I meant that I doubt charged-back payments/donations (made to CIG when fraudsters are ordering ships/packages for quick resale) are deducted from the pledge tracker.

While that is certainly the case do you think they would add up to be a substantial amount? CIG fought and eventually denied refunds fairly quickly after all

No idea.

This isn't about refunds btw; it's about the creditcard companies (i.e. Visa, Mastercard) issuing chargebacks to CIG for fraudulent payments being made using stolen cards/accounts. CIG have no way to stop that money being reimbursed - i.e. they lose funds that they thought they'd received legitimately.

End result is grey-market traders should be careful about who they buy from.

That's been an issue for years now.

The grey market regularly encountered problems with sellers: expensive ship/package (bought using stolen creditcard) being sold too cheap, buyer pays to Paypal, creditcard provider does chargeback to CIG, CIG kills the ship/package, buyer loses out.

I doubt the funding tracker shows this.

There was a really obvious scammer a couple of years ago on the refunds sub who said they were there to help people with their refunds and then legged it with the dosh as soon as someone was unwise enough to trust them with account details.

When the grey market/refund subs targeted that way the customer base must be developing a bit of a reputation as easy marks.

I'd be very cautious of anyone there offering any sort of help beyond advice on doing it yourself.

Edit : I'd also double check that advice

on top of that REC makes even less sense.. am i reading that right? the game has an entirely separate currancy for when you want to rent a ship? why not merge that with UEC (or aUEC if they do not want arena commander to earn in game money officially once the game goes live?)

REC is only for Arena Command. Kinda like SC's version of CQC. You most likely would not need to worry about it at all. If you want to rent a ship in the PU, it is with aUEC.

Somehow, this seems both ironic and very fitting. But I'm a nasty mean old hater. :D

Hi
So I just read the following

it seems far more convoluted than it needs to be. I get aUEC - its alpha etc etc, so IF they were giving you loads of aUEC - more than the actualy amount of UEC you will get at launch that would make sense, but it seems to be completely the opposite of that.

i know i am an outsider to the game so perhaps it all makes sense once you play for a few hrs - which is ok if it does - but it all seems counter intutive to me.
Don't get me started on REC :D

REC are electronic credits used solely for arena commander...Star Citizen CQC basically... so you can rent ships and equipment to test them in a PvP or PvE scenario outside of the PU. There used to be a bug where you could outfit your own ships in arena commander and the upgrades remained when you switched to the PU...since removed by Ci¬G.

Edit: Ninja'd by Sovapid

I wouldn't go near reddit for anything...far less a grey market purchase. Most reputable sellers/buyers use Ebay and Paypal for any and all transactions...seller/buyer protection and all that. Usual common sense rules apply as with any Ebay purchase...don't click on any star citizen package that is available via bidding, check what you're buying and who you're buying it from, email the seller for more details, if they don't reply, don't buy....most importantly, If it looks too good to be true...it probably is ;)

So CIG gets money back or CIG loses money?

As i recall, chargebacks hurt the credit rating of the person or company they are levied against.

Renting stuff with REC is incredibly broken. If you rent a ship with REC, you can not modify it. You have to fly it stock. And since the stock loadouts are garbage, CIG has made AC completely p2w. Only the people who bought their ships with cash can change the load out. And since this is an arena shooter, there definitely is a "win" state.

I've never played AC...only ever went in there when the old PU bug was active...saved forking out aUEC for upgrades. Very handy for filling everything with attritions or mass drivers at the time :D

Err...pressed Alt+F9 to start recording and it kills the power to my prospector. A bit of keybind fettling needed :D

Anyway, a tiny slice of mining with a prospector in SC...minus the scenic but fairly boring part of mining... flying about looking for decent rocks. That was one tough piece of granite anyway, the rock mass (7205.05) was about at the limit of a single prospector, even fitted with a Helix mining head...took ages to crack it at 100% power and had to get so close it dented my shields when it popped.

The selectable VTOL mode on the prospector makes it pretty maneuverable when zipping around a rock so you can nose down when scanning etc....also thanks to not having to suffer the old hover mode rubbish which made mining in a ship a complete farce.

is Arena commander always going to be separate from the main game with its own currency? or is it likely to be a little side earner like CQC for ED (or do you think it will be retired?)
