Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Why are we so sure the console release takes down DLCs for summer and fall? We’ve seen before that there can sometimes be a gap in between console announce and release. For JWE with the switch, it was a 3 month gap (Aug - Nov), PC console port was from like June to November. If we do get a console announcement this spring, I wouldn’t be surprised if we got at least one more pack in between announce and release, assuming it releases in November.
This pack between announce and release will be spring one. Console version is being released within 133 days according to report so in spring.

The console version is going to be released before June 1st as per the reports as they say release in fY24 so by the end of May.

They've said the pc port will be announced in the next few weeks so definitely in the next 3 weeks we will get an announcement.

I just find it a bit odd if the DLC comes in March they are basically saying 'by the way we have a console release in April/May but before that we will release a PC only DLC, then console will come as the base game'

Unless they release the console version in March and start off with the next DLC as the first multiplatform DLC in April and take it from there

So here some of my thoughts about the report by Frontier and on the next dlc. First it's really looking likely like Frontier is going to add Planet Zoo to consoles. So finally we will stop seeing questions on Planet Zoo social medias and Livestreams "When PZ will be added to consoles" lol. As much as it looking likely that Frontier is about to wrap up PZ support I still have hope that is not gonna be the case. I mean first PZ and JWE2 those are basically the main games that till this day are so profitable, and to finish support to one of them is feeling like such a not smart thing to do, mainly when frontier is not doing so well. Ofc, who knows it can be that the upcoming new creative game gonna be INSANE and gonna be very profitable, but even if that is the case you shouldn't end the support a least till the game is not lauching. I'm sure PZ will do amazing on consoles when it comes to profits (tho, I will never understand why people's wants to play a building game on console but whatever) and also there is no confirmation that PZ wouldn't get anymore paid dlcs after financial 2024. Because I have seen people's online and on YouTube saying that, Why PZ and JWE2 are not in the FY25, but if u read the title u clearly can see that they are saying "FY25 NEW GAME RELEASES" and that's NOT talking about new content for one of the existing games. ofc as much as it looking likely like really PZ is about to finish its support I guess it's just hard for me & u to see our fav game dying lol I mean this is what keep us up at night, right? I mean when I knew we going to get porcupine I couldn't fell asleep lol.

So now let's talk about much happier topic and those that a least we have comfirmation that a least one more dlc will be for PZ! And I think I already have a date in mine of when it's gonna be launch, 26th of March. 5 days before easter. Tuesday (tho with eurasia Animal Pack, they launched it on wednesday. but I think it's just that they will have enough time to reveal all the animals) Now the question is so much more challenging, If it's gonna be the last pack what it gonna be! I mean if it has nothing to do with South America I will actually burst into tears. Birds...... yea I'm not putting on that money.... Fully Aquatic Animals: 😶.... A least one Hoofstock. yeah on that I'm putting money. is it gonna be a Bigger Pack? Animal Pack? Scenery Pack? well I have no dang clue. I actually have no idea what dlc can it be if it's the last one, maybe Worldwide, Maybe Planet Zoo Pack (lol it would be iconic, mainly if it's just Hoofstock and Cats Pack because then it's just typical PZ pack) But if the dlc (let's pretend it has no chance to be the last one) will it be something like Latin America Animal Pack or maybe even just America Animal Pack, and if yes out of all these exhibits animal which one u think has the most likely chance to be in pack like those ones:

No because like I basically want all those 3 SO badly in a way I can't explain I guess the macaw very sadly has such a tiny chance...

(Sorry for digging and eating your brain)

Maybe after all this time the next game is Planet Aquarium, so we have a full fledged game for that instead of an expansion for PZ. No one would see that coming.
I want to see that coming, though I understand that other people don't, and I have a good idea as to why. Just that personally, I'd be 100% fine with Planet Aquarium being a completely separate game.

