Some performance tweaks/fixes

Yes the problems are mainly the reflections done by shaders in windows, ceiling windows, mission consoles, some panels (indoor and outdoor).
AMD CAS does not upscale anything, it just sharpens the image. You can use it with or without upscaling.

Ok excellent, thank you for the info!

For AMD CAS, I was under the impression that once turned on in the settings it will provide upscaling to the native resolution of the monitor, and that the slider is just the amount of sharpening being applied.

To add: a combination of DOWNSCALING (i.e. lowering your current Supersampling value by 1-2 steps) and enabling AMD FidelityFX CAS should/may/might give you an approximately equivalent image with increased FPS as the overhead reduction by lowering rendering resolution is much greater than the increased overhead for CAS.

Yes and you can also use CAS alone, just to sharpen your image a little.
I'm not sure it this has been activated by default. I've seen some streamers with very very sharpened games.

Let's say the reflections are of the biggest problems :) It's done by shaders in windows, ceiling windows, mission consoles, some panels (indoor and outdoor).
Fires are another problem entirely. I just found a fix for people who use "FX Quality" on Off or Low.

So you upscale as you want, and then use AMD CAS on top of that.

So how do I upscale? Is that the SS slider then?

SS slider is the easiest way. You can also select a lower resolution in the game, and use the gpu scaling option in your video card driver.

Also NVidia has its own sharpening option in its driver (i don't know about AMD)
I've put a link to Nvidia's website in the first post, for gpu scaling and sharpening instructions (using the Nvidia driver)

Makes sense. I really appreciate your explanation.

So as long as you have that option enabled (either via AMD CAS in game or via Nvidia control panel) it will upscale up to the native resolution of the display assuming you have the game set at a lower resolution. In my case I am stuck with SS since I use VR. I am also unsure if the upscaling upscales to my monitor's resolution or my VR headset resolution.

what resolution is equivalent to 0.85 of supersampling playing a 1440p? I want to test if there is fps difference and quality between nvidia upscaling and sharpening vs ss at 0.85 and AMD FideltyFx CAS.

Yes, it's activated by default now. I found it to be very noticeable. I'm on the fence on if I want to scale it back down. I do kind of like how much sharper the textures look with CAS.

and 0.75 is for 1080p (75% x 1440p)

and 0.75 is for 1080p (75% x 1440p)

What if you have a 1440p monitor but also a VR headset? Which of the two does it use to find it's target resolution?

EDIT: I just spoke to Nvidia support and am told it will upscale to the monitor's resolution, not the HMD. It stands to reason this would be the same for both AMD and Nvidia's upscaling/ sharpening options.

So if you are running a 4K monitor, it will upscale your HMD resolution to match that of the monitor rather than that of the HMD. Something to keep in mind when adjusting SS/ HMD.

This is honestly never a good take. The "go make your own x" excuse makes no logical sense. Why even have reviews in the first place?
You're right... I should have said "play another game" instead.

Seriously, there are reviews and then there are comments that are abusive and disrespectful. People think that just because they paid $40 they have the right to say whatever they want. The devs are people... and from what I've seen, working hard to fix things. It may not be perfect and some of the things I've noticed in Odyssey are questionable but that doesn't mean I'm going to hurl insults at them.
Society has lost it's ability to be patient. :(

Does anyone know if under "Windows Settings/Gaming/Game Mode" "On/Off" how this affects the Operating Systems FPS settings, or if it is limited to "Xbox Gaming" with X-Box specific games?

The Microsoft Website states this setting will:

Use Game Mode while gaming on your Windows 10 device

When you use Game Mode, Windows prioritizes your gaming experience. When you’re running a game, Game Mode:

  • Prevents Windows Update from performing driver installations and sending restart notifications.
  • Helps achieve a more stable frame rate depending on the specific game and system.
To turn Game Mode on or off:

  1. Press the Start button , and then select Settings.
  2. Choose Gaming > Game Mode.
  3. Turn Game Mode On or Off.
Does anyone have any information on what this setting does to the System to "achieve a more stable frame rate on a specific game and system"? Is the "Windows 10 OS's" control of FPS above any setting in the game or through the video card/software? This setting, which directly references the Windows Game mode System FPS, seems hidden for most folks, except those who use Windows X-Box Gaming Settings.

I noticed a significant jump overall (not awe inspiring) in FPS for Elite while this setting is OFF.

I turn it on and my FPS drops, turn it off, and FPS increases. In some areas, significantly.

You might have to tell it to use it for ED.

While you are in the game and have launched the Game bar > Settings, you need to tell Windows 10 that you want to use this game in Game Mode. Make sure you select and check “Use Game Mode for this game”.

Once you have finished the selection, you need to restart the game for the changes to take effect. And if you have the notification checked, you should receive a notification the next time when you enter the game telling you that the “Game Mode is on, This title is running Game Mode.”

I had no idea there was a game mode - i will try

I missed that. A few years ago, I did use the XBox Game bar and had Elite selected as a game to use for that mode. Now I understand why it increases FPS for Elite when I set it to off.

Thanks.

From Microsoft Site:
The bottom line is, Game Mode can be used for all gaming applications. For example, any graphic or CPU intensive apps that you feel the need to get an extra boost in performance, you can launch the Game bar and tell Windows 10 that the current application is a “game” and to enable Game Mode for the app.

Seems to lower FPS when a game is run under the Game Bar. Vague as to "get an extra boost in performance".

Seems not listing Elite in Game Bar, or turning it off will increase FPS.
