So I checked out Elite after ditching it for Star Citizen

No, it's not the skin - it's the repeating terrain features. Hills aren't skin. Mountains aren't skin. Valleys aren't skin. Chasms aren't skin. Textures are skin, but I ain't talking about textures.

The entire planet surface is nothing but a skin (composed from several layers)
In legacy that skin was generated in a less realistic manner, which allowed for some really crazy terrain features
in Odyssey, they used a more scientific approach - obviously resulting in less dramatic planets (however the crazy ones were really rare in legacy - most of them were much more bland than what we have now in Odyssey)

And the starforge is not really dealing with the planets skins, but with stars (and planets) masses and orbits and physical characteristics - those were not changed, only the way the planetary terrain was generated

I wish I could have meme that about
Elite Dangerous should be renamed the Dangerous Cult, such is the devotion to anything that dares interfere, like waves on their ocean view;
Except for that person, other than me, reportedly somewhere in the Caribbean, who knew something was amiss - 👀

The "scientific approach" has resulted in easily identifiable features repeating. That didn't happen with ethe legacy version, which also generated the more interesting terrain instead of the levelled and averaged crap the generator outputs now. Science isn't worth much if it is meant to be fun because it's a game. Science belongs in educational software maybe. They used the "scientific approach" to lower computation and ease performance so they could put some more triangles in the graphics or some unimportant nollocks like that. End result is you get more boring, repeating terrain than before. But you have a pixel more in your fidelities - what a great deal...

From everything known about Chris Robber and Clown Imperium Games' modus operandi and the abuses and trash talk perpetuated by SC's fanatical fans that populate their forums, your reply would make more sense if it was changed to:

"Scam Citizen should be renamed the Deluded Gullible Violently Fanatic Cult, such is the devotion to anything that dares interfere, like waves on their ocean view;"

Maybe you are mixing up the conversations of one forum, with the ones from the other...

Yes, very true, it was just the numerous emotes that garnered such a "worldly" response
I just thought that your vastly idealized interpretation of events concerning SC, was hilarious!!!

Therefore, the numerous emotes. I almost fell of my chair laughing, as I realized that, after 10 years (!!!), there are still people who could believe that such "project" is NOT a total scam that will NOT perpetuate "Alpha" stage for ever.

I bookmarked a fascinating article about this from a few years ago. Apparently, openly complaining about things we enjoy doing is a weird form of invitation to bonding with others, as well as a form of stress relief. Within communities like this one, it's also potentially a means of communicating just how much we actually enjoy the game, sort of like a strange, semi-covert declaration of just how invested we are in Elite Dangerous.
Group Therapy. :)

I laughed so hard, it's impossible to type.....

And after a few minutes.... and another glass of Masset. I do apologise for using the words Cult and Dangerous in the same sentence, as I do enjoy a good red 👀
