Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

What is this thing with assuming he has some sort of agenda? Is it because it's SC or more that he irritated a few folk with his leaving ED dramatics? 🤷‍♂️

There is nothing really to assume. He has a book/writing business. Some of his core audience happens to be in the same market as Elite or SC video games and he has even expressed an interest in the possibility of SC related writing work. That writing business benefits from promotion and twitch streams seem like a good fit for it. He has promoted his business even in this forum in each and every post. And he also explicitly promotes it every time someone clicks in his Twitch page plus whenever he mentions it on screen obviously. I mean, it is not as if you can miss it. As mentioned above by others as well it is clear he does not really play neither SC nor Elite, not in any "serious" manner at least.

If you enjoy his content is a win/win though. I particularly liked his Salome shenanigans, directly linked to a book promotion. Nothing cynical or assumed in his agenda and nothing wrong with it. It is what it is. But not sure why some folks try so hard to ignore it 🤷‍♂️

Like in "10 years to not deliver ship's interiors" ?
Not really no, because FDEV has not yet sold such a DLC to anyone (unless you want to turn this thread into an Elite LEP discussion). On the other hand CIG has pre sold almost 500 millions for a game that has not been delivered 10+ years on.

Either way I can see you seem totally unable to have SC stand on its own merits and need to resort to another useless comparison.

You are the one talking about FDEV, not me. They never promised ship's interior in the kickstarter so why do you talk about them ?

The answer is still the same though:

I'm not as cynical about Drew...he plays games like a writer, namely being more interested in the lore, the created worlds and the story than he is about the gameplay. With regard to SC...he's hardly likely to just pop out a few game streams as a self advertisement and be invited into Ci¬G's writing team, nor do I suspect his involvement with SC is some form of self promotion. For one...I haven't heard him plugging any of his books during his SC streams.

Isn't it just possible that he's a sci-fi writer who just plays and enjoys games from the same genre he writes in...or is the fact he's slipped over to play and stream SC being viewed as some kind of petty betrayal now?

I'm not particularly a Drew fan by the way...never read any of his work, but I can't find reason to slate him for either enjoying and streaming his experiences in Star Citizen or for leaving ED behind in the way he did. He was a bit dramatic...but if I had to count the people who've posted some form of dramatic farewell on this forum over the years, I'd need an abacus 🤷‍♂️
Oh I'm not particularly cynical about him, re promoting himself. And there's nothing wrong with that.

It's certainly true he doesn't actually appear to play either game to any great extent, and it explains the untrue attack he's been repeating recently in his SC streams (EDO features melt away and don't exist at ground level) because that all comes from a single video from EDO release by an angry ex boyfriend of the forum.

The last few days have seen quite a few on this forum (frontier, not this thread) waxing lyrical about EDOs shortcomings, and the thread that ties them together is not having played it :)

(and yes, I'm a raging hypocrite, I don't play SC but here I am)

You are correct. Still don't understand why you immediatly see a FDEV reference in my sentence.

And presold ≠ funding. I've personnaly funded SC, and pre-bought Valheim, there is a big difference that you don't understand.

Now that some of you have spent pages badmouthing Drew Wager, can we spend a few pages diagnosing Thistle and his buddies? It seems like he sat on a cactus recently. I wonder what is wrong with him...

Or you could all just go back to demonizing Chris Roberts, at least that would be on topic ;)

@Old Duck

Before I forget, I'm pretty sure its still recommended that you install Star Citizen on its own separate SSD if you can, not your system drive, and to put the Windows page file on a third. It's gotten a bit of a reputation for trashing drives over the years...

You're just trying to scare me, LOL ;) Just teasing! But my laptop ain't no TARDIS (though ironically it can fit three drives).

I'm also probably in trouble because I disabled my page file ages ago when I upgraded to 32 GB. My system is way more stable since I've done that. I know, some expert will come in and tell me I'm wrong, but it works for me and the games I play.

I wonder if anyone has tried all these crazy tricks on Odyssey. If so, did it help?

The only thread I have seen about page files in the ED forums was a player who was having repeated crashes and had his page file disabled because he had a huge amount of ram. Went through all the usual stuff checking ram for errors, verifying his files etc, but one thing he refused to do was enable a page file because he "didn't need it" so we have no idea if that would have any effect. I'm not sure what the end result was or if he ever got it fixed because it fell off the bottom of the forums long ago.

That's totally fair (the idea that if you're getting crashes, try reenabling your page file). I would not at all be surprised if Star Citizen would likely require me to do just that. That said, if Star Citizen requires three SSDs and a giant page file just to run, then it's not a game I would be interested in actually buying. I'm definitely not going through all this trouble to just test it during a free fly. It'll work on my system or it won't, and if it doesn't, well thankfully I'm having more than enough fun in X4 and Space Engineers.

I do find it kinda funny that out of all the silly things people find to complain about in this thread, this three SSD requirement isn't one of them (unless that particular subject was lost in all the noise).

I am of the, if you don't try everything obvious first then you will spend days looking for obscure problems when it was the first thing mentioned, school. Just test it, if it makes no difference then go looking for other things less obvious.
