Star Citizen Discussion Thread v11

Also love how the OP shows only concept art while talking about the mode in present tense like its already released. But that's nothing new about the SC crazies.

I think some Star Citizen understanding slowly that the Roberts Clan could not deliver the game of their dreams.

I won't bet my life on this. For some SC is already better than any game ever made before, and if the next major update integrates features close to SC, it will sound like "CIG was right" to them so they will support even more.

And let's not forget that whatever fdev releases, you can be sure that CIG will restart the hype machine with more awesome features that are "just around the corner" .

Too right. When it comes to Star Citizen its all about comittment amd thats a tough nut to crack. You dont just drop it. And it explains nicely why SC has so many die hard fans who are unwilling or unable to see the cracks. For most this decision has come pretty early in development, years ago and most of them are simply "buckling down" and "weathering the storm" right now, maybe seeing the issues and not agreeing with the direction but they are comitted so there really is no out anymore. Now add the financial factor, for some well into the tens of thousands of dollars and this comittment becomes so heavily enforced that you are dragged along without free choice.

So ED delivering on its promises wont do anything to change these peoples mind. Already, Elite is talked down and bashed for things that are simply not true (among some deserved criticism of course) and its flight experience and immersion (with VR I hear easily surpassing SC.....) disregarded or talked down as "shallow". If ED improves and progresses its more likely being seen as a threat and from hard experience I can only say that we dont deal with individuals (for the most part) who are able to admit a mistake and change their view.

In the end, Star Citizens qualities will always be defendable with the "I think...:" defense. It could be the crappiest game in existence....some would still have "fun" playing it and continue to hold up the banner....what other choice do they have? This isnt a crap game from the crap bin that people pick up for 5 bucks, test and throw away. With the pricetag and emotional investment/time in Star Citizen people will stick around....no matter what.

The only way I can see Star Citizen going under is when CIG shuts down services and files for bancruptcy aka nothing the community can affect or influence. As long as its down to the players.....SC will continue.

from the ToW thread I like this one the best so far.....

The problem with the argument of ToW being a testbed for a controlled environment to develop PU gameplay, is that testbeds should be scaled-downed models of the actual gameplay environment. The idea being that once you've created a viable design, it should then be able to scale back up to the scope of the PU. That can't happen if your test environment doesn't emulate the PU on a small scale without a variety of artificially controlled variables induced into it that do not scale upwards and thus won't be available in the Persistent Universe at full scale.

Need we be reminded that we already have "testbed" modules that were supposed to be small scale environments to work on gameplay for the PU? Yet, Arena Commander is a prime example of this very problem already demonstrated. AC was not handled properly and thus, the end result produced nothing that addressed the needs of the PU and isn't a suitable environment for experimentation anymore (if it ever was). 6 years after it appeared, we still don't have a consensus of what SC's flight model should focus on. Arguably, the primary mandate of AC was a flight model that was fun to dogfight with... and AC hasn't done much to help us get there.

Star Marine is more of the same. We spent millions of dollars and 5 years of effort on an "FPS module" that has done nothing but emulate a cheap knock-off version of a traditional action experience like Call of Duty, except done badly. If players want to play Battlefield, Call of Duty or Apex Legends, they can already do that, and as a far superior experience.

So why would Theaters of War be any different? All this does is mash what AC and SM should have been into one mini-game mode that caters to a demographic of players that probably were never Star Citizen players to begin with, nor will they ever be.

Because it points out a fact that is easy to miss once you focus on ToW and get blinded by the hype. ToW becoming a success isnt relevant at all to SCs development. It truly is just a diversion and waste of time and money. It will add an option for people to spend some time in if it works but thats an option nobody really asked for. People are waiting for this functionality in the PU and ToW is simply the cheap excuse at the moment from a CIG that is unable to deliver on its promises. So many posters say "I dont care about ToW" and thats something I can easily believe. Nobody asked for it yet CIG made the decision to focus and spend money and time on it....for something nobody really wanted in the first place. Just another red flag in long crimson line

If Elite can deliver on the next major update that will pretty much do it for Star Citizen.
Not sure that will be the case. I think only SC can bring down/up SC... But if ED delivers well things like space legs etc (big if) including good integration in VR etc it is at least going to be very pop corn worthy to witness the mental gymnastics required for the most extreme SC fans to hold on to the dream and diss Elite.

They are obviously heretics and need to be shouted down on the forums and called haters and FUDsters.
Just read through the latest roadmap roundup section...I guess 95% of the folks that posted are all haters that need shouted down ;)

I reckon Ci¬G are preparing for another 2016-2017 scenario...where they disappear for an entire year, don't offer any progress reports and go radio silent....then appear a year later like nothing has happened and declare they're starting again...

I remember it being called 'doing a Bobby Ewing' at one point...for folks that remember Dallas on TV...I was an addicted fan, still have my 'I shot JR' T-shirt :D

Is that where it all turned out to be a dream after someone was kidnapped by aliens?

I could see something like that happening. Sandi has bene absent for a long time. Maybe she will make a dramatic return, telling of how she was kidnapped by aliens and probed. She will get up on stage and tell it with tears streaming down her eyes, as she announces the latest concept ship, based on the aliens design. The ship will come with its own Sandi NPC as well. CR will announce a new alien race will be added to the PU (at a later date of course) and hire someone to create a language for it based off Sandi's hazy recollections!

Arent they all goons, brainwashed by the one and only Dark Lord himself ?
That’s also a funny thing the dark lord himself is realy quiet. So the citizens could not blame him for not delivering or making a mysterious hate campaign. What we now see is that they could not deliver. About ~300 Million wasted and there is no end in sight.

Bobby Ewing (Patrick Duffy) died in the show...2 years later the producers brought him back after a succession of dull plot lines had the viewer figures dropping. He appeared in the shower in the opening scene in the episode and the plot went that the last 2 years had all been a dream...absolutely legendary script writing :D

If you ever needed an example of cult followers...Dallas had them by the millions. I was one of them

What is Theatre of War?

Nothing much. Just something CIG apparently spent 8 months working on behind the scenes with no mention of it on the roadmap or in any other media, which apparently won't be ready for months yet.

They showed it off a bit at the con last year, but apparently stopped people playing it by turning the computers off because apparently people were more interested in testing the new mode than listening to someone prattle on about quanta or alien languages or whatever was going on.

Seriously, no matter what FUDsters invent, it doesn't compare to the shennanigans CIG themselvesd get up to.

Oh yeah, ToW is just a Battlefield mode. Probably inspired by Rexshilla's roleplay videos and may have even started development to enable him to do his shouty battlefield roleplay without spending half a day setting it all up. However, it appears either Rexzilla's contract came to an end with CIG or he was poached away by Facebook Gaming to play CoD and Escape from Tarkov. Or else he decided he needed to dissasociate himself from SC/CIG.

I used to watch Dallas and Dynasty as a kid, but probably wasn't paying too much attention to it by that point. Wasn't the same without good ol' JR.

Well, when you predict the downfall of a game multiple times, and it stubbornly fails to fail, it probably gets a bit boring.

That's funny.....anyway I really find fascinating that people getting so much upset about roadmap and CIG broken promises now in 2020, what's the difference?I mean CIG also lies in 2019,2018,2017,2016....roadmap was "broken"after every single patch, they are been lying&delaying again&again why does it seems that citizens getting upset now more then ever?

Well, they have a FPS module already. And vehicles. Shouldn't be too hard to put that together.
