Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I would like to think there is a finite end to this nonsense, but I'm not convinced even Roberts popping his clogs won't stop the faithful throwing money at this wreck

Just imagine how much CIG could milk Roberts' death for!

Roberts themed merch. Roberts themed ship skins. Hell, even a new ship named after him, selling for thousands of dollars. Plus the marketing and appeals to the faithful to keep backing, in memory of Chris. "Chris had a dream, but didn't live to see it! Will you answer the call and make sure that Chris' dream comes true?!"

I think funding would go through the roof!

Remember, not everyone taking part during Xenothreat is flying a ship ;)

...There are many turret gunners who volunteer to spend all 3 phases in a turret rather than turn up in their own ships, or folks who spend the entirety of phase 2 transferring cargo from the Starfart wrecks onto waiting ships, how were they supposed to get paid?... Except for perhaps relying entirely on the good will of some completely random dude flying a ship to pay them out of goodness of their hearts...Or what happens if the ship you're in is refuelling or rearming, or gets destroyed and you're sitting at a station when the phase completes?

The global reward system on completion of each phase was to encourage everyone to take part, regardless. All you had to do was turn up at a certain station and sign up. You may scoff at the idea...but for the first time ever in a multiplayer game, myself and many others actually witnessed and took part with an entire server population working towards one end, cooperating to complete 3 differing phases of an online event...not by turning up in fancy ships but actively just turning up, ship or no ship....and it worked.

I never had an empty turret in my Tali bomber during my first XT, nor did I ever have to leave the cockpit of my MSR in order to load up with cargo to complete phase 2, there were endless volunteers willing to specialise or just fill an empty turret in a random ship just to take part.

My second XT, I spent the entire event in the turret of @Intrepid3D 's Cutty Black :)

However...now on it's umpteenth iteration... it's just plain boring

Its great that it encourages people to participate, however, you don't have to actually participate. You don't need to man a turret, you can sit in a bar drinking coffee (assuming the bartender works and the coffee doesn't kill you) and not actually do anything towards the goal, and still get rewarded. That's the funny part.

Until multicrew and resource management are in serious work is probably not going to happen. So, maybe 5 to 10 years.

Optimist!

Hmm... they think it would have changed in some way? Graphics updated? To be honest, i'd love to see some actual SQ42 gameplay footage, and not scripted cut scenes.

So many questions.

Why is 'dinosaur vocalization' a top search term for my VR vid?

What makes the new generation of $50 zealots so convinced that the missteps of the past won't be repeated?

Is this guy for real...?

There is no point arguing. These people have 0 idea about game dev. Just remember and cherish this as an “I told you so” moment when you’re enjoying squadron 42 in your index.
I bet every doubter in this sub will be Eating their words when SQ42 releases with VR support.

And yet, even given the nature of human beings let loose in a multiplayer game...XT didn't quite work out like that. We even had some random dudes doing logistics in global chat fer goodness sake. "We don't need any more green boxes, load the next ships up with blue...or the stuff that explodes if the ship QT's, nobody likes trucking them."

It's easy to find fault with everything Ci~G does, sometimes a lot harder to give a bit of a nod when stuff doesn't start and end with falling through the planet when you get out of a bunk ;)

Nodding is for old ppl in comfy chairs.

Yes, yes it is. And regardless of even if the whole server every single time joins in, remember, this is the time of those who are passionate about SC, and for some, its still fresh, but when SC releases (if ever), you're going to get a wide range of people, and you can bet plenty would leech away. Expect a DtEA video on how to make money AFKing during Xenothreat post-release.

I like this comment:

I couldn’t agree with you more.
I’m just waiting for the day at some unforeseen point in the future where Star Citizen is announced as, “in development” and they’re going to just keep developing it as long as it has support. No alpha, no betas, no releases because the game will never be complete(but never complete spun into a positive light). Just a continual march towards the kickstarter goals and once those are reached, into all new ones — “never complete”
Some spiel(CR already did this in some letter) about how you can already do more in star citizen than in any other game to date, and just how advanced and difficult the technology is to develop, so they’ll continue to strive for the vision as long as it’s shared and supported by the player base.
And SOONER rather than later insurance will be implemented and turned on. It will be balanced perfectly where it’s a grind to get ships in game and then maintain insurance on them will be extra to the point that just buying them with cash is very attractive.
