Sothis and Ceos Advice

As Woodbane just said this how all threads should be informative and cordial.
As soon as I deliver these meta alloys to the engineer I may head out there.

Advice please.
Now don't laugh, remember that we all have star somewhere but....I am in an A rated Cobra 3, I have 6mil and have a bog standard Asp exp in the hangar which I'm trying to earn enough to pimp.(Btw I using the Asp when the deadly npcs destroyed me in the blink of an eye). I should take the Asp exp right? As I said I only have 6mil.
What do you guys advise?

So I might be able to offer some helpful advice here, might seem obvious to the experience runners but I completed my first run yesterday with 37Mill payout at the end of it and this is what I would recommend to anyone starting out on these runs.

So far everyone has focused on the large stations and going point to point but I included the small port which is 5000LS away from the main star so my route would consist of the following:- CEOS (NEW DAWN STATION) > SOTHIS (NEWHOLM STATION) > SOTHIS (SOTHIS MINING PORT) then repeat...

The reason being is that to start with your faction is going to be very low and naturally the mission payouts will be okay but not high end like some of these pro's are running, so you will naturally have to spend more time mode switching and refreshing the board for missions. This port offers excellent delivery missions of mining materials back to both these main stations, sometimes low quantities of 30T with a 1 million payout, these little mission will seriously bolster your cash pot and build up your rankings.
To give you an example I made made between 6-8 Million in about 2 hours just jumping between these stations which (no offence intended) at your level is a lot of money and will go along way with your ship upgrades, remember that this is a huge benefit to being in a smaller ship that can land at ports.

My only reservation about you using the ASP EX is you do not have enough funds to maximise the jump capability and the fuel scoop which can be very expensive.
I would personally recommend you sell your ASP for starters and go by a TYPE - 6, I have built you what I think is a viable little ship for this, it will achieve 100T cargo capacity, have an impressive boost to out run anything that attacks you (you must run....) and it will cost you a total of 3Million.
It might seem like a lot but that little ship has got just over 30LY range empty and a quality 20LY once it's fully loaded, lots of the pro's on here use those little runners. I have linked you the link below...
So lets have a look at the ship build for you here:-
https://coriolis.io/outfit/type_6_t...ds8f4--0007070404030343012r.Iw1-kA==.Aw1-kA==

To start with your main focus will be to work between the three stations and build up faction rating and credits.
As you are doing this there will be long haul missions pop up over 400LY away, the trick here is not to get over excited and accept the first one you see and find a balance between how much time you want to spend looking for the "perfect" missions and just hauling because there is a point if you spend too much time at the station your not doing the long run.

Look at the total value payout from the mission like this, haul 80T of cargo 400 LY's for 4,567,876Cedits this works out your earning 57,000Credits / tonnes profit
Then another mission might say okay 50 T of cargo for 3,678,985 and your now earning 73,570Credits / tonnes. Find a balance that your looking for but I used the advice from the other guys on this forum and you should be aiming for around 15 - 30 Millions for about 100T of cargo capacity!!
Try not to look at this like a one stop grind, take your time when looking through the stations, you are earning lots of cash, whilst building up your federation ranking and also improving your Trading rank whilst earning good engineering mats ... I hope this was of some help to you and don't forget to post and let us know how you get on!!

Have to agree, this thread has been filled not only with good advice but convivial and cordial CMDR's.

I've already made about 8mill just between CEOS and SOTHIS alone and haven't even started hauling goods back to the bubble yet!!

OP: I'm relatively new (only a few months in - playing via PC) and am using a Type 7. I know it's not ideal but couldn't afford a Python or Conda (obv) and wanted something with loads of cargo (more than the AspX cause im greedy :D ) so i kitted it out with the best of everything (in li yong rui territory so it was cheaper), added an Adv DS and even a little extra fuel. Getting almost 25LY max jump and about 16ish i thnk loaded. Seems to be doing the business so far. :)

^^THIS is some truly helpful and excellent advice from DRAKUS21 for the less initiated. Follow this advice as well as other advice in this thread and you'll be a profitable trader/hauler/smuggler in no time.

If there's one piece of wisdom I'd echo it's this: earning massive amounts of credits is fun and can be satisfying, but there's so much more to this game that can be just as satisfying. Don't lose sight of the fun you can have purely in pursuit of the CR.

Have fun out there, maybe I'll see some of you out and about around Sothis/Ceos in the near future.

Yes, take your ASP. It's not super perfect due to loadout restrictions (I have 84 tons) but you can make real good money there. A-reated FSD, no weapons needed, no other sneaky stuff like flares or whatever, only max cargo and be fast, like have a good power plant.

I'm running missions since yesterday and did like 50 mio. in 2 or 3 sessions. This morning was awesome. Had 1 mission Sothis and back to Ceos for 7.6 mio. creds popping up again and again.

Just for giggles I'm posting this vid of me taking on a FAS in my Mk. IV Viper earlier. This is really so I can see if I know how to do it rather than anything particularly related to the thread but thought the audience here may also be more appreciative.

NOTE - how I did not land the killing blow, in fact I was running away with 5% hull left but still got the bounty! [big grin]

Anyway - let's see if this works:

EDiT - nope. OK gurus, how do I embed a video from either OneDrive or xboxdvr.com (or is it just not possible?

Wooooohooooooooo, FOLKS!

Just got an ANACONDA! From the fine money I made with the nice runs in my ASP. Got 15% off so 124 mio. credits is great!

Congratulations mate!

Thanks!

ALMOST lost my ship while trying to leave station for the 1st time. Couldn't bring it through the slot. JESUS! I almost got killed by the station. It's super hard to manouver this huge ship.
How do you smuggle in ILLICIT Cargo with the Anaconda? You never can make it without getting scanned.

and my jumprage is 2 LY less than in my ASP

Okay so a little break down on my own experience doing this in my Annie.

