Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Wen't to visit the "other games" section of Spectrum, wondering if they are talking about Odyssey, and they aren't at all apart from an old post about ED getting bartenders.

But did find this about Cyberpunk being delayed again... and they seem to be happy about it. I find this rather funny, since its not even the same genre. But there again, anything that looks bad is used to make SC look less bad.

Of course, someone spouts scripture...

Bolding mine. Ah, i remember how people were saying similar things years ago. I wonder whether those people shifted the goalposts or actually gave up on waiting.

Someone counters that horse manure with a lengthy post and part of it is...

Indeed.

Then they get into a long back and forth similar to what we recently had with LittleAnt.

The saddest thing about this thing is they are going to make a boatload of money from this.

People won't think "Let's wait for release, let's see if the game releases, let's see if its decent and worth giving more money to CIG, and then i will actually earn the ship for free as well!"

Nope, they will think "Great, another ship for the collection, also means won't have to grind for it when the game (the best damn game ever) is released (surely in the next few years, it must be close now). Totally not pay to win of course. And anyway, i'm only buying ships to support the development, not for any other reason... no sireee!"

Go on Jorunn, tell the rest of the story. That they are still years away from doing any of that. That they haven't shown they are capable of doing any of this. That most likely they haven't even given much thought to what the hell people will do with their own bases or what the point of them will be, other than some wavy hands and ramblings from CR, interspersed with the word fidelity over and over again.

This is what I tend to think. They know it's impossible to release the game fully, so they work on aspects of it, put it in, try things out. But what you'll notice over time is that they never have a lot going on at once, because it's impossible. A solution would be to break it up into modules, in some way, but then that would be admitting defeat at those lofty prospects they've promised they can achieve. If CiG said they've found it impossible to do what they hoped to, and are changing their outlook, that'd be understandable.

Yeah I try and track down stuff that’s been removed completely from the live build, as that speaks to some of their struggles. It’s hard to tease it all out from 8 years of carnage, but some stuff I’m aware of is:

There are probably tons other bits and pieces where they either hit a tech wall or just decided to rework some AAA assets entirely. But those are a few I've stumbled onto.

There's also temporary stuff like R&R sites getting culled for a while (speaking to their general 'can't fit any more in' struggles to build out the solar system). And item tracking issues, like items losing their interactability over time (to allow for the next Pico toy to get its time to shine, or whatever).

(And god, if we were to list all the things shown in Citcon demos that still haven't made it into the game, it'd be a massive list of 'nope' 😄)

I genuinely think they're still trying to make the best, biggest game they possibly can.

I just think they're massively struggling on most fronts. And certainly can't fulfil on the full big picture pitch...

Not even one Pico at a time ;)

Hard to believe that Star Citizen (2011~2 to ????) has now been in development for 3 console generations and 3 different US presidents. Duke Nukem Forever (1996~7 to 2011) has it tied, spanning 3 console generations and 3 US presidents (Clinton, Bush, Obama). No other studio developed, retail game has come close to touching this, I believe.

C'mon Star Citizen, go for number one!

I'm still marauding around Mercia...Sandvik will have to wait :D
While you're at it...next to the lack of decent loot, have you noticed a disappointing variety of character advancement? As in in the words UNECESSARY GRIND which was the formula used in Mafia 3?

I'm starting to get that weird sense of deja vu. Explore an area. Fight all the gangs errr, Angles/Saxons/Picts that get in your way. Make friends with others. Conquer said area/territory regardless. Place a raven on the map. Rinse and repeat.

Don't get me wrong. I'm enjoying maraudering, rapping (yes spelling deliberate), pillaging, looting aka basically #REKTing the English countryside. But the whole explore-scavenge-fight-conquer game loop/dynamic is becoming increasingly contrived. Like the game design was to purposefully force your PC to keep leveling up with side quests/exploration to a certain legendary/master XP level. At which point it begins to prod you to take up the MQ again. Which is exactly what happened in Origins, Odyessey and yes, Mafia 3.

Wondering if that's been your experience as well? I'm currently at lvl 43 and now considering ignoring all game suggestions NOT to continue with MQ. Just waltz right into the nearest over powered zone/MQ area and go postal on the higher level NPCs there. Something tells me Eivor would win :p

Other than that, I'm really enjoying this historic rendition of the AC universe so far. I especially like base building and fact Ubi appears to have learned from their failures free running/climbing/navigating outdoors since AC 3. Free running in trees and basic navigation in the woods was a nightmare with Connor back in AC3

Visionary Leader Chris Roberts will never give up, he won't concede like FUDsters demand, the UEE presidential vote went as he wanted, the media is in the pocket of AAA publishers and print biased lies against him, and his loyal supporters are happy to continue giving him money to fund the continued campaign.
