that. It's ambitious
Ludicrous. Even with modern tech, let alone something in the far future, an asset as expensive as a starship is going to have virtually impassable security - you wouldn't be able to hijack it by boarding it and flying it instantly. Sensors would fail to identify you as crew and internal environmental or weapon systems would instantly shred you. This isn't Flash Gordon of the 1930s. You'd need subterfuge, probably posing as a passenger, blackmailing a real crewmember into giving you their identity or programming you into the security database. Having even less security than a modern car is just bonkers.

Yes, but I have this amazing little piece of tech that can unlock any Rayfield in the city.

No, Flash Gordon would never have been fighting weird alien space flowers that got mad at him for stealing their moon shinies.

I hide in the cargo bay.

That all might mean something to somebody. It means nothing to me.

Pegasus 494 should deal with that.

Calling Elite an arcade game next to Star Citizen is laughable. Both games have shooting but arcade games tend to have pretty backgrounds that follow the action. Tell me, which game's starfield is just a pretty background?
Where did i mention star citizen?

It looks to be all the things I hate about sci-fi - rootin' tootin' space Americans shooting stuff, for people who think accountant penned Disney stories aimed at the lowest common denominator have depth.

If history has taught us anything, it's that the criminal is never very far behind technology.

Even today with finger print, voice recognition ignition locks, Ferrari's and Bugatti Veyrons are still stolen every day. The biggest and most technologically advanced and secure servers are still hacked (U.S. Army, Citibank, Equifax, etc.) In the future it would be no different. DNA cloners, retina emulators, etc. would all be the staple of the modern thief.

Just an idle thought, but should the word ‘chaos’ have a fixed spelling?
Nothing need have a fixed spelling in our post-unicode hell. I give you chaos, each with a unique spelling:

chaos, chаos, сhaos, chaоs, chaoѕ, cһaos, сhаos, chаоs, chаoѕ, cһаos, сhaоs, сhaoѕ, сһaos, chaоѕ, cһaоs, cһaoѕ, сhаоs, сhаoѕ, сһаos, chаоѕ, cһаоs, cһаoѕ, сhaоѕ, сһaоs, сһaoѕ, cһaоѕ, сhаоѕ, сһаоs, сһаoѕ, cһаоѕ, сһaоѕ, сһаоѕ

And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. - Genesis 11:6-11:7