Firstly you want to get the right setup, A rate your FSD D rate everything else than downgrade your power plant and power distributor to the lowest you can possibly go, I think I am running a 3A power plant and similar size power distributor. The reduced weight will increase your jump range significantly, if you get stuck with this let me know and i'll send you a link to my build but it is pretty straight forward.

Smuggling... so firstly go buy a docking computer and 2 x Heat sink launchers.

Jump to the system stay outside of 10.0km distance from the station, line yourself up with the letterbox.
Approach, hit silent running mode and pop your HSL, do not worry about boosting as you will have no shields, keep popping the HSL to keep your temperature down (not forgetting permission to land) as soon as you get into the station and though the letter box power down and let the docking station land you...

The more you do it and fly the ship the more confident you will get at approaching at higher speeds, it's just a case of getting used to the ship as some of these seasoned smugglers make it look easy and sadly it's just going to take you a bit of practise!!

Good luck!!

Took your advice tonight instead of what I've been doing and, while it took much longer in the end, I definitely made more money. 10 missions, 148t Clipper and made about 27Mcr.

Even more, since taking these Sothis/Ceos missions, I went from 6% Broker to 89% Broker in about 4-5 runs. That is absolutely crazy.

So how exactly do ya do a sothis/ceos run? just run missions there or commodity trading?

I don't have tons of cash, would a type-6 be ok to start off until I get something bigger? maybe a type-7?

I do it with Bessy, my T6.
T7 is a bit of a deathtrap. Its too slow.

Thanks for the info. I know how smuggling works but in the ASP which I was using so far for CEOS/SOTHIS, I just simply flew in. No big deal. But the Conda is really big. Yes, might have to get used to it. And I think the silent running and heat sinks might be absolutely necessary here as the ship is too slow / low manouverability.

What's your current jump range? I have 28 LY round about. That's not much. But I got an 5A or something like that Power Plant. I'm not sure about going further down with the power distributor. Might be necessary to get keep the shields up etc.

I think using my ASP for doing Sothis/Ceos runs is more efficient. I could do 40 mio. credits runs with only 84 tons cargo space. Now with 304 tons, I only get cargo run missions with huuuuge tonnage, like 180 tons for 10 mio. credits or 60 tons for 7 mio. credits. And the smuggeling limitations also have to be taken into consideration. I might switch back to my ASP for CEOS runs.

I got a permanent stream of 1 mission yesterday from Sothis to Ceos for 7.6 mio credits. Again and again and again. That was awesome. Until a CMDR interdicted me and tried to kill me.

I did my first Sothis/Ceos run last night, in my Type-6.

I used the "highway" mentioned in the Ship discussion for Sothis supply runs thread so as to avoid the need to scoop (although I still had a 2A Fuel Scoop just in case).

I did data missions between Sothis and Ceos until the big payout Biowaste deliveries appeared, and then stacked up a few of those totalling around 9 million Credits.

Only got interdicted a couple of times, when going to refuel on the highway, but just dropped chaff and flares, then boosted away and went back into SC.

The tips in this thread and others have been very handy :)

9 Mio. is not much. You get 9 mio. with 1 mission only, if you're lucky.

UPDATE: Just got used to the Conda. As the Cockpit is on top, you have to fly into the mail slot keeping the top of the ship aligned with the top of the slot. There's a lot of sack hanging down on the Conda.

UPDATE 2: Fly the Conda now into the sations as if it is a ASP with perfect Thursters. Easy P P P P Peasy! ... great! Gonna do smuggeling missions now as many as I can get.

9 million from 3 missions was a lot for *me*, given that it was my first run and I was only using a little T6. Heading back now, and hoping for bigger payouts soon...

haha that's not cool! Comes across like your putting down his achievement /slap.

Lets not forget that everyone started in a sidewinder and any sense of accomplishment in this game is relative to the player regardless of results. I remember how pleased I was for the first time landing my sidewinder at an outpost, given the serious lack of instructions for this game it is literally like learning how to write poetry blind folded with a quill and ink pot.

Well.. that's what it felt like to start with anyway...haha

Sooooo well done for mastering the anaconda's over sized rear in in the flying and big congratz to your first 9 million haul!!

So I made a Sothis run today, first time in over a year. I bought a T6 and set it up with 88 Tons of cargo and a 4A scoop. Great ship the T6, I have another one set up for mining, so easy to pilot. From start to finish, I totaled 18.5 Mil Crs. I ran long distance poop trips, and picked up missions to deliver goods back to Sothis for the return trip.

If you're looking for some action, grab the Slave missions. You'll get all the fun you're looking for. If you'd rather not get interdicted, forget the slave runs. Also, be careful of the "sensitive data" runs. They'll attract NPC pirates. I lost some REP, and had to gain it back by taking data runs.

Great fun. The devs have made this part of the game mechanics. A way for us to make big money, and have a good challenge doing it. I doubt it's in jeopardy of going away, but it may change in the future to keep from getting boring. I'll spend some time making a few more runs, then on to something else for fun.

Fly safe commanders, 07.

Not a single sausage of a mission at Ceos or Sothis this evening. I've done plenty runs here and do all the shuttling missions between the systems to keep up rep, but it seems it is no longer in "boom time".

Anyone else, or is it just me?

I have picked up a few just a minute ago, they're not "amazing" ones but I've managed to fill my cargo holds none the less, something does seem a bit different tho, I started another post too because one of the mission givers at CEOS has disappeared for me, there was 3 before and now there is 2. Bit unusual lol
