Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I know that was tongue in cheek but... I mean, if we go that route then no game, probably with only a handful of exceptions, escapes that logic. Most games exaggerate or take liberties in their promotional material in one way or another. Here the issue is that SC´s is likely orders of magnitude out of whack when compared with most games out there, up to and including not completely unreasonable considerations for potential fraud.
And if the target was Elite.. then I'm not sure that Frontier have done the best they can promoting it either.

back when i was still gobbling down the kool-aid I bought ships after each trailer, however when the reality finally kicked in I filed for a refund in 2014 and got all 3k USD back, never looked back, I was then banned and locked out for good.
3K is insane. I'm glad you got it all back. Is that type of amount a common one for a long-time backer? Would anyone else who's backed the game care to share their amount invested?

What's your thought on the prospect of Star Citizen's development? Where do you see it going?

Why the ban? It's not like a multi-million dollar company would be bitter after a measly $3,000 refund.
Standard Ci~G practise after a refund. It's not a ban per se, just the deletion of the account....supposedly ;)

After refunding in 2016 and buying back in during 2018, a request to Ci~G's concierge support to simply reactivate my previous account rather than create a new one was denied stating that my previous account including email address and user name had been 'locked'. If that isn't banning accounts, what is? :)

During the mass exodus late 2016-2017 before they shut the door on refunds, it wasn't a matter of Ci~G losing a mere couple of grand here and there. Between myself and my 6 mates who refunded in the same month, that alone amounted to nearly $100k in lost funding...and we weren't the only high level backers to chuck in the towel by any means. Ci~G were hemorrhaging cash at a frightening rate 🤷‍♂️

My own level of insanity is no secret...since I've mentioned it here often enough. 🤷‍♂️

Original account: Wing Commander ($10k+. Refunded)
Present account: Grand Admiral ($2.5k+)

The majority of long term backers don't spend large sums all at once...but $60-150 on average here and there during ship sales or spending on cosmetics like ship paints or monthly subscriptions over a period of years makes for a lot of concierge level backers.

I remember CIG making refinds a lot harder. They're not refusing to refund now are they? At least in teh UK that would be against the law.
It's just more difficult to get a refund, not impossible. It mostly requires threats of the application of EU or UK consumer laws, or the actual process of a small claims court action to get a refund these days.

Most of us who are in will stay in though. There has always been a steady trickle of backers over the years who for a variety of reasons... mostly due to changing financial or life cirumstances like marriage, kids, mortgages etc... will pull out and refund, but in the main, those of us who are reasonably fiscally responsible folks and who can generally afford to write off the funding amount...we may be unhappy with Ci~G and we're done spending, but will generally stick with what we've put in 🤷‍♂️

UK seems to have the most robust consumer protections, going by the refund sub's advice:

Most international guys who comment there seem to end up going the grey market route, from what I've seen. CIG definitely don't seem to refund easily after the 30 days at any rate, not for larger accounts anyway.

Wait a minute!!!!

Is CIG telling me that the only 2 bugs they had fixed really aren't fixed?

I mean, in this new PTU patch people can't get out of the seats of the ships again, and the ASOP (great rewriting) terminals can again become non-functional?

A big round of applause for CIG, please!

Just what I was saying the other day; either they are liars, or they are incompetent, or I don't understand video game development....
