U know what would catapult the sales of the console version? 👀

In all seriousness, I would absolutely love it if they actually went with birds

Ahh, looks like the end is near. Happy for the people that had those endless questions about console release under every Planet Zoo post, but it does not bring me any joy otherwise.

PZ is the best damn zoo game ever, but still I cannot help it but to feel sad. If only we had one more year…

Exactly. I feel the same way and I think it’s important that we recognise that this is not an easy time for many of us and it is entirely ok to feel sad about this and wish that things were different.
Just jumping in to say you're seen and your sadness is valid and understandable. Warm hugs to you both.

I dunno, I have very mixed feelings about the end of support.

On one hand, I'm thrilled to be able to use mods more often without having to deal with updates. I never used prop mods for this reason and I'd only use animal mods if I couldn't find a suitable replacement for a species already in game. Coming from modded Zoo Tycoon 2, a good modding community can expand a games lifespan by a lot, and thus I view this as less of an end and more of a new era. I also think the game just had a good run and I was fully expecting the final pack to come sometime soon, thinking it wouldn’t would be setting myself up for disappointment.

On the other hand, 2023 being our last full year feels like a mixed bag to me. It did some great things in some regards, but I can't say that it really felt like a good wrap up to the game's lifespan. I mean, looking at each pack;

Tropical was a nice boost and everything in it is a great addition, but IMO it didn't really give us anything absolutely essential aside from maybe the fossa. I always like to appreciate packs for what they are rather than what they aren't, but I'm finding that harder and harder as the end of support draws nearer. A theme like Tropical had insane potential to cover some of the aspects the game is lacking in (birds, monkeys, Latin America), and instead we got some decent boosts to Southeast Asia and tropical Africa, which while great, shouldn't have been the priority.

Next up is Arid. I know I and many other people dunk on this one a lot, and I apologize that I may have contributed to some of the negativity surrounding it. There truly isn't a pack I straight up dislike and I think the animal designs in this pack are some of the best in the game, but I'd also be lying if I said I thought many of the critiques against this pack weren’t valid. The representation this pack gave North Africa and the Middle East were very much needed, but they also didn't have to be nearly all ungulates (or literally all habitat mammals), some of which fill very similar niches. Why not a tortoise, or a primate, or one of the many common African ground birds that the region is still missing. Not to mention all the other arid regions of the world that could’ve gotten some great rep here if we’re not considering this as the Palearctic/Afrotropical pack that it functionally is.

Oceania is the exception to me as it gave an otherwise unusable region (non-Australia Oceania, especially Aotearoa) a complete 180. It feels like a callback to the first 2 or so years of the game’s life where Frontier gave regions like Australia and South America more than the next to nothing they had in the base game. Regardless of how useful or not it is to some overseas players, it was undeniably needed for a game called Planet Zoo and I wish we got more packs like it to flesh out some of the roster’s glaring flaws (Latin America for example, which I really hope this next pack is focused on).

Eurasia feels exemplary of 2023 as a whole, as it is in essence a mixed bag to me. We finally got a waterfowl rig, meaning at least some species can be given by modders if not Frontier, and we got some of Europe’s last essentials in the boar and the Wisent. Those were definitely some of this year’s highlights, but the rest? Mostly nice additions, but more ungulates and another bear were really not what the game needed while on its last legs, and that’s coming from someone who actually really loves the sloth bear.

Back to the point of this thread though, I just hope this last pack (if it truly is the last) is a good sendoff. Like I said before, I’m hoping it’s a larger than usual Latin America pack as that’s the only way I see at least that region - plus some much needed monkey representation - being fleshed out. Birds will still be lacking, but I still think it’s the best that can be done with one pack left.

I know there’s been a lot of negativity around the forums lately, so to finish off, I’ll just say that I’m critiquing this game not to be downer, but because I love it and want it to be the best it can be. It truly is the best zoo game we’ve had as of yet, I just can’t help but feel like it’s so close to being way better than it already is. Hopefully if Planet Coaster 2 is successful, we’ll get the long discussed PZ2 and it will fix many of these issues.

