Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

With all due respect, I couldn't disagree more. It's like saying that all we wanted that got in doesn't matter at that point. Do we not want to enjoy all of the things we got instead of focusing on the things we didn't get?
Not sure if I understand you right but what I meant was that the game without new content would not be as exciting anymore.
Most of us support the game for so long because of the new content. Without it the game would get kind of boring after some time.

What excites us players the most?
Maybe just me but the most exciting thing is finally completing a zoo after months or years worth of work. Getting a new dlc is nice but often new dlc are just one drop in a huge pile of animals already ingame. I can see content creators and people who only build "dlc zoos" value new content more than existing content but that mindset values the content we could have not the content we already have. Likely those same people will jump ship at the very sight of support ending.
Without the new content and only with the new platform the game for us PC players may as well be dead.
Planet zoo is a creative sandbox builder at its heart, the content already given to us plus the huge choice of mods to choose from allows years and years of never ending playability. Just because support ends doesn't mean you have to quit the game, nothing is telling anyone that. I'm sure there are still people who still play the original zoo tycoon games years after support ended.
Planet Farm would be worse.
Planet farm would be so cool! Fluffy animals and fieldwork to do all under the planet series building.

That is exciting but without some of the animals i'm still waiting for this will never be possible for me since they are part of my most important zoo project and i already have lay out theirs enclosures in the plans.

For some i have good mods avaible, for others either no mods exist or they are no of the quality i would like, so unless they come in the last DLC (or an improved mod of them is made) i can't complete my zoo.

Okay, that I can understand. And I realize that the interest of some players will decrease, totally understandable. I definitely read it as more of what I said in my previous post, appreciate your POV on this point.

I've been out of the loop for a while, is there a reason why every youtuber is saying the next pack will be the last pack?
Apparently people are 99% sure that PZ is coming to console yet and it would be too hard for dev to create new content and develop the 16 existing DLCs for a new platform at the same time. That + the fact that Frontier didn't give any clues regarding new DLC in the financial year 2025 that will start in June.

We're doomed.

I'm not gonna have my walrus, I'm gonna cry in the first place and after that I'm gonna riot.

If I look it from my point of view as a former ZT2 player who got into the game way after support had ended, I can be excited about the future knowing I have years of Planet Zoo ahead of me, even without mods - although I know, and can look forward to, what they add to a game.

However as a current Planet Zoo player, launch of a console version with only one more DLC (as is my current assumption) for us definitely does mean end of support and end of an era.

I do feel a real sense of sorrow around that. The anticipation of regular new content has been a great comfort over the last years and I think it is natural that this won’t be an easy time for many of us.

Yeah, I'm looking at 6 long standing highly requested/talked about animals and thinking it's possible we might get 2 of them if there's one pack left, and maybe 3 or at most 4 if there's too packs:

Coatimundi
Secretary Bird
Baboon (primarily Hamadryas)
Musk Ox
Walrus
Tree Kangaroo

These six animals (or types of animals) have had decent backing and votes since the original Meta List. They're brought up very often in conversations over the years. They are not "new trend" animal choices that have had sudden surges in popularity. While I think that the more animals we get, the more likely the higher voted animals are aren't really all that significantly popular anymore, but I do think these 6 have had enough support they're somewhat excluded from that point of view.

And yet...again I think we'll only see around half of these at this point, if there's just 1 or 2 DLC left. If there's 4 DLC left I think there's a good chance we could get them all, but I don't think there's that great of a chance we'll get 4 more DLC.

Coatimundi seems the most likely to me simply by being a Latin American animal, and I feel like there's a good chance we will get some kind of Latin America focus, or a finale pack that includes a number of Latin America animals.

For some reason I personally feel like the Walrus is the least likely of these to show but I don't have any evidence or real theory as to why, just a feeling I have about it.

