Spring dlc Speculation 2023

Frontier looking for the Carnivoran species:

I swear any carnivoran that could still realisticly show up in a desert pack would be such a waste.
Sand Cat? Feline Fennex Fox
Ringtail? Pretty cool but less cool then the peccary snd burrowing owl while not being a fan favorite

Its really a chance for frontier to throw non carnivoran mammals and reptiles a boon.
Even the honorable mentions are carnivore free with the addax, barbary sheep, rock hyrax, more australia and the patagonian mara

The ideal carnivore for a desert pack!

What about the White Nosed Coati? Well, depending on whether we get a Rainforests or Woodlands pack first of course… But if it’s deserts first, I’d love the coati to make an appearance!!!
Edit: I know that most of its habitat is forested, but it DOES appear in the Sonoran. So it counts as much as a lot of the animals in the Grasslands pack counted for that one!

Gray fox. I noticed that controversial animals make it on, so if we all can agree that the gray fox is controversial, then Frontier will add it and I'll get it. WHO'S WITH ME?!
Sure, if we have another roadkill/fur-bearer pack with grey fox and common brustail possum then I am down for it.

No thanks, not even good enough for an honorable mention.
It isnt even a desert animal
Ratels are found in deserts in both Africa and Arabia though, that is just plain wrong. And what is wrong with it? It is an iconic species and is unique from anything else we currently have. It's not super common in zoos but it is prevalent enough and combined with its iconicity and uniqueness I think that makes it an excellent choice.

While not bad, south american coatis are just extremly more common and they would fit without a problem in a rainforest pack so again id decline them and rather wait for a rainforest pack

Its functionally caracal but badger, only found in a handfull of zoos and from the information i found of them while they are found in the middle east they are very rare in the deserts and keep away from them in favor of grasslands and mountain ranges as they dont do well in wet or dry climate

Fair! I too would prefer them in a Rainforests pack and would expect that sort of pack to come first. But if we didn’t, I’d rather get them in a Deserts pack as our dedicated carnivoran than not at all!

Well, the white-nosed is slowly becoming the go to coati for European zoos, since they are not considered invasive and are therefore allowed to breed with. Seen several zoos make the shift already, and heard more are planning on it.
So I think it will make as much sense as the other actually

While true, including them would mean either 3 NA animals or cutting either peccary or burrowing owl, so while i see the argument, logistically id still rather get the south american in a tropical rainforest pack.
I wouldnt be disappointed with the white nosed, far from it as theyd be my prefered 4. NA desert animal, but when a close cousin thats also arguably the more iconic version is near must include for a tropical rainforest pack id rather have another non carnivoran.
Once we get one the other would be a prime candidate for a clone pack though

Only issue for a desert pack is that white-nosed coatis are not much of a proper desert animal (as opposed to honey badgers, which at least actually live in deserts). In the American southwest they occur mostly in dry woodlands and forests rather than true deserts.

(from the IUCN):
White-nosed Coati is highly adaptable but is basically a tropical woodland and open forest animal. It is rarely seen in open grassland or desert. Its distribution in Arizona and New Mexico corresponds to that of Encinal and Mexican pine-oak woodland. In the south-western U.S.A., it is found in oak woodlands or hardwood riparian canyons over 1,400-2,300 m. It is also occasionally seen in chaparral conifers.

A broader "Drylands" theme may fit them though.

Fur-bearer, not roadkill. Gray foxes aren't roadkill here. I've been in the country so many times and travelled all across Texas and not once have I seen a gray fox (or any fox for that matter). Only coyotes, raccoons, armadillos, opossums, and wild boar
Well I am sure people would still call a fur-bearer pack a roadkill pack regardless.

A second fur-bearer and roadkill pack that rustles the jimmies of over 90% of the PZ community would make me very happy (bc if the species not the anger of the community):

Grey fox
Brushtail possum
Short-beaked echidna/Crested porcupine (idk if frontier would bother with two spiny animals at one pack)
Virginia opossum

Building theme: that’s a tough one. Maybe a whimsical gnome village theme would work.

I wonder why they still didn’t posted the Weekly Streaming Schedule. I thought they’ve always updated it on Mondays.

UPDATE: They’ve just updated it but without JWE2 on Friday so maybe a special stream for them then 🤩
JWE2 always indicated that PZ new DLC premiere is very near.

That's good news, the speculation for a mid march stream for jwe2 was right
