Engineers So you've run out of inventory space...

What I have, and what I need to fully kit out at least 1 new big ships with Shield Res and Incendiary Meta, and some AMFU, MC Reload and Jumponium Synthesis. Plenty of Material space, and will have plenty of data space once the new Engineers arrive and I can dump 150 on them.

CHEMICAL STORAGE UNITS
CHROMIUM 12 6

I don't have the game - waiting for the ps4 version. I've seen people complain about lack of storage. What are chemical storage units?

Materials with limited uses are:

  • Antimony - only required for Heavy Duty Shield Booster grade 5
  • Biotech Conductors - only required for Short Range and Long Range Weapon grade 5
  • Chemical Distillery - only required for Charge Enhanced Power Distributor grade 3 and FSD Long Range grade 4
  • Improvised Components - only required for Reinforced Shield Generator grade 5
  • Pharmaceutical Isolators - only required for Dirty Drive Tuning grade 5
  • Zirconium - only required for Explosive Hull Reinforcement grade 3 and Overcharged Weapon grade 5
Useful list thanks. Something I haven't seen covered in the thread is synthesis.

Of the above:

Antimony - required for premium MC ammo synthesis
Zirconium - required for premium MC ammo synthesis

One of them might be required for jump range too, can't remember and can't check just now.

Not for jump range, but zirconium is used for the +15% MC ammo as well, also for both the increased speed AFM refills.

Yes! I have been searching for something like this for the last hour :/ Was about to give up, do the research myself and post my findings - Thankfully now I don't need to! Many thanks o7

Edit:
In case anyone wanted, for synthesis mats I use the wikia page -

http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Synthesis

I understand not adding them to the OP here, that is about engineer blueprints. However I personally find the synthesis info handy to have bookmarked as well.

I dont know why you dont just load EdEngineer.
Choose the blueprints and synthesis you want and it generates a shopping list of the items you need, and keeps track of how many you have. I dont think it has 2.3 yet, but apart from that it does it all for you.
You can store the materials for LOTS of rolls when you know what you need and throw away the others.

OK XBoxers are at a disadvantage, but they are only XBoxers ;)

It has to run borderless (I think?) to capture the data though.

I dont think so, it just reads the log files.
Good thing I found yesterday, if you dont like the interface or the functionality, you can extract all the data from it into Excel (or anything else), so you can just use its log scraping capabilities to track your materials in any way you wish.

Just a heads up,

Exceptional Scrambled Emission Data - only required for Efficient Weapon grade 3

Is no longer true, its also used in the specialised shield cell bank grade 3 mod (the max you can do). This mod reduces the heat from shield cell banks, if you get a really good roll you don't need heat sinks at all, and even a decent roll means the damage is negligible.

The only reason i mention this is because Exceptional Scrambled Emission Data is like rocking horse poo, and only available from the mission board.

Hmm... don't suppose you have screenshots of the specialised shield cell bank modifications do you? The data I have here might be significantly incorrect.

Updated for 2.3

N.B. This is based on the data that we have so far about engineers. I'll try to keep it up-to-date as the data for more engineers becomes available. If you see any erroneous information here please let me know. E&OE.

You will sooner or later reach the point where you need to discard some of your inventory. The question is: what do you throw out? Here is some information that might help you make your decisions.

Materials

These are the materials that have no known use by engineers:

  • Basic Conductors
  • Chemical Storage Units
  • Compact Composites
  • Crystal Shards
  • Heat Resistant Ceramics
  • Tempered Alloys

Unknown Fragments are required to meet Professor Palin, but not in any known blueprints.

Data

The data that have no known use are:

  • Peculiar Shield Frequency Data
  • Unidentified Scan Archives

Data with limited uses are:

  • Anomalous FSD Telemetry - only required for FSD Interdictor Long Range grade 3
  • Datamined Wake Exceptions - only required for FSD Long Range grade 5
  • Eccentric Hyperspace Trajectories - only required for FSD Long Range grade 4
  • Exceptional Scrambled Emission Data - only required for Efficient Weapon grade 3
  • Modified Embedded Firmware - only required for Double Shot Weapon grade 5 and Overcharged Weapon grade 5
  • Security Firmware Patch - only required for Double Shot Weapon grade 4
  • Strange Wake Solutions - only required for FSD Interdictor Expanded Arc grade 4 and FSD Long Range grade 3
  • Tagged Encryption Codes - only required for FSD Interdictor Long Range grade 2 and Expanded Arc grade 3
  • Unusual Encrypted Files - only required for FSD Interdictor Long Range grade 1 and Expanded Arc grade 2

Thanks, much appreciated.

Did a video on the ED Engineer tool by msarilar. Think it will help you guys out.
EDEngineer is an excellent tool! I always have it running. One note though, it does not change your inventory when you donate mats/data to Engineers for access to them. Like the Decoded Emission Data to Hera Tani for example. When you donate these you have to manually update your inventory. Not sure why it doesn't register it, but it's a very tiny inconvenience for such a great third party app!
Highly recommended!

This is excellent.

I always have to browse inara and manually compare with the endless list of bazillions of materials/data to check if I can already craft some new mod (throw coins at the slot machine but oh wel...)

Also, when I run out of storage space and have to throw stuff away, its not easy to remember from the the endless list of bazillions of materials what can be easily replaced or not.

Thanks for keeping this one alive. Is it an idea to expand it to also include mats for synthesis? Or maybe there are no materials on the no-use list that could be used for synth? I honestly don't know :)

Edit: I ran a cursory check, and found one to illustrate: Antimony is used for Multi-cannon premium synthesis. Would it be an idea to also include these?

(Disclaimer: I didn't read all the pages, perhaps it's already been mentioned. If so: sorry :) )

Once you have set how you want to be informed IE "voice", is there a way to change it to "toast", I cant see where the option is.

I would genuinely like to know what FDev's thought is behind the huge number of mats and data is. DBOBE stated this game isn't about spread sheets, but their design requires exactly that! Why is good or fun to be able to pin only one blueprint? Does FDev regard Engineers to be that much optional?

From my point of view it is unnecessarily complex, especially for new and causal players.
