Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Common zoo animal? I dont think there is a single one in captivity
No its not a common zoo animal but it is in all the zoo tycoon games and a few other games as well saying it doesnt have a place in planet zoo just ignores every other game in the genre and when has captivity presence stopped frontier.

it is one of the most common animals in zoo games not already in planet zoo
It looks very similar to the Indian rhino, though. Would it really add something new?
If we're talking practically identical animals, I think a better option, that's also in many zoo games, would be a 2nd giraffe, namely the Masai. While similar, they are distinct enough to be a nice inclusion and bring in some giraffe variety

But does that really matter in the end? I get that it has significance from the other games but come on compared to all the other species we’re missing there’s no way the Javan rhino is anywhere close to a priority. It’s not common in zoos meaning it’ll be treated the same as the Saiga, and it’s almost a clone of the Indian rhino.

there are some difference but they are ultimately very similar to each other around or slightly less visually apart then the masai giraffe is. The masai giraffe is high up on my list to just simple to have more variety in giraffes neither are essential but would be nice.

its by no means essential and it will likely be treated like the saiga but it has a place in the game and its seems unfair to completely reject it.

If we can have the Asian wild buffalo, why not the Javan rhinoceros or the Sumatran rhinoceros?
Why should the presence of the wild buffalo affect what other people want?

both are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down my wishlist.

Its simple, the Asian wild buffalo is not currently kept in captivity in the world, but this does not affect its appearance in the game.

So what - it’s a bad inclusion. What frontier has or is willing to put into the game isn’t the question and is irrelevant - the question is what I (or other individuals) want in the game. I would prefer animals that are actually in zoos - Frontier demonstrating that they’re happy to put things in the game even if they’re not in captivity doesn’t affect my level of desire for them. Likewise, if frontier had been unwilling to put them in the game, it would still be perfectly ok for you (or anyone else) to want them included.

Is common occurrence in zoos the most important criterion? Oh...how many zoos around the world have bonobos kept? As far as I know, there are no more than 27. In terms of sheer numbers, are there more golden monkeys? Why do we have it in the base game? And I've never met a single person who had a problem with that?

Dude, what you want to have is your right. Everyone who has spent money on this game has the right to express their wishes. Of course, to a certain extent, those who have not spent money can also do it. I just want to say that if the commonness of a species in the zoo is used as an important criterion, well...then some of the animals we have now do not actually meet the criteria, and some animals have been absent for too long. If we take the sheer number of a certain species in zoos around the world as a criterion, then moose and reindeer are definitely not as numerous as sika deer. Especially moose. But does this affect our owning them? No. Does anyone have a problem with moose? No. On the contrary, although I really wanted PD deer and sika deer, I didn't mind that we got moose, I also like this species very much. So having another Asian rhino is no big deal.

I think those rare, or not in captivity animals are neat additions to the game. What kinda annoys me is that for stuff like the saiga or proboscis monkey they are the only one of their niche in game. Both being the only asian antelope and tropical asian monkey respectively, ontop of a general lack of monkeys and asia hoofstock arent exactly plentyfull either. And both of those would have had alot of options available.

Something like the platypus i have no problems with because its in zoos, just restricted to one area, its a pretty iconic and well known animal and there isnt anything similar to chose instead

As I said

Also as I said - imo, those were poor choices and I hope they’re not repeated.

Not commonness, presence. Animals rare in zoos are (imo) fine, those absent from zoos are ok to add but it puts them a long way down my list of desired animals - but that’s just my opinion - everyone else is free to have a different one and (mostly) their reasons are just as valid as mine. Commonness in captivity is a perfectly valid criterion for someone’s personal preference even if it’s not one of your criteria.
