Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

It feels illegal not to talk about bunnies on easter when we don't have them. What bunny do you guys want?

While a wild rabbit would be cool, I think if we were gonna get one it would be fitting to have it be a domestic. Up there with the goat as one of the needed domestics.

Seems like they’ve wrapped up the beginners guide series for console players on their socials, hopefully that's one step closer towards PC players existence and the next dlc.
Ooh, good catch here! I still wonder if we might be in for another week of console focus to share images of user creations, workshop additions, etc.

I think the earliest we see anything is a teaser and announcement mid-week (Wednesday/Thursday, maybe?) with reveals and update features rolled out via socials per usual... And a Frontier Unlocked feature probably with a special reveal and maybe some gameplay (likely on Wednesday, 4/24 if they follow the last Wednesday of the month pattern). With a release on 4/30.

That's the earliest. And man, I want to be wrong! I just think there's no way they don't link it up to the Frontier Unlocked in some way. And having that prior the DLC release will be pretty clutch this time around.

Yeah probably, but then they can at least get back to screenshot Saturday's and workshop Wednesday’s like normal which is a step in the right direction.

Maybe this is just me and idk why but I feel like it would be kinda weird to have the earth day celebration post in between that gap of reveals, kinda offsets it in my mind, idk.

Earth day is on a Monday (22nd), the last 3 DLCs have all been announced on Tuesdays, and the last 2 also have had a 1 week gap between announce and launch. So if they follow this trend of building up the hype over just a week, I could see them maybe doing an announcement on the 23rd and launching on the 30th- maybe? Cause then the unlocked stream is a day after announcement which could go over everything in it right away to get peoples attention faster like “Look what just dropped yesterday for Planet Zoo!” It makes more sense to me to put the announcement and livestream closer together.

We could get an update teaser on the Friday beforehand (19th) similar to Eurasia and the gift shops.

So for now that’s my locked in prediction of when we’ll get the pack. Announcement on the 23rd, launch on the 30th.

I wasn't necessarily saying that's when I thought it would be so much as that's the earliest that it could be.

But yeah... Your timing and pattern makes sense. I forgot the last timeframe was a lot shorter. And the livestream timing is pretty key. Teasing it during the stream just after announcement would make a ton of sense! That would also be a pretty comfortable ~1 month from console's release but about ~1 month out from whatever the next console DLCs are coming in June. Would also give a solid 3-4 weeks ahead of FY24 closing to get those sales in (which could be really powerful if it's cross platform).

I'm on this train now. Maybe not exactly the 23rd... Could be Monday the 22nd too. But just before that Wednesday stream. With a drop on Tuesday, 4/30.

Did they announce when the next Frontier unlocked stream is gonna be? Would make sense to release the DLC at the same time
Not yet. But the last three have been on the final Wednesday of each month. So it's fair to assume that will continue and it will fall on Wednesday, 4/24.

EDIT: Just saw your other post, hah. That JWE2 pack release schedule just felt so strange. It was short even for that game... And I just really feel they'll still try to tease a PZ DLC via livestream. They know how successful those streams were. And I don't think this will be quite as successful because it'll feel a bit more "generic" but... You gotta figure they're going to try something. I just don't see why they wouldn't try to pair it up around a stream.

Ah gotcha my bad misread part of your post :)
Teasing it during the stream just after announcement would make a ton of sense!
Yeah maybe not doing gameplay footage or anything cause that seems a bit rapid, but revealing one or two of the screenshots during the stream or simply just going through what we are getting (nothing new than what we would already know on announce day) would make more people aware of the pack and get them hyped up right after the release.

This way they could also say “so keep your eyes out on our socials in the next week for reveals of all the animals!” Instead of the stream being midway through announce and launch with half the shots already revealed.

So all that logic combined with this which i didn’t think of:
~1 month from console's release but about ~1 month out from whatever the next console DLCs are coming in June. Would also give a solid 3-4 weeks ahead of FY24 closing to get those sales in (which could be really powerful if it's cross platform).
Really is convincing me of an announcement on the 23rd.

Well lagomorphs are incredibly common zoo animals, but the only one that has any real presence is the domestic rabbit with like 800 holdings in EU.
Kinda strange that the wild ones arent kept like at all. They are small so dont need a huge space, energetic and cute, seems like a decent zoo animal to me
I cant say for other areas of the world but rabbits are notoriously invasive so likely face many travel restrictions making all non domestic types harder to get for a zoos collection this is just an idea though no idea if its true.

One could argue that they didnt release the JWE Pack around a stream, so maybe it wont be the case for PZ aswell.
which is it marvin which is it.
I do think the stream and release being connected is very likely either a reveal or teaser in the stream or reveal a couple of days before and use the stream as a showcase.

Wild lagomorphs:
- breed like crazy and die a lot. Cant manage long-term population at all
- highly stress prone and flighty. Generally ill-suited for display.
- wild ones are mostly numerous and to some extent pest-like so no reason to keep them
And on top of that one can get domestic rabbits for free, so zoos dont bother to keep wild ones.

I really wonder if Frontier will incorporate any oddballs, or just kind of go for the general top requested animals. I know in past packs some animals were placed below 50 on the meta wishlist and made it into the packs as filler/oddballs. With this being the (potential and most likely) last dlc I think the best course of action would be top pick animals. Still I think oddballs can be good if they do some cool stuff:

  1. Fill important niches, like the white faced saki for a South American monkey
  2. Provide some new gameplay, like a scarlet ibis giving an update to perching mechanics
  3. Fills out a previously underdeveloped niche, like the grey crowned crane being another mixed habitat African bird species (I love the ostrich but would like more options personally)
  4. Provides more to the message of planet zoo, like the peer David deer which represents important conservation work

We really need an Indian filler animal of some kind, if you want to build an Indian area right now it's basically just all big hitters with elephant, bear, tiger, rhino and gharial. Something like blackbuck, a monkey, axis deer, or nilgai would help to break it up so much.
That’s why I still think that Asia animal pack would still be something I would buy gladly. They could start with a Baboon on Arabian peninsula then go to Himalayas for Markhor, stop in India for Blackbuck and Monkey, hit China for Père David’s deer and Mandarin duck or pheasant, and maybe even touch base with Pacific Walrus.
I would definitely buy that.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if they put out an April fools update and that's why we saw those steamdb updates or whatever they were (I'm not a computer expert)
