Standard Beta Release Discussion thread

I promise to ask for you in person, Mike. ;)

I'll learn to fly first, just wish I could practise landings in a scenario instead of risking other people too.

That's quite alright... I'm 'usually' fairly tolerant ;)

Landing's not too bad so long as you don't go rip-roaringly fast around the stations. Align yourself with the letterbox from some distance out to start with and then fly straight towards it trying to keep to the side lit with the green lights. Pause just before you reach the station and THEN ask for permission to dock so you have more time to get inside safely... Keep practising and remember to make use of the free Sidey for a while until you've practised enough :)

Oh dear... so the 29th is stay away from the forums week for the impatient ones amongst who can't cope with the endless, it's too difficult/ I can't dock / where's this / where's that threads ;)

Hope you'll enjoy the ride beta people... remember to practise, practise and practise some more before you say it's too hard etc ;)

There could well be a significant increase in new thread. And the same thing for new moderators ?

:p

So given Alpha backers are due to get releases a head of time we should be expecting to see something even sooner than the end of July... :)

Mike, you know what you have to do? Get to Tesco's nice and early on the 29th:p

well, here we go. Finally I will jump in, even if it's impossible now to make an upgrade from the standard version. But there is one month to fix it :D

Another subject is the life expansion pack, it's a leap of faith. What do you think will be the price for the single expansions?

I'm a little bit worried about the exp pass and the "lever of success". This is the quote :

"We have regularly said that depending on the level of success of Elite: Dangerous we intend to continue expanding it with new content and new features."

I firmly believe that elite is capable of selling 1 million copies during the first month after the final release and surely will be a huge success at the level of a AAA title and never seen before for a space sim, but I've a little fear about the planetary landing which is my main favourite feature. Probably is just a paranoia :p

Yeah - I picked up on the "depending on the level of success" bit - frankly that bit worries me the most.

I hope this game sells well - real well!

Infact my bet is 1 milion in one month (so at the full retail price) and for a game like Elite is huge. And the sales will rise after the word is spread .

This is my idea:

60k elite backers + a lot (near all I think) from the SC fan base who didnt already backed ED + the vast majority that didn't backed and just waited for the final release + another part of people who missed the development and will discover it with the reviews.

:D

I think that the words chosen by Michael are there to encourage existing backers to commit themselves a little more. It is a kind of commercial science

I must admit this is the 1st time that IMO the devs have admitted the possible fact that the game hasn't sold or may not sell well enough to make the promised DLC.

Hopefully this is just posturing to get more money or maybe it is planting the vseed of doubt so we don't complain about MTs

Or maybe FD are just covering their backs

But with rumours of CIG burning through their money it does make u wonder.

Would deserve, perhaps a new thread for discussion ?

I think Elite D will be successful, but I don't even think they will hit a million after a full year.
