General / Off-Topic Some numbers and a shortage

As I mentioned, in the middle of all the numbers are human beings and it all becomes more clear, when someone who was not just a number, but a "person" dies:

May he rest in peace among the stars.
This man had been questioned by the police for alerting the world to this new virus and accused of spreading false information.

Today he is a national hero for the people.

More than 630 dead and more than 31000 people infected.

They are tens of millions to be locked in their homes.

Yesterday I saw on TV, Shanghai is a deserted city.

With that cruise ship quarantined in japan we have independent (from Chinese officials) and reasonable statistics now, 3700 persons, 61 infected now in 4 days (min)

sad as it is we can watch confirmed numbers and see the real impact

Another little positivity spreader: The ratio between deaths and recovered seemed horrifying the first couple of weeks, with more deaths than recovered, but that seems to be changing towards the "better":

Well put. This story is heartbreaking and really puts a human face to the tragedy unfolding.

Back out to work yesterday. Moving s-l-o-w with pain.
Nobody at the centre is concerned about coronavirus, it's "foreign" and they don't pay attention.

Got sacks of dog food delivered yesterday.
Buying bales of toilet paper and soap today. Paying bills in advance for a couple months. Going to get some cash out next week. If you can afford to buy some things in bulk, better to do it before things get like Hong Kong.

The pangolin, a small mammal with scales in danger of extinction, could be the animal that transmitted the new coronavirus to the humans, Chinese scientists said on Friday February 7.

The scientists have determined that the genomes of virus sequences taken from pangolins are 99% identical to those found in patients with the new coronavirus.

Until the announcement of this latest discovery, the animal intermediate in the transmission of the coronavirus between the bat and humans was unknown to scientists.

The new virus first appeared in December in a market in Wuhan where many animals, including wild mammals, were sold for food.

The delicate flesh of pangolin is highly prized by Chinese and Vietnamese gourmets, as are its scales, bones and organs by traditional Asian medicine.

Hmmm.

Generally it is best to avoid information sources that are dubious.

Yeah well, very... VERY true!

Especially coming from alledged med. professionals who exhibit and spread preppers paranoia that is.

Irresponsible doesn't even begin to describe it. Over and out!

Wow, you have gone from save the environment to self preservation in an instant. Do you just react to the latest doomsday scenario of the hour?

You're doubting the seriousness of the coronavirus I take it? That must be a right comfy little hole you have your head buried in.

Nope, I don’t doubt the seriousness of people dying. I doubt the doomsday scenario
Then you lack a perspective on the big picture. I'm at a loss how anyone can look at the information emerging from China, even as sanitized as it is, and fail to see that this isn't just "gwarsh jasonbaron, it's just the flu, no big whoop!" situation. And when a career health care professional admits to some serious concern, maybe instead of mocking him you should get a clue.

Holy cow, listen to yourself. You have spent the last how many months mocking people in this forum that say there is a major environmental issue unfolding.
oops sorry I forget, they were saying America might have had something to do with that and the president of the USA doesn’t tell a lie and Denys there Is an environmental issue whereas this virus is all China’s fault

Well, go ahead and find a post of mine denying the reality of climate change and lay it on me here, I'll wait. In the meantime, instead of obfuscating feel free to stay on topic.

Also, you can take your sophomoric attempt at laying blame and stick it.
