Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

I chose to interpret as implying more than one release but I’m happy with the game if we never get anything more.

I feel this way because of the season pass for console. Why bother with a season pass if there’s only going to be one season. Why not just release each dlc at a certain date instead?

Also there are so very highly requested animals left that would be big sellers for future packs. And looking at the animals needed for regions to be well represented I strongly feel we’d need 2-4 more packs for the game to truly feel finished.

The thing is meta lists and other combined and aggregated voting lists, no matter how many animals are added, there will always be animals at the top. So let's say we got the top 10 animals on the 2024 meta in the next two packs. As it stands right now, you would then have the Ocelot as the #1 most requested animal (ironic it's one I suspect we'll get in a Latin America pack but that's besides the point I'm making). At some point the animals at the top of the list really are not high priority animals anymore. They're just mid-grade priority animals that happen to have the most amount of votes.

And at some point, Frontier is also going to just stop support. They're not going to include every animal that's in the top regions of the list the longer support goes on. Instead, those animals simply don't make it in. Frankly I think we're at that point already, but at any rate, even with another year of content, Frontier isn't going to look at animals like the Pallas Cat (sorry Pallas Cat fans) and Blackbuck and say these are "must have" for the community in general.

If we get two more packs, I think the odds are most likely for a Latin America and some kind of roundup back. Leaving Latin America aside (since it would almost certainly include the Coati), I don't expect we'll get everything in the near reaches.

Makes me wonder if the final dlc has something with birds in it? Maybe not the main focus but a heavy one?

Man I would feel sad for everyone, BUT I WOULD BE SO HAPPY 4YEARS TO FINALLY GET A BIRD DLC

But I doubt it, it’s definitely copium. Granted, the last 2 DLCs have had some of the best looking birds/animals in the game. With a new bird rig to boot, and some underutilized bird rigs as well.

I would feel bad because everyone has been wanting a bird dlc for years, but if it’s the final dlc I can imagine people being upset. It would be like the pistachio ice cream meme from SpongeBob. We asked for it for years, then get mad it didn’t have something else in it.

What is interesting is the flamingo flight animation in the console trailer which i have yet to see since buying the game in 2019

I'm afraid I can confirm that it's in the game atm, it's the animation played at the end of the jumping behavior. It's mostly because it's shown without the jump that precedes it that it looks like something new, but it's always been there

Ofcourse there will always be another most wanted animal, but if i look at the 2024 meta wishlist and imagine Frontier would just add the top 25 animals in this year, id say the game would be in a more or less perfect spot to end on. Maybe kick out the gelada in favor for something else, since i dont feel like we need both it and the hamadryas, but otherwise?

I agree with the sentiment of what you're saying, but they've not been at the top for years. There have been some species that have had a good amount of discussion about them - in no particular order:

Muskox
Baboon
Coati
Secretary Bird
Walrus
Tree Kangaroo
New World Primates in general

I wish we could go back to the meta lists and see where these species started out each year. like in 2021 and 2022. we have one for 2023. I know you indicated the lists are not a strong factor for you, but without actual numbers it's all subjective as to what's important (each person would naturally think their own wants are more important, generally speaking)

What I do remember though, is that of the original list from 2020, we received every one of the top 20 animals (as well as many others of course). Every single one. These remaining animals haven't been forerunners of the lists all this time.

It'll be macaws. No way they introduce budgies and say "hey this is all the parrots you get, nothing of those colorfully flamboyant, extremely popular, ingrained in the colective conciousness, essential latinamerican zoo animals that are the macaws"

Yeah in an ideal world we would have both, but i just think that spot could go to better use than a second "baboon", i dont even mind to much which one it is.
Also these two compete so hard for the same spot like no other pair of animals that i just cant see them making it both

I didn't usually play with flamingos so idk if they do it frequently but the cranes do have flapping animations so is nothing new regardless. Swans do it as well.

I can honestly see the shoebill coming, it’s a fairly popular meme animal like the quokka.
Granted the Pallas cat isn’t in game either so who knows.

I'm team secretary and i feel there will be only one "unique" bird like that. For some reason i think getting one means the other won't make it.

I would be super happy with anything from the top 25. Apart from that please bring Père David’s deer and Lion tailed macaque
Those are my most precious species out there.
