Probably a crazy idea, but has anyone actually tried to carefully scan the skybox for a similar sound to the UA? Am away from ED for a few weeks, but on my travels around the galaxy I have heard some pretty weird sounds while pointing the ship at various distant stars and Nebulae, they all have fairly unique sounds. Perhaps one of them is pointing to a source.

Am doubting ED would require us to slow down/speed up and dissect the noise from the UA. All clues are likely obtainable through the game itself without the need for external tools

How about this theory - its shaped very much like a scaled down model of a human spaceport, with sticky out arms behind and a docking "hub" at the front. It also has lots of things buzzing around it as our own spaceports do with all the police flying around them. it rots our own ships because its designed to take organic ships not metallic.

Could it be that their spaceports are grown?

I think you're probably right, although the next step may not be implemented until 1.3.

I'm a bit dubious about the hidden message thing now and think finding the artifact is pretty much the end of this chapter for now.

In hindsight I also have my doubts that FD would expect players to have to use third party products to help solve in-game riddles. The clues should be all kept in game imo.

I think this thing is about He Bo. The next phase will be what happens there.

Just in time for them to release a long range COMBAT EXPLORER the Diamondback.

You may be right about 3rd party but it was that way that I kind of figured out the Ancient Artifacts sounded like they contained clips of the Apollo Space program. You kinda have to enhance a bit your listening or the background noise from ambient and ship drowns out the nuances.

I'm sorry, but in my opinion we concentrate too much on the artefact and pay not enough attention to the circumstances we got it. If TheSpaceTexan is not involved in game development, the observation of the convoy was his only chance to have gotten his knowledge. Has anybody checked, which factions the ships in the convoy belonged to? To gain a clue where they came from?

Unfortunately I'm 6000 ly from sol hunting terraforming candidates, so I can't look for another convoy and check for myself.

Some thoughts.

if it degrades in space, it's unlikely to have travelled a vast distance.
Perhaps it is used to existing in witch space
the message is unlikely to change with a specific location.
Take voyger to a black hole or sag a. It wouldn't care
it doesn't have to be thargoids, could be a totally different species
Given we have had contact with thargoids in the past, it's feasible we'd know something about their technology

Ahem, has anyone tried to hook up a modem yet? Sounds a bit like the dial-up...

The video was great. I was immediately reminded of this star trek episode:
http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Tin_Man_(episode)

The creepy sound reminded me of this episode:
http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Schisms_(episode)

And of course:
http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/The_Chase_(episode)

One maybe should be visiting the star systems mentioned in those episodes.

Adding science back in, we actually may be listening to the "heart beat" emitted by a pulsar, a black hole, or some binary system.

just for fun.. Im going to get toxic waste and jettison it next to the UA... if someone can do it before me.. let me know the outcome. I'm interested to see if there is a chemical reaction between the two fumes. I hope a portal opens up, and I can assist Scott Bakula on many adventures in Quantum Leap!

As I said earlier, the only similarities between all the artifacts we found was they were all in Fed convoys in Fed systems.

I've been reading this thread since it started, and I'm torn on 2 schools of though.

I feel TheSpaceTexan has already figured it out shortly before everyone else. He knew about the convoy. He knew to listen to it. He told us to not over think it. Now, he's on his way to Sag A*. I have a feeling that he figured it out when DB (or Michael, I forgot who) asked if we listened to it a few days ago. I don't think he received any outside help either, he's just a step ahead of everyone.

OR given that there's no other in game models, planets, etc. that hasn't been seen before, this is all there is. It's not like this is going to trigger a remote download that installs the files necessary on your PC. Although, it could be a small download from the server for a new planet type... Something similar?

I'm an optimist though, so I hope that it's actually true and there is more to find here. On a previous post, I thought TheSpaceTexan implied that someone was correct when they said it was a course from Sag A*

Either way, this thread is so damn interesting...

This was another thought I had. Wasn't the convoy trying to do something? They said "let's not mess this up" or something to that affect. But I also know someone followed them and the Type 7 just jumped out of system... What was the convoy trying to do?

also the thing looks biomechanical , insect like and the grey bit looks like a skull , the blue bits like a hive. but its tech based. the blue bits could be a dish of sorts , maybe the canisters hold somthing... maybe... what happened to HE-BO

To add to this, the convoy I saw was fully affiliated with the actual minor faction (aligned to the Federation) belonging to the system I was in (the same system a Wishblend, 109 Virginis). I don't know if the others that have been seen belong to the exact same faction.

Damn, guys, this is sucking up my evening. The wife doesn't seem to like you guys (you don't think I'm taking the blame for this myself, do you?). 4 recordings done so far...

Oh no, what happens if you used a mining laser on it? Or a frame shift wake scanner, if it came from outer space?
Edit: What, if it changed sounds the closer you get it back to home? Someone mentioned a homing beacon already...

I've just been off checking g so might have missed this in the last few minutes...

Red wizzard found his in Timocani while the other ones were found by wishblend in 109 Virginis.

That's ~180LY from each other. How is that a region? Or is it a route?
