I have two id like to add:As we're getting into hopefully the last third of the wait for news and reveals on what will be coming, I've thought to put down a list of potential themes and a possible headliner/big name seller/popular animal included. I know headliners are not always the most popular animal from our perspective, but for the most part the animals being used as the headliner are usually the most generally well known. Aside from SEA using the Sun Bear, and I suspect that's because of the leak a few months beforehand, and North America using the Beaver I think they all have been anyways, though the Koala and Kangaroo probably are so close in general familiarity that either could have been the headliner. I'm going to try to keep to that idea with some exceptions. So here goes:
Rainforest/Tropical - Sloth - not sure on exact species - I'm thinking this theme is the most likely theme we'll see sometime this year but I'm not sure it'll be the Q1 pack.
Islands - Tasmanian Devil - very hard to pick between this and the Kiwi.
a "Cold/Ice" type of theme, for lack of a real snazzy title - Walrus
Highlands - Wolverine (it's time for a mustelid to headline and the Wolverine is probably in the second tier of general familiarity)
Petting Zoo - Rabbit - not sure on exact species
Farmlands - Sheltland Pony, though this theme may be combined with the petting zoo idea.
Dry Lands - Crested Porcupine - this is more Savannah or Plains and scrubland, not Desert - but i think the theme is too close to Grasslands IMO
Desert - Dromedary
Avian - Toucan or Bald Eagle - potentially several birds honestly.
Nocturnal - our friends the Tasmanian Devil and the Kiwi both make good choices, though I suspect we won't see this type of theme, it too close to Twilight's theme.
Coastal - Walrus again
Arboreal - Sloth again
West Asia - Golden Jackal -- hear me out here, despite having soo many canines, we've not had one headline a pack as yet. Probably would not be the most well known, but could give us our final Canid.
India - Indian Cobra. A cobra is the only standard exhibit animal I think could headline a pack.
Any other ideas to add? I think that covers most of the more commonly discussed ideas but I could be missing something.
Yeah the safari pack had been discused before. I would prefer it to be a mix of animals from all over though, not just Africa.I have two id like to add:
Temperate Forest with Wild boar, Black bear, Tanuki, Golden snubnosed monkey and more.
Safari/ African adventure which could add a lot of the still missing african species like Black rhinos, a baboon, honey badgers and so on.
I think it would be better to have a monkey like the howler or spider headline an aboreal pack. Just my opinion though. As we're getting into hopefully the last third of the wait for news and reveals on what will be coming, I've thought to put down a list of potential themes and a possible headliner/big name seller/popular animal included. That is actually a great idea. I would hate if Ibises, spoonbills and other big enough birds were locked in that huge exhibit box. An enrichment is always a nice compromise for things like that, as those birds do not fly that much in zoos anyways.A simple enrichment item that make birds like waldrapp ibises and vultures fly from the ground and up on a cliff to sit is all such birds need to behave believable.
Same can be done with a dead tree for other birds

I don't know really... we try to forget about the whole flagship animals each dlc but someone always brings it upwhat’s the obsession with ‘flagships’? - maybe that meant something back when buying a game meant going into a shop… although, even then, not for expansions (in the days before DLC)… these days it means almost nothing.

All of this is why I think the idea of a headliner/flagship animal is important, thank you for saying it better than I probably could. Consider the Grasslands pack, if they had put the Maned Wolf on the cover, most of us here would know what that is, but to people just casually looking at the contents of the DLC, they may think it's just another fox. The Armadillo, as much as I personally don't like it, is recognizable and unique compared to what's already in the game. NAAP was a bit of a headscratcher as they used the Beaver instead of the Moose, Sea Lion or Cougar, but the Beaver is well known, and it was our first rodent - actually 2 were in that pack, but it was likely taking the thought that it was..finally...a rodent.Pictures / Visuals will grab your attention before words, so it will make the difference from a high selling game straight out of the gate to a clunker before word of mouth kicks in.
Plus the title and description will change for the player for example from English to Japanese. The animal on the 'cover' won't and has to universally represent the pack. as pointed out to me by a colleague of mine, people can't be bothered to read description's anymore so it's down to the flagship to sell it, and it should be the most recognisable animal, and ideally it is cute/powerful so for a prospective island pack it would be the kiwi.
I guess if some people are really concerned about it, rather than thinking of it as a flagship/headliner, they can feel free to think of it as "what animal would most likely be included in this theme?" Win/Win.And, in my opinion, it's a fun thing to speculate ahaha. Each pack having a "representative" of some sort is a cute concept.
So, what'd your idea of a headliner/flagship animal?I guess if some people are really concerned about it, rather than thinking of it as a flagship/headliner, they can feel free to think of it as "what animal would most likely be included in this theme?" Win/Win.
Of course that's not the case. I'm not sure if this was directed at me, maybe not at all, but just checking. If I've ever made anyone feel like their animal suggestions were wrong or bad suggestions to make, or how they should be marketed or implemented I apologize. Everyone has a right to their opinions. We all may not always agree with each other's opinions, but the great thing about opinions is that opinions are always going to be valid, since each opinion is a summation of how a person feels about certain animals.Ah so when I suggest headliner/flagship animals its a bad idea that doesn't matter to sales, but when others say it it's totally fine.... Sigh
That's because your ideas are so far ahead of the rest of ours we can't stand it when somebody upstages us...Ah so when I suggest headliner/flagship animals its a bad idea that doesn't matter to sales, but when others say it it's totally fine.... Sigh
