Newcomer / Intro SRV control!

Yes, that would have been helpful Fnord Velkor! It's a X56 Saitek.

Well I use HOTAS too - I have the stick X-axis assigned to steer and I have my throttle set to the throttle axis forward only with throttle pinky button as axis reverse (push to hold).

I find it easy to steer using the tilt of the stick (x-axis) - much easier than using stick twist to steer. As for skidding, spinning, etc it is just a case of getting used to the surface and gravity - higher g is less skittish - ice is most slippy. Changing the pips and keeping speed and acceleration under control makes for good progress.

Good luck (y)

I use
Drive Assist OFF
Throttle forward only with a button hold down for reverse
Steering Joystick twist axis

I tend to hold the speed down as the Scarab isn’t always the most stable thing to drive.

I'd personally give another vote for Drive Assist Off but that's partly 'cos I'm an SRV racer and drive assist limits the SRV's top speed.

Ages ago I wrote an article for Sagittarius Eye magazine on SRV driving which subsequently got used as the script for the following video.

The other thing to say is that the SRV is very skittish when in contact with the ground, especially at speed, so what you should do is get used to using the boost (4 pips to ENG at all times) to get the SRV off the ground, piloting it more like a helicopter than a ground vehicle. I have literally hundreds of videos showing this technique, commonly called "flyving" (a cross between flying and driving).

Using this technique you can ultimately get the SRV up to enormous speed (well in excess of 100m/s) and then go bounding across the landscape, even circumnavigating entire planets if you so desire.

Thank you for the advice. Drive Assist OFF definitely helps!

What do I do if the SRV gets stuck?!

Also, is there a technique for shooting the polonium etc, sometimes they won't fly of the shards!

Try the vertical thrusters and rolling the vehicle...

If you can target polonium (or any other material) it means you've already shot it off or out of, the rock.

Sometimes, rock formations (crystals, shards etc.) are really difficult to shift - I've had a few where they simply cannot be shot off. Try all angles and even jumping if you're on foot - yes, you can shoot rocks from on-foot too :)

Hi all,

Anyone got any tips for SRV control. I'm finding it almost impossible.....

Paul
I've always found the engine too powerful and quirky.

I turn the drive assist off and put max power to weapons. That makes the SRV much more manageable to me. It's not as quirky or fast so you have much better control over it.

1. Wot Tyres said ^^^ plus if all else fails exit to desktop, start base game (Elite Dangerous) and you will be recovered to orbit, srv in its hangar.

2. Never needed to do it at shards but Guardian materials sometimes get "hung up" when you shoot off the panel - in that case use boost to fly the srv up and the magic scoop will collect the material - this also happens at brain trees so it should work at shards.

P.S. Looks like @Red Anders was right I am the ONE who prefers DA on.