Just gonna throw an idea for the final pack out there, tried to be as realistic as possible:

Fan-Favorites Animal Pack:
1. Secretary Bird (#1 on meta-wishlist) - Flamingo rig maybe??
2. Hamadryas Baboon (#7) - Mandrill rig
3. Grey-Crowned Crane (#11) - Flamingo/Crane rig
4. Black Howler Monkey (#5) - Capuchin rig maybe??
5. Coatimundi (#2) - Probably brand new rig
6. Spectacled Bear (#14) - Bear rig
7. Walrus (#3) - Sea Lion rig maybe??
8. Mallard (#159) - Swan rig
9. Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo (#4) - Brand new rig
10. King Cobra (or Two-Toed Sloth, but with +2 habitat animals I wouldn't expect a new WTE species)

Three birds, two primates, three SA species, a few obligatory clones, a few unique models, no African hoofstock, almost all within the top 15 of the meta-wishlist (Mallard's the oddball, but I feel like since the Swan's release the support for another waterfowl has gone up). Might have a few too many animals that would probably require new models. Also lacks any Asian habitat animals, but since we just got Eurasia I didn't see it as very necessary.
I'd personally be very satisfied with the final roster if this ended up being our last DLC. I'd honestly be disappointed if our last pack was region or biome-focused, I feel it'd be better to cover as many bases as possible with so few slots.

I just find it a bit odd if the DLC comes in March they are basically saying 'by the way we have a console release in April/May but before that we will release a PC only DLC, then console will come as the base game'

Hard to say how they'll handle DLC. If I recall, PlanCo console got them in chronological order. Which would mean they'd be dropping the Arctic pack in the summer which is a little odd but... Didn't stop them from dropping the Spooky and Adventure DLCs for PlanCo console in December ~1 month after console was released. Haha. So that may be exactly what they do.

If they do a more general pack, though, it might actually make some sense to release that instead and save Arctic for a timeframe closer to winter, maybe?

Now I'm wondering if the poor console players will get the game with that big ol' walk-through exhibit and not be able to use it for like, 6 months after buying the game... Or would they just remove that from the port? No idea how that all works. Hah.

If this is the end. Then I all just call this pack Zoo Tycoon (they have the trade mark anyway). Then give us 20 animals, some buildings and charge $25 bucks. Amen

I mean first PZ and JWE2 those are basically the main games that till this day are so profitable, and to finish support to one of them is feeling like such a not smart thing to do, mainly when frontier is not doing so well.
For us as the PC players of PZ, the stop of PDLC would indeed be finishing support; but that's not what it is for Frontier. You can hardly call it finishing support if they're tapping into a new market. If Frontier decides to stop PDLC and only do the console port (it seems quite likely but as usual it's not confirmed) from now on, then it will most certainly be because it's the smart financial thing to do.

They very often talk about projected sales and profits in their financial reports, so it only makes sense that Frontier probably had their internal financial teams make projections of the possible profits with PDLC and the possible profits with console release. If the latter has more secure profit margins, then it would be a smart thing to shift focus to a less cost-intensive form of continued support.

With their current dev restructurings already including one of the animators of PZ being laid off so far (as far as we know of course, not all of them have social media and not all of them announce it), I'd say that the chances of Frontier picking the console port over PDLC as a form of continued support is the more likely one.

A lot earlier there was speculation about them going to 200 animals in total, also because the limit of animals was at 200 for the longest time. There's 180 animals in the game right now, do we think they are still gonna go to 200?

If we got a final pack left that could be a 19/20 animal pack (maybe saving one for 5th anniversary).
Or we do still have two packs left, with one scenery pack (5 animals) and then one final pack with 14/15 animals, which seems more reasonable.

For the bigger pack I can also see them doing something like the butterflies. If they somehow go for macaws or hummingsbirds, they just pick 5 species for that and have 5 animals out of the way. The amount of animals left in central/south america also makes me feel it would be better to still have two packs with the scenery one being something like central america pack to not have a lopsided final pack with way more American animals.

also because the limit of animals was at 200 for the longest time
The limit was never 200 animals, but was 256. That's because a lot of stuff in (game) dev is usually a power of two, like for instance the dimensions of the texture files (often being 256 by 256, 512 by 512 or 1024 by 1024 or variations such as 256 by 512) used for the animals or things like the heightmap required to be 1024 by 1024.

I wouldn't read too much into the animal limit as an indication of the animals left, they probably started with 256 just to be on the safe side of things.

What excites us players the most?
The new content obviously or even the possibility of it.

Without the new content and only with the new platform the game for us PC players may as well be dead. Also for the new console players the new content seems to be a logical cause of the long lasting potential involvement.

If after PZ on console release they would decide to drop off the PDLC which would cost them 30% of the whole game income (according to the financial reports) it would be the most unlogical decision I have ever seen in my life.
