Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Which other animals from Planet Zoo that shouldnt be walkthrough like anteater?
If we dont get macaws I think the best options are loris for people who want parrots or humming birds. These lasts ones would fit well in a mountain animal pack.
Okapis imo,
I mean sure there were cases of okapi being an animal ambassador in a talk, but normally they'd be shunning human contact....

I know this has already been discussed to death, but really, I believe the most attractive realistic DLC which can be made rn is the habitat bird DLC. The recent addition of the swan rig makes things way easier. It's crazy the amount of habitat bird which can be covered by the swan, ratite, peafowl and flamingo/red crowned crane rigs alone.

Something like this :

  • the great white pelican (based on swan rig)
  • the mallard duck (based on swan rig again)
  • the golden pheasant (based on the peafowl rig)
  • the rhea (based on the ratite rig)
  • the grey crowned crane (based on the red crowned crane/flamingo rig)
  • the secretary bird (based on the ratite rig with a few new animations)
  • the scarlet ibis (based on the crane/flamingo rig with a few new animations)
  • lorikeet or hummingbirds in the walkthrough habitat (new rigs here)

It would have a clear headliner in the pelican, many very recognizable animals (duck, golden pheasant), a few community favourites with the GCC or the secretary bird... This is not my favourite lineup, but I think it's the one which would be the most popular.

I would just buy a habitat bird pack twice just to show frontier how much I appreciate it <3

That's a great lineup.

I do wonder if the swan was a set up for an all ground birds animal pack. It would make sense, cause that new rig can be used for a duck and pelican, then that frees up more room for a new rig like the Secretary Bird. Cause adding onto what @Corail said, looking at what birds actually need new rigs and how much work they need:
  • Pelican; Base model and rig is there because of the swan, it would only need a new animation and some work with its mouth, but other than that I see this one like the Saiga, not the center focus of work but has one small thing that needs work on.
  • Duck; Same as Pelican, it can work as a clone from the swan, just needs a smaller scale which I can't imagine would be that much work.
  • Another Penguin, Flamingo, Rhea, or a Pheasant; Direct clones, no work needed at all.
  • Secretary Bird; I would imagine this be the new rig of the pack, or at least the one with a lot of new animatons and behaviors. I would love to see an interaction between 2 Secretary birds chasing after each other flapping their wings.
  • Grey Crowned Crane and Monal; A tad more work than a regular clone, due to the Grey Crowned Cranes head with the crown and throat balloon, and for the monal I would imagine the feathers would be pretty hard to get right as well as the fact that the monal has a slightly different structure than the regular peafowl.
  • Any species of Stork or Heron; Again, a bit of work but nothing too extreme I think.
From all this, I think this would be my lineup for an all Ground Birds Animal Pack:
  • Brown Pelican (icon of the pack) (almost clone)
  • Greater Rhea (clone)
  • Grey Crowned Crane (almost clone)
  • Harlequin Duck (it just looks cool lol) (clone)
  • Parakeets (WTE)
  • American Flamingo (clone)
  • Victoria Crowned Pigeon (1st New Rig)
  • Secretary Bird (2nd New Rig)
If we get another bird in the Spring that is a new rig that they can reuse later on (monal for crowned pigeon for example) I think it would definitely be a set up for the Summer being an all ground birds animal pack.

Honestly a habitat bird dlc would probably be my most anticipated outside of another South America dlc, as if I haven’t made that obvious before lol. Person this would be my personal list for a habitat bird dlc:

  1. Burrowing owl, great representation for NA, CA, and SA. The only owl that can be in game and can use the habitat burrow feature. Would also need a completely new rig.
  2. Victoria crowned pigeon. Southeast Asia rep, and our only pigeon that could get in game.
  3. Great White Pelican. Europe and Africa representation.
  4. Mallard Duck, a common duck species found from NA and Europe.
  5. Grey crowned crane for more Africa representation.
  6. Golden pheasant, Asian representation but also a colorful addition to the roster.
  7. American Flamingo, more color and more CA and SA representation.
  8. Exhibit: budgies for the walkthrough.

I would love an all habitat birds animal pack. My perfect line up for this would be:

  • Pelican (Preferibly Brown, but i'll be fine with aby)
  • Duck (preferibly mandarin but any is good)
  • Pheasant (preferibly Golden because is the most iconic and very colorful, but any would do as well with Reeve's, Argus, Blood and Himalayan monal all being among my favorites as well). A guineafowl could be an alternative. Or the Victoria Crowned Pigeon (in order of priorities)
  • Secretary bird
  • Grey crowned crane ( the most iconic crane left, damoiselle is beautiful and among my favorites but we need the crowned crane first and foremost)
  • SA bird: greater rhea, roseatte spoonbill and Scarlet ibis, assuming we get one of this in the LAM DLC as well. Rhea is my priority in whichever way it may come (even as anniversary).
  • A Stork (Marabou is my first pick) or the burrowing owl (i would die of happiness if this happens, they would be soo fun to have ingame)
  • WTE: Hummingbirds (i doubt toucans and parrots Will ever make it but i somehow see hummingbirds as the only possible option for a flying in bird in the WTE)

If final pack is Bird pack then add two or three more direct clones to that list: a penguin (please rockhopper), a flamingo (i prefer andean but it will probably be american one) and black swan.

Im pretty sure that there wont be a habitat bird dlc, even if its EASILY my most wanted animal pack and the most needed DLC overall imo
Oh, if we're going on things that we sincerely doubt very will ever come, a Habitat Bird DLC is #2 on my wishlist, second only to an Exhibit Bird DLC (with like.. 16-24 types of looped flying birds). But the latter is not going to happen, and the former really only has a very very small chance of happening, I think. Only after a focus on Aves would I want either a Latin/South/Central American pack, a Highlands pack, a Primate pack, a Safari pack or a Woodlands pack. But at this point I'll take what I can get, I feel very lucky we've seen content this long into the game, which if you had asked me four years ago, I would have said probably just 2 years of content maybe 3 years max. Of course, 4 years ago I was thinking packs would be more like 15-20 animals instead of 5-8

Well those big Zoo tycoon style expansions with 20something animals are just not feasible with the quality of PZ animals. Without hiring a bunch more devs and significally raiseing the price anyways
Oh, I totally get that and understood that when the South American pack came out. I figured out quickly that releases weren't going to be like the ZT packs were. In fact, I often used the same logic you just did there to justify it. More animals = more cost and more time.

To be fair though, I did think the Arctic pack releasing like it did was not indicative of how most DLC were going to be, considering it came out so close to launch. I just figured they were the animals kept out of the base game to go ahead and get the base game to release on time, like the team had to choose four animals to delay and it made sense to choose those four based on theme. It wasn't til South America released I got a clue.