(Forgive me if most of this has been discussed before btw, I haven’t kept up with all 100+ pages of this thread lol.)

To be fair, underwater viewings are a nightmare. In general. Then try to make the pool look artificial (like I always want) AND make the path accessable / disability friendly and the real frustration begins.

I can understand the frustration and the learning curve thought. I do have that in other games. In PZ, I admit, I kinda love it. Makes me super proud of myself when I build something good. But yeah, when I look at things like @justGoron aviary tutorial, I want to rage quit the game just trying the first steps 😂 (Highly recommend the tutorial though, for people who have more patience and fustration tolerance than I have)
The thing is, you do not HAVE to build fancy in PZ, but most of us want to.
I’ll chime in too, that underwater viewing setup is a nightmare. Have i done it, yes. Does it look good? Not even remotely. At nearly 1800 hours in ive improved in many ways but setting up underwater viewing is still good chance I’ll get it wrong.

The only thing worse is underground underwater viewing areas which I’m complete rubbish at

Great news for the next wednesday!
Also good question narwhaler mentioned: There will be content for the fifth anniversary? For planco they only did a post for the 5 years.
Probably not, I don't think so. They would invest in a game that doesn't bring too much income anymore.

Am I by the way the only one not excited for wednesday? For me the mash up uf streams only shows the sad downfall of Frontier and reminds me of how many talented and nice people were layed off, sometimes right before the holidays. People who have to carry the consequences of bad business decisions - and in my opinion, not working for more community engagement with your games but instead laying off your community managers is yet another bad business decision.

I really hope things change in that regard and quickly.

Besides, in regards to PZ they would only announce console version anyway. Nothing that brings something new and the only thing excited about this is not needing to read annoying, unfriendly comments anymore.

Given the fact we had only one animal pack recently, and there's a spring coming, I think it's safe to assume we might get one more animal pack.
I think it could be "americas animal pack" or "new world animal pack"
Meta wishlist is also an ally of that theory:
-South American Coati
-Tamandua
-Black Howler Monkey
-Musk Ox
-Golden Lion Tamarin
-Greater Rhea
-North American Porcuipine
-Plumed Basilisk/Green Anaconda/Emerald Tree Boa (exhibit)

I can tell that it's a bit unrealistic but that's my dream cast (I've left Patagonian Mara and Andean bear for a possible highlands pack, along with Hamadryas Baboon/Gelada and Markhor)

I can see the console version getting some exclusive animal. Just as Planet Coaster console version got some exclusive ride that PC players never got.

Maybe something like American flamingo or something. I would be very dissapointed if that is the case, but it is a possibility.

Even then, I am not excited in the slightest, for the same reasons.

I highly doubt they would make a console exclusive animal, Planet Zoo already has a ton of content they dont need an exclusive animal. Also to go off what others were saying it would be super rude to the PC players (us) who have been supporting the game the whole time. Granted a company wouldn’t have to care about that, they only care about good profit.

Still, these next few months will be interesting. What will the final dlc be like? What will console release be like? Will we get more support? What will the new Planet game be like?

Not being optimistic, but I'm hoping they're going to release DLCs throughout the year. I mean I know there's no info on DLCs in FY2025, but that doesn't mean the devs will end production that soon.

Yeah, well, that's the point where I would lose my chill 😅 At the end of the day it is us PC players who made the game thrive for so long. Console is just a sidekick, lets be honest.
I feel the same. I will manage if we don't get more content after this next pack (though I hope we do), but if the console version got exclusive content the PC version didn't, I'd be pretty miffed.

I mean looking at Coaster console there was a console exclusive wooden coaster which iirc didn't come to PC. I could be wrong and maybe it came eventually but i remember it was initially a console exclusive with pre order.

The digital deluxe edition had 2 dlcs bundled with it. I'm assuming the console deluxe will just have the PC deluxe 3 animals.
