It can't be that bad amongst the new player chat? I've seen some of the streams and sure, it's extremely buggy and unstable at the moment, but I would have thought there'd be enough there for newbies to find something to interest them past the 30 day refund period.
Practically every gameloop...not that there are many to begin with and one of them needs a $160 spend to realistically get involved in... are beset by an ever growing list of bugs, the servers are randomly crashing, desync is horrendous, the game physics are so broken it's almost a standing joke...if they last 30 days of that on promises that there's some Jesus patch on the near horizon to fool them past the 30 day refund window...they fully deserve to be citizens :D

The game chat I'm seeing from the newbies isn't good...the advice and comments from the longer term backers isn't too inspiring for the newbies either. We're all sick to death of marking time waiting on fixes...or wasting time watching development go backwards every patch would be more accurate. The constant raft of too often used excuses or almost development silence from Ci¬G isn't helping. This smacks of Ci¬G's behaviour from 2016 already and it's getting worse.

It's the traditional money spenders that are chucking the worst of it judging by the amount of anger and frustration on Spectrum...I note who's posting what amongst the more damning commentary and a load of them are not only concierge or above but also evocati. There's been 2 evocati that I know of...possibly more... removed from ETF after posting pretty vicious comments about the development on reddit or Spectrum in the last couple of months alone.

Is it called Theatres of War ;)

PS they have contracted a game out to another dev house as it goes. The GuardFrequency guys dug into (26m20s) a contract CIG made with a company called Icesprite to ‘develop a video game’. Icesprite are an affiliate of Firesprite, a games company currently producing PSVR games.

Who knows what it is. (Mobile app? Console port? Long awaited VR extravaganza? Pick your preference really). They don't seem to have mentioned it anywhere publicly though ;)

Firesprite are listed as developing one or more game(s) for Xbox Series X (as are FDev). Guard Frequency found the direct links including the loan between CIG and Firesprite.

Xbox Series X port of Squadron 42? Possible but a good while off with how poor the NPC AI is currently, the tech needs a lot more work. And the Sq42 roadmap died in March after months of stagnation.

Xbox Series X port of Theatres of War, maybe even the PC iteration too? Much more likely, because it's strictly 20vs20 Battlefield-like PvP matches so it won't need any NPC AI. Plus it's scheduled to enter public testing later this month. Quicker to develop, test, bug fix and port.

The Calders will want their RoE. And the credits screen for Theatres of War will be interesting to read.

I'd agree with that...judging by the sheer amount of newbies in game since the lockdown began. Going by the comments in the game chat...they won't be around for long... if they haven't already refunded after their initial attempts to play :)

As for gamers, nobody is really interested in the rise and fall of Ci¬G nor Chrissie boy's history...to the majority of gamers outside of the space game genre, Chris Roberts might as well be a TV chef...some old dude that wrote a computer game once...which isn't far removed from the truth. Most of those casual drop in - drop out gamers new to Star Citizen will simply give it a try because they saw a cool video on YouTube, realise after a few minutes it's a broken mess and just move on to something else after getting their money back. ;)

The thing with the extremelly good alleged revenues for CIG so far this year is that the strike extends all the way to even before the lockdown really started in earnest. Even December and January are completely outy of whack already, unless we think microtech can do that on its own.

Damn, cheers for the info anyway

Ship sales...namely the Carrack, Mole and the new concept ships like the Kraken, Orion, Hercules starlifter and Prowler (since released) made up for a good bit of the income...as far as I can see anyway. The Carrack had a phenomenal uptake...the Mole is also very popular being strictly mid tier and a true multicrew ship with good credit earning possibilties in game and the $250 Orion concepts were snapped up in droves by the combat oriented folks when they appeared.

Ah, the sign of a true SC newb :D hoping for change or even <sputter> improvements within a months time. Oh sweet summer child ^^

I'd be punting for ToW to be the console port rather than any iteration of Sqn42...that's way too far off to be likely.

It probably doesn't help if those new players are reading spectrum or reddit and seeing criticism being countered with "its alpha, we're testers not players" and "maybe alpha isn't for you". Those new players might start asking themselves whether alpha is for them as well.

That kind of guff tends to be shouted down pretty quickly on Spectrum by most of the prominent posters...I'm sure all the traditional spouters of that nonsense have been chased off to reddit a fair while ago :D

Spectrum used to be a bit of an echo chamber...now, not so much. There's more negativity on there than Ci¬G and Turbulent can make posting rules up to get rid of I think...the discussions on here are a bit tame and balanced compared to Spectrum these days, the more scathing posts are consistently upvoted there a lot more than anywhere else it seems...says something ;)

Just eyed Spectrum and the first page seems quite on fire. Looks like we are getting to one of those lows in the cycle where CIG needs to offer a new shiney to break it. Presume Theaters of War will be that thing?

Fixing the damned game would be a good start...in it's current state, a new shiny ship wouldn't be well received outside of the Pokemon concierge lot. We all want to play but currently it takes a near herculean effort in patience to last longer than half an hour in 3.9...

It's a complete lottery whether you'll log in and immediately find yourself invisible, missing a head, missing a mobiglas, missing or duplicated ships at the ship terminals, ships falling through hangars or planets, spawned ships having no mass and floating around hangars like balloons full of static electricity, ships being blown away by planetary wind effects, falling through geometry on exiting or entering your ship, missing all your credits or all your equipment you've bought in game, trapped in a ship bed, lift or hangar unable to exit it, spawn in space near the sun with no ship, spawn inside a planet after logging in to a ship bed log out location, ships vanishing mid quantum jump leaving you floating in space... or a completely random combination of any or all of the former...or none...we haven't even got to the gameplay yet...

Some of those bugs have workarounds...if you can be bothered to read through 5,000 entries in the IC reports section on Spectrum or are lucky enough to find someone in game chat who knows them off by heart...
