So.....that Tech Broker

The tech broker seems to be the way Engineers should work IMO. Jump through some hoops to unlock stuff then just buy the cool module you want off the shelf.

What can get interesting is when it’s time to decide on spending those hard to get materials/data on unlocking tech broker or high level engineering?

Or just do both? This game is largely about progression anyway, at least we aren't getting yet another new currency :)

Excellent. Hard choices are good for gameplay.

We can only pray that inara.cz gets updated. Or Frontier add some UI to indicate exactly what each mat can be used for.

I wonder if we'll get anything other than weapons from this tech broker. If if we don't I'm not gonna complain (too much), this is exactly what the game needs (well, one of the things that it needs at least!).

Just remember guys that the tech broker is very much an alpha build idea, and the prices are beta level as are the modules. Lots of prices and modules are most likely going to get adjustments yet.

I think it will be interesting going forward if some things can only get unlocked from the tech broker if you take part in certain actions.

There was some of this shown in the livestream in that for the missiles you had to have interacted with thargoids.

There may be large Guardian ruins like missions, that you have to do to be able to unlock certain items. If you miss the window then the opportunity to get that tech is gone.

There could also be special community goals that offer the opportunity to gain access to certain items.

I can certainly see how the new megaship interactions could be tied in with getting certain materials. That then allows certain rare pieces of kit to be unlocked. This could then allow specialist pirate kit or explorer tools.

Essentially the path you take in game defines what you can unlock. It could form a tech tree similar to those found on strategy games such as civilisation.

There could be some benefit to some unlocks being mutually exclusive (eg offence or defence but not both), potentially unlocking the second re-locks the first so both can be used, just not simultaneously.

Remember CMDR’s

FD showed off new modules at FD Expo that are clearly based on Guardian technology. It’s pretty obvious now that these modules are going to be introduced into the game via the Tech Broker.

I forsee hordes of rabid space nerds descending like locusts on Guardian ruins farming exotic mats for these new modules!

So, Tech Brokers.

Basically Engineers.

Honestly I don't see a significant difference.

e. I'm sorry to sound snarky but it seems to me that FDev only have one theme - I am utterly uninspired - and it is NO more a 'personal narrative' than engineering. Zero.

e2. the Chieftain looks very very very cool - 1000/10 for THAT!!!!

I'm sure they mentioned (or I read this somewhere before tonight) that the limits for both data and materials will be raised to 100 per data type/material.
That would alleviate my issues with this then. With the material broker added in it could actually be a pretty good system even for obtaining 30 pieces of a very rare material.

I don't think "personal narrative" is a good way to describe this new feature. It's just another system to lock content, like Navy ranks.

We just mean that it’s different from everyone unlocking the same thing... and building a ship that feels like it’s your own. I think that phrase will make more sense as time goes by.

Like 'telepresence' kind of sense? It seems completely analogous to the naval ranks to me. I'm happy with this kind of gameplay but the two are clearly similar in concept.

I noticed a Corrosion Resistant Cargo Rack and a Meta Alloy Hull Reinforcement in amongst the weapons so we'll definitely have some tech items other than weapons to choose from.