The rest I think it's a 50/50 chance individually. They all have strong points and points against them.
Secretary Bird is very popular and now #1 on the list, but it's a habitat bird that would require a bit of design.
Baboon is very popular as well and a well known African monkey, but we've seen Planet Zoo be fairly sparse on their monkeys (we've gotten 2 I think out of all of the DLC - not including the Gibbons since they're apes)
Tree Kangaroo has been popular for a long while, but would require a good bit of design.
Musk Ox is popular and wouldn't be the hardest of these to make but I wonder if we're done with cold weather animals after Eurasia.

What excites us players the most?
The new content obviously or even the possibility of it.

Without the new content and only with the new platform the game for us PC players may as well be dead. Also for the new console players the new content seems to be a logical cause of the long lasting potential involvement.

If after PZ on console release they would decide to drop off the PDLC which would cost them 30% of the whole game income (according to the financial reports) it would be the most unlogical decision I have ever seen in my life.

Im actually between these optinions.
Ofcourse not getting any more DLCs wont leave Planet Zoo in the shape of a desolate wasteland without any players overnight.
But without the promise of a new Pack full of fresh and exciting stuff every couple month the playerbase will defintely shrink, not instantly, but slowly and surely.
After all new stuff is what keeps games alive, just look at the games which are around for a long time like WoW, League of Legends, Minecraft and so on. Those games would have shriveld and died years and years ago if not for being constantly updated and added to

If we're about to have the final DLC and based on what people say about it being a big DLC, wouldn't it be possible to imagine all or at least most of these species in it? I mean if the final DLC contains 15-20 species, they definitely don't need to be related. The DLC doesn' need a particular theme.
For me it would be a great option if Frontier chooses to put species that were in the Zoo Tycoon games (like the walrus) or the last species at the top of the meta-whishlist. It would be the occasion to put at least 5 species from SA and complete the rest with highly requested species.

If it ends like this, then I would be in peace and feel very grateful towards dev (well, I already am but you know what I mean). I could live without flying birds (sadly).

I think we could get a 19.99 pack of 20 animals. We might actually see quite a number of the popular meta-wishlist animals on it. I don’t know, with all the good reception over the swan, and how the community has been vocal about it, I have high hopes we will get more than one bird for this last dlc! My personal hope is we finish the game with 15-20 bird species. I think it’s likely, I mean here we have a number of “easy” animals for the final pack:

  1. American flamingo/ Chilean flamingo
  2. Golden pheasant/ Reeves pheasant/ Western Capercaillie/ Wild Turkey/ helmeted guineafowl
  3. Rockhopper penguin/ or gentoo
  4. Whooping/ Sandhill/ Wattled/ Demoiselle/ Crowned crane or Roseatte Spoonbill
  5. Rhea of any species, shoot why not a tinamou for another South American bird
  6. Literally any goose, swan, pelican, or duck
The secretary bird would be the only one among them that might be more difficult, of course I would be happy to get more unique birds like the burrowing owl or scarlet ibis. If anything I would like North America and South America to finally get a native bird species (king penguin doesn’t count!)

I love your point of view and share it.
Of course it's easier for me to say then for someone who wanted flying birds, but seriously, we have a zoo game with so much variety and so many features. The possibility for new zoos to build are nearly limitless for creative players.
It's like christmas. Gift unwrapping is fun, but really enjoying all the wonderful things we got is at some point the more fullfilling thing.

I've shared much of the same general sentiment you've posted lately too. As a person who definitely wanted and will "miss," for lack of a better word, the lack of flying birds, I've moved past that, have come to terms that it's not happening. So looking past that, I'm extremely happy with the roster. Sure, New World Monkeys are the weakest point for the mammal roster, IMO, and I feel we could definitely use some more habitat birds, but otherwise I'm good and think it's a roster that I can truly enjoy for years.

I still remember your analogy about painting a picture but not knowing what full palette of colors you have to being similar to building a zoo but not knowing the full extent of the final roster. Once we know official supports ends, we have that palette. Every franchise zoo we build in, we'[ll know exactly what animals we have a choice of. If we're truly not happy with those animals there will be sandbox and mods for many more.

Getting to the end of support doesn't have to mean interest in the game ends. It's merely the next stage of the game's life cycle. If/until PZ2 comes, I intend to enjoy the game to the fullest.
