Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

So after reading the thread I have a feeling the next dlc will be the last one, a large dlc to tie in with console release. It’s been four years it’s bound to happen eventually.

I want to make it known I would LOVE to be wrong. But based on what has been discussed, I have a hard time seeing otherwise. Especially if they were vague in the financial support. That just makes me wonder, what could the final dlc be??? There is a lot of ground to cover, with some of the following being discussed:
  1. South American animals
  2. More monkeys
  3. Aviaries/ avian dlc
  4. Aquatic dlc
  5. Petting zoos
  6. Mountain pack
  7. The last top 10 of the meta wishlist
If we are going off Planet Coaster, the last pack will be big. I just don’t know what expansion it would be.
My dream scenario is a “Zoo” pack, with 16 or more animals to cover as many bases as possible.

This one is more interesting. Phase one was mostly about non-dev = removal of PZ community team.
Now in February they will tackle dev teams = sending them to other projects.
If you look at this and take into consideration that in February 20th console version of Chaos Gate it aligns perfectly. They are working on last DLC, which will be finished (or even released soon) and then as Iben said:
With a console port, all your assets are already there and a huge portion of that team is no longer required.
In FY25 their portfolio will rely on PZ console re-releasing DLCs, F1 manager 2024 and new CMS game. Would explain why FY25 only includes new releases and nothing else.

I would be happy for those who like it, but I would actually be disappointed. I can see if they did modern extinct animals, but putting extinct animals in Planet Zoo would also make them compete with their own series Jurassic World Evolution 2
Yeah same. Imo there is no point in adding dinosaurs and ice age animals to PZ. There is already JWE and prehistoric kingdom for that.
I can kinda see them adding very recent extinctions like great auks, tasmanian tigers and such, and i would definetly prefer that. But id rather have a normal pack tbh

My immediate guess for the final DLC is that, broadly, it will be larger than usual. Meaning that it will be an animal pack (7 habitat + 1 exhibit) with some scenery items. From a theming perspective, there's a few ideas (both broad and specific) that come to mind as possible options...
  • A generic/broad "catch-all" theme to rope in the last remaining high-level meta wishlist animals and some other essential species. "Amazing Adaptations" or "Wilds of the World" could be reasonable and broad enough to cover this. Scenery items could be a mix of generic zoo scenery and foliage reflecting the theme (e.g., 3-4 new plants from each continent or plants that are particularly "interesting").

  • A general Americas pack that would primarily focus on Latin America with 2-3 North American species. Scenery could be Latin American-focused, or alternately, could just have a woodsy/rustic feel. Or be more generic like an updated extension of the New World pack.
Honestly, I think we're looking at a generic, more broad-reaching pack species-wise rather than anything biome-specific or that requires new functionality like a petting zoo. Arboreal would be my pick but that doesn't quite work with scenery, given where things stand...

I'd also anticipate the final update having a few things that sort of "future-proof" the game and hand the keys over to the community creatively. Whether that's a TMTK, scaling, older items being made flexicolor, a new wall set that functions like billboards or whatever... Things like that.

EDIT: I'd love to be wrong here. Just where my head is at today! It would also be nice to get a DLC in the spring that's got a biome- or region-focus... With a final DLC for summer that's for both the PC and console version that's the broader, bigger pack that I'm highlighting above.

Wrapping up support so early feels like a waste honestly.
Its really not hard to think of a year of more dlc that would most likly sell well, even without any big new things, for example:

- Petting Zoo in Spring:
- African Dwarf Goat
- Guinea Pig
- Muscovy Duck
- Scottish Highland Cattle
- Exhibit
- Barnyard Scenery

- Latin America in Summer:
- South American Coati
- Black Howler Monkey
- Ocelot
- Golden Lion Tamarin
- Roseate Spoonbill/American Flamingo
- Rhea
- Patagonian Mara/Brazillian Tapir
- Two toed Sloth (Exhibit)

- Forest in Fall:
- Southern Pudu/Reevees Muntjac
- Mantled Guereza
- Tree Kangaroo
- European Wild Cat
- Tuatara (Exhibit)

- Anniversary:
- Victoria Crowned Pidgeon (based on peafowl)

- Mountains in Winter:
- Spec Bear
- Alpine Marmot
- Barbary Sheep
- Gelada
- Golden Pheasent
- Yellow Footed Rock Wallaby
- Domestic Yak
- Exhibit

And voila, easy money, atleast if you ask me.
Im no game dev, i got no clue, but if last year sold then this proposed year would sell aswell

I think its more about saving money on development staff for upcoming new games, if the success of both planet zoo and jwe2 is anything to go by, it could be what management thinks the company needs over more dlc for existing games. Who knows maybe a final "game changing" dlc is exactly what the game needs instead of ungulate #101 to draw more players.

Considering PZ support has lasted longer than most of frontiers other games, I don’t think it’s right to say that it is ending “so early”.
Yes, but considering what obvious packs are still left to add, most notably petting zoo and south america 2 it feels strange if they wouldnt do both especally after last year.
What your gonna tell me dry places in africa get an animal pack but south america gets nothing?
Are we really gonna end this game without the peafowl being cloned once?
Are they just gonna leave out baboons?
Sounds weird to me, ngl, especally in financially troubling times to shut down the money maker that still has very easy content to make and a loyal fanbase thats lets be honest rather easy to please

A much larger game changing dlc and update would be nice.

Like it wouldn’t be much, but maybe we finally get birds for the WTE. So the community can use it for mods. Or maybe we just get more birds in general. Maybe like I’ve mentioned in the past, we get some birds that are compatible it’s climbing pieces. Like the scarlet ibis, or a new stork, or anything. (I don’t want to be overly pessimistic but I can almost see the last DLC only being carnivorans and ungulates lmao, I might actually cry if that is the case)

Maybe we could get a handful of aquatic animals, once again we can run off with animals for mods. Like we get a manatee and some large fish and a turtle.

Maybe exhibits get a complete overhaul before the console release is launched.

Or maybe we get more of the same like I mentioned before. Ending on a rather sad note for the greatest animal game I have ever played.

Or maybe we get more DLCs, or new expansion packs, or something exciting and we end on a high note?

Who knows, we well see in a couple months if not potentially sooner.

This is why I still think there could be more in store, or they are saving it for a sequel down the line. I have a lot of feelings about a potential sequel. So I’m not gonna speculate on that right now.

I don’t know, honestly I’m not surprised on how things are going.

Also I completely missed the conversation on the next pack being the last one but I just watched Rudis video and now I’m sad we could be facing the end next spring 😭

This makes speculating so much harder now, Latin America needs it, but I really don’t want our last pack to be Latin America themed since most of the animals I’m hoping for and excited to build for aren’t from LA.

Gelada, Tree roo, Secretary Bird, Tamarin, Spider Monkey, Pallas Cat, AN AMERICAS BEAR (I will be so cheesed off if the last bear we get is the sloth bear) I need them all 😭
