Space is a vacuum

Elite Dangerous is a shallow world at the moment . The people that say they still enjoy the game after learning and doing all the combinations ( Trade , Combat , mining , Powerplay ) are just role playing , using there Imaginations to fill the void in the game world . Frontier developments has been working on Horizons the last year. I think the empty void of a billion stars, needs a bit of filling first. The outside debug camera is a joke ! The system maps are crap , but these things are down the list of priorities (More Money First)
The expectations of games now are a lot higher than 30 years ago and I think a lot of Elite lovers are old *cough* timers. Elite is up against some stiff competition in the gaming market and make you own game up , is not going to wash it . Space is truly a vacuum in elite dangerous case.
I am 22 and I think elite : dangerous is the best
most modern games are just pure poop.
elite is a huge massive amazing game.
the only modern games I think are as good as elite are : Arma , MassEffect , Elder scrolls , Unreal.

its not because you dont like it that the game is bad. the game has tones of content , and more to come.
today SC and NMS get all the attention but a few months after launch they will see that elite is master , if not elite its SC it will not be NMS.

before elite the best game for me was X²

Modern games often provide more content than a player can do with one chr. or iteration. That is to say in most games you choose which accomplishments you wish to tackle with your chr. and then maybe do some different ones with a second or third chr. In ED you can do it all with your first chr on the first day of play.

Which is usually done by arbitrarily blocking content. "A-ha! You pressed the left mouse button during the QTE so you're gonna get Item A. If you want Item B, you need to play all over again and press the right-mouse button!", or "But no, you are an archer. If you want to use a mace you have to start over again!". Only very few games provide actually meaningfull multiple playthroughs, and some games that dont (like Fallout and ES series), dont seem to be harmed much by it.

I can think of a lot, Skyrim, ESO, STO, GW2, Aion, Rift, even a lot of very old games have a lot more to do that ED, like AC, DAOC, etc.

I think a lot of the trouble with ED is that there is nothing you can do in the game that you can't do in the first starter areas of the galaxy. There is no real incentive to go farther out into the vastness of space because what is there is just more of the same. There should be items and resources you can gather farther out that are more valuable or are needed to craft more rare items and better ships. Even just different types of ships being available in different areas would be nice, ie. go out to a certain distant system to get a new ship type that is only available there. But they need a lot more ship models and a robust crafting system and ship customization and design to make it more interesting. And the game should have been released with ground missions and the ability to have on-foot ground combat and exploration.

Ok well I can't argue with that list, there are a lot if rpgs and a lot of them have more things to do, but thats certainly not the standard for modern games as a whole and Elite is still in development. It has a very good foundation, the largest map of any game, and no actual competition in the realm of space games.

Wut? I don't think so. Been playing for a year and still finding new stuff to do.
Please give us examples of the new things you keep finding to do, maybe share the last 10 new things to do you have found that are not simply repeating old gameplay elements over and over. All I have found is Trading, Combat, Pirating, Exploration and missions.

Totally this! Games with complete in-engine freedom sadly seem to have disappeared over the years. Deus Ex, Baldur's Gate, Thief etc - now we are swamped by Leaving Combat Arena QTE pay-for-jewel things :(

Is this going to be the gist of your arguments from now on? Whenever anyone contradicts you, throw up the "old timers" remark?

If that's so then maybe you just lack imagination...maybe that's why you don't like Elite.

Do you just want to be spoon fed entertainment and trophies?
Lack imagination... right. "When I was a lad we only had a stick to play with and we loved it, the stick could be a sword or a paddle for a boat or a spoon to stir a cauldron or a rifle or a spear or ...."
If that's what you want, why buy a game at all, sit in a closet and imagine exploring the galaxy.

All I have found to do in life is breathe, move, eat, sleep, normal bodily functions, think, interact with other people, manipulate my environment, enjoy and don't like.

That's because life is a vacuum, you have to roleplay it and find your own purpose. Life sucks, I won't pay 40$ for it for sure!

You can simplify anything like that. The only thing Skyrim has that elite doesn't then is crafting, which Elite is getting.

So

Skyrim = trading, exploring, combat, crafting, quests

Elite = trading, Exploration, combat, mining, piracy, and missions.

Sounds like Skyrim is a very shallow game.

What a refreshing novel topic.
This is the first time I have seen anybody mention this.
I think FD will be very surprised as they never heard this before.

As nobody ever touched this subject it is obvious that nobody replied ever before that this is a game in development with a 10 year development plan.

I am also sure that nobody ever posted before that... Braben himself compared the game to a house of which first the foundation would be constructed and the rooms and details would get filled in during further development.

Of course nobody ever told anyone that FD, compared to the giants like UBI, EA and Rockstar, is just a small dev who cannot create everything at once and simply needs time to build this monumental project.

And nobody will ever point out that in a few years time this game will be unrecognizable concerning its richness of content.

I wish somebody would have said these things in other threads.

Life is much too expensive. I want a refund.

Was literally my planned response...its how one engages the systemic integration of features that reflects enjoyment.

Skyrim has mining too. But its a grind, Skyrim sucks! I wish i did not spent thousands of wonderful hours enjoying it plus all its DLCs.

I have taught, learned, raised kids, played games prepared gourmet meals, built computers, photographed, recorded music, played instruments, done experiments, walked on beaches and in deserts, climbed mountains, parasailed, designed and built kites and flown them, gone boating, raced rode bicycles, swam, ran, well the list can go on forever and each experience is different, do you see the difference yet or am I wasting time trying to enlighten the unwilling to learn?
