Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Yay another concern post...

Guy reckons CIG have sneakily put a cap of nearer 40 on the servers:

More positive citizens are suggesting players are just being dispersed more effectively across servers / that it's just a soft cap. But they're not contesting the idea that 40 seems to be the new normal. Interesting.

Haha

That's what server meshing is for.

Yeah, but they don't have server meshing, and the goal isn't to reduce each server to 40 when they have server meshing. The idea is there is still 50 per server group, because if not, they run into the same problem. What happens if all 50 people decide to go to the same area? SSM doesn't solve that. DSM won't either, unless they can get cross server communication going, so the old "you can shoot a bullet from one server and hit someone on another" actually becomes possible. But as far as i know, CIG have walked back on that, and DSM is now based on the idea of dynamic regions with instancing to stop too many people being on the same physical server.

This looks absolutely terrible, who would even consider any of this is acceptable ? Even 20 years ago, this would have been considered as a complete turd. Apart from the 3D assets there's nothing to save there.
It's not any better in the latest PTU build either... the umpteenth ship sale, n00b-fest ...err... free-fly of this year fast approacheth... and I can offer a fair bet that the marketing snakes will still push the patch out massively broken :censored:

Is it just me...or is all of this marketing nonsense this year starting to feel like a smattering of desperation to anyone else?

I'm not sure what you mean 🙃

We're in July and the Foundation Book Series Festival is only the 13th ship sale event in 2022.

Is an average of two ship sale events per month, accompanied by non-stop marketing and promotions, too high? :giggle:
