Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

...I genuinely think they're still trying to make the best, biggest game they possibly can.
I just think they're massively struggling on most fronts. And certainly can't fulfil on the full big picture pitch...

Very much my feeling too, although anyone who knew of Genuine Cobblers' track record will probably not be surprised.

From the outside the project gives the impression that there is no strategic or even tactical thinking going on at the management level, and that they are incapable of seeing, let alone planning for, the big picture (of delivering a game). There are too many examples of this, so broadly I'll just point to their almost perpetual missing of announced delivery dates and of whole deliveries simply never arriving.

Cobblers was right about one thing though: after two or three years things do get stale.

Buy an Idris.

Funding has been dipping a bit recently. I guess people are saving their pennies for the upcoming event.

Anyone want to make any predictions on how many millions they will make during the sale?

I'm going to go with 3 million.

A fool and his money are soon parted.

Not everyone is amused.

Also.... erm...

The things they say are positive are a bit strange, like the transparency, when CIG are less and less transparent as time goes on, focusing on the trivial and doing the Ostritch when it comes to major things.

And...

The concept and overall design goals that CIG have for the game are new, innovative and exciting at scale.

New? Derivative.

Go on Jorunn, tell the rest of the story. That they are still years away from doing any of that. That they haven't shown they are capable of doing any of this. That most likely they haven't even given much thought to what the hell people will do with their own bases or what the point of them will be, other than some wavy hands and ramblings from CR, interspersed with the word fidelity over and over again.
He's just another scam artist on the payroll.

It's lying on grand scale. Do it enough and some start believing. Cultist behaviour, though we are accustomed to see it everyday on twitter. Lies, shaming and public turd-flinging. The age of social media.

It's hilarious how every citizen who complains about some feature of the game, has to begin their post by affirming their faith in all things Crobber. They do this thinking it will fend off the inevitable torrent of abuse of the white knights. It never works. :ROFLMAO:

That is not a genuine SC thing. I see that all the time. It's become kind of a memetic trope in forums. Bonuspoints if they're veterans and fathers and whathaveyou useless litanies they tack onto their prime posts.

While you're at it...next to the lack of decent loot, have you noticed a disappointing variety of character advancement? As in in the words UNECESSARY GRIND which was the formula used in Mafia 3?

I'm starting to get that weird sense of deja vu. Explore an area. Fight all the gangs errr, Angles/Saxons/Picts that get in your way. Make friends with others. Conquer said area/territory regardless. Place a raven on the map. Rinse and repeat.

Don't get me wrong. I'm enjoying maraudering, rapping (yes spelling deliberate), pillaging, looting aka basically #REKTing the English countryside. But the whole explore-scavenge-fight-conquer game loop/dynamic is becoming increasingly contrived. Like the game design was to purposefully force your PC to keep leveling up with side quests/exploration to a certain legendary/master XP level. At which point it begins to prod you to take up the MQ again. Which is exactly what happened in Origins, Odyessey and yes, Mafia 3.

Wondering if that's been your experience as well? I'm currently at lvl 43 and now considering ignoring all game suggestions NOT to continue with MQ. Just waltz right into the nearest over powered zone/MQ area and go postal on the higher level NPCs there. Something tells me Eivor would win :p

Other than that, I'm really enjoying this historic rendition of the AC universe so far. I especially like base building and fact Ubi appears to have learned from their failures free running/climbing/navigating outdoors since AC 3. Free running in trees and basic navigation in the woods was a nightmare with Connor back in AC3

Yeah, "Ubisoft" is it's own genre, basically. Run around, fight the people climb the thing to unlock an area map, rinse/repeat. You can have it in first (FarCry) or third (AssCreed) person view and get a differently skinned version every couple of years. Plenty of people buy them too...

Something that CIG can only dream of (as I needed to get back on topic).

Some of the responses are funny.

Someone actually claiming CR didn't make a promise when he said this:

This one's my favourite:
You should tell me that game take time yes but we are not immortal

Honest reviews. Dontcha just love 'em? I've never found the queues for dishonest reviews to be all that long.

Stumbled on this great 'state of the game' post again, and it's worth a repost:

The TLDR is: Fundamental features like boxes, boarding, and crime & punishment are all essentially broken. Throw in the sketchiness of peripheral features like scanning & cargo, and trying to hook your gameplay to any of these features is a lesson in frustration.

Nothing has changed on those fronts in the last 9 months, AFAIK.

It's just a comically compelling discussion of how everything from fundamental game features to frivolous extras are still deeply compromised.

Bonus TLDR: He still managed to do piracy. Just via the power of bugs ;)
