Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

But didn't they have to build the tools to build the tools first? How can one even start to develop a game without creating the universe first?
I think I understand now, Star Citizen's simulation is so real that they are developing Big Bang tech to kickstart the universe so to be sure that there is ultimate persistence to provide real metrics when factoring the economic / material dynamics over a real period of game time that exists in accordance with spatial/physical/electromagnetic/gravitational relationships, which are needed to fulfill the Idris orders, which by the way, have you ordered one yet?

edit: Ninja'd on the treadmill joke. I'm so old and slow.

Its not a marathon. A marathon has a finish line.
It's a tatty 10 year old treadmill

The problem with making faithful believers is, sometimes they wake up from the dream and realize they've been believing in a load of twaddle, and they've been deceived, and then they get mad, real mad.

I like the comment after this one: "Edit that post now to add 'in Minecraft" saying "..or dinner".. I mean, how long do you think Roberts would keep your waiting for your meal? I'm now imagining him as a chef..

So I really hope it goes the way of Freelancer: CI starts losing money, someone decides to buy the disperse scraps of both games CI managed to develop in the last twelve years, tells Chris and his clan to step the love back, wraps up the production in two to three years, leaving us with somewhat playable Wing Commander 42 and whatever can be salvaged* in a working condition from that online multiplayer demo thingy.

*salvage T1 confirmed!

But what could possibly be salvaged? A wobbly Crysis mod with never-been-done-before “tech” that doesn’t function?

The ‘Verse fluff? Deep and meaningful lore? Please - the “verse” is so pitifully poor it pains me. I’ve read deeper and more meaningful lore on a can of furniture polish.

Hardware assets? If it’s more than 36 months old it’s e-waste, and Genuine Roberts has been selling us jpegs for a long, long time.

The customer base? Perhaps - just invent a new shiny jpeg collector game! And take over a decade to not deliver it.

I hate this idea. It's giving Chris Roberts more money and the epitomy of failing uupwards.

It'll probably slither alongas it is now covering employee cuts by outsourcing work to other studios while adding their size to muber of CIG employees. When was the last time we heard anything about the other studios under CIG umprella?
I'm surprised they hadn't announced CIG Shanghai, probably can't skirt Chinese laws the way they could in the West.

Depends on how much they completed for WC42. Maybe there is enough there, just like there were enough scraps to turn them into Freelancer. When it comes to the online thingy, idk, maybe at least the Arena mode and some instanced (max 10 players), single starless system coop sandbox with randomly generated quests? Maybe it could be actually cut back into something reliably playable, were it simplified. Would it be fun? How should I know? I have no access to that hypothetical game that maybe could be.

Well, none of us know how much of SQ404 was “completed”, or what states it’s been in over the years.

However, we’ve been able to glean a couple of things from the Morrow Tour, the alleged script leak, the “mistake build” that apparently had some developers entire local OS environment, the various INMDB entries, the Crytek issue, the ramblings from various CI-G executives, the mocap stories, etc. Whilst truly giggleicious, none of it has been real proof of anything other than CI-G claim to have worked on a product, and it is still nowhere to be found.

If the project were to faceplant into bankruptcy tomorrow - I will be first in line to purchase the IP rights to SQ404 and unleash it in it’s full majesty as a point and pay mobile card collection jpeg gathering simulator that aims to be the most obnoxious monstrosity ever.
