Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I wouldn't say I'm widely known for praising or defending Ci~G for any reason whatsoever...but XT as an event... initially... was pretty good 🤷‍♂️
Did a few runs in my Retaliator with manned turrets too. It was OK for the time the server stayed alive and until the restock / repair bug stranded me. Shows there's something to be done for this kind of cooperative multiplayer games - maybe someone will notice.

I'll point out there was a lot of wasted time waiting for the "dynamic event" to respawn (because of course it was reset like an hour or so after the end of previous event) and server hopping to get one that was not crashed. Then a lot of fumbling around to get people to man turrets.

Also I didnt fail to notice they put that even next to a space station in order to cut down on player spawn times + public transport + spaceport take off etc.

As for payment, you get paid a lot more depending on damage done to red ships. S9 torpedo hits on the Idris were worth a lot of virtual $$ (and paid for the torp maybe 10 times over). So it's not a blind divide of a lump sum between all participants, there's also a factor of contribution.

Yes, yes it is. And regardless of even if the whole server every single time joins in, remember, this is the time of those who are passionate about SC, and for some, its still fresh, but when SC releases (if ever), you're going to get a wide range of people, and you can bet plenty would leech away. Expect a DtEA video on how to make money AFKing during Xenothreat post-release.

Ok 🤷‍♂️

A sign of SC's quality IMO ;)

The complete works of Shakespeare can be downloaded, it is 5 megabytes. Star Citizen uses TWICE that amount of data EVERY SECOND for my character to GET OUT OF A CHAIR.

The whole rant is a fun read...

Brings this guy's Xeno analysis to mind...

Some Saturday reading, from the guy who brought you SC server and network performance case study: XenoThreat v2

I believe the takeaways are:

  • If SC hits its target of 30hz for the server tick, bandwidth requirements would be obscene as things stand.
  • Classic bandwidth reduction strategies (ignoring distant ships) not in evidence.
  • Xeno took them hard up to the 85kb-per-tick cap
  • Spawning items seems to be notably inefficient (see the box spawning for Destroy the Drugs missions).

Now this analogy in that reddit thread made perfect sense to me...all the rest of the complicated stuff...not so much

Server is big monkey throwing bananas at all the little monkeys.
Big monkey is throwing whole banana trees right now and the little monkeys are stunned and not happy.
Big monkey needs to throw only a few bananas but more often then the little monkeys will be happy and party all day.

Bah, dynamic server meshing will deal with that in [current year + 2]. You need to keep up.

Hah...

Maybe the game needs a disclaimer that broadband internet isn't necessarily going to be fast enough to play star citizen in the future.

Waiting for CIG to partner with an ISP and router manufacturer to offer SC branded routers and connection via CitizenNet for the ultimate SC experience!

but I know for a fact Starfield will not deliver me the game that i want in SC

Neither will SC

In 5 minutes of SC gameplay right now, you'll encounter vastly more depth and fidelity under the surface than in any other game ever made

They really do live in their own bubble of reality.

It's easy to find fault with everything Ci~G does, sometimes a lot harder to give a bit of a nod when stuff doesn't start and end with falling through the planet when you get out of a bunk ;)
I think the devs are genuinely trying to make a good game. it's the complete lack of direction and mismanagement that is hampering them. Occasionally they will manage to sneak something good in
