New big money concept ship coming soon

unknown.png

There's only been one other one this year. The bird ship, and it is supposed to come into the game next month.

And one concept car. CIG really slacking off on the concepts this year!

Slacking compared to previous years, but i'd kind of hoped they understood the need to stop doing this... but silly me, JPG sales win!

From Miribot, source i think is Spectrum.

You're speaking as if they have no internal JIRA and that they're incapable of tracking their tasks. You're pretending as if 2016 was a deadline that publishers were enforcing. Welcome to the reason that Chris Roberts asked the crowd for pledges for.

What they're working on is a way to display their JIRA tasks to the public that minimizes the kind of spin trolls can put onto it. That's not just a push button task that you can tell photoshop to generate out a UI for and plug it into dreamweaver and hit publish. Tool development is much more involved than that and they're trying to create a public facing tool here.

Also at the same time there is still the whole game to make. It's easy to be an arm chair critic and call them incompetent when you have no idea of the work they're doing.

Really, if that is the main reason for the delay for the roadmap, or even a consideration in designing the roadmap (as opposed to providing the promised transparency), then perhaps its time for CIG to reevaluate what they are doing.

I'm sure this poster is of course just talking out of their rear end, that their obsession with "trolls" is causing them to project onto what CIG are doing.

And...

Their job is to create a persistent virtual universe. Part of that is developing a culture. Part of developing a culture means mitigating what trolls can and can't do. It's basic community building.

There is some extreme language here that is inaccurate. You suggest that they aren't informing backers what they are doing. This is incorrect. The goal of the new roadmap is to better inform people so that there is less confusion, as caused by trolls using inaccurate language. Currently, trolls are suggesting to people that the only things being developed are what's on the roadmap, despite RSI's repeated communications to the contrary.

More obsessing over "trolls". Again, its really something if trolls are affecting how you do development. CR must not have thick skin. I also love how they basically are saying the most open development company ever isn't that open and they hide things from their backers (which we know anyway, eg: ToW in development for 8 months before they told backers about it).

The whole problem is over most of a decade we've seen the work they are doing and it just shows what an incompetent project lead Chris Roberts is. He's blown hundreds of million dollars in a tremendously irresponsible fashion with no cohesive vision and precious little strategy. He doesn't have the ability to roll with the punches and come up with solutions on the fly. Things are always discarded hideously still-born, months and years of effort wasted.

It's the classic LA "throw money at the problem" way that results in so many entertainment atrocities.

That said, he sure has been pretty quiet of late. I wonder how much sulking and seething he did this year. Those posts he did hint at it.

The battle is over and we - PC gamers, space sim fans, WingNuts, Lancers and the rest - have won. You've not only met every goal we set, you've exceeded them. Star Citizen will be released because of your dedication and your willingness to put your money where our mouths are. Our gratitude is immeasurable; we owe you our livelihoods and will not soon forget it.

The question is: what happens next?

Our intention has always been to make Roberts Space Industries YOUR site. It's not a public advertisement for the game; it's a private community for those who are making the game happen. We want your input on what we're doing and we want to share our plans with you; the occasional passer-by doesn't concern us. The plan was initially to immediately switch on a wall that would allow only you, our backers, to access features like the Comm-Link and the Spectrum Dispatches. Kickstarter has thrown something of a wrench in this plan: we can't change the site until the Kickstarter backers are integrated, which may take up to two weeks, otherwise we would be blocking thousands of backers from participating.
Updates and features will continue, returning to a regular schedule in the next few days. The team needs a few days to collect ourselves and reform before jumping into the immense task ahead (after the last month, our husbands, wives, children and yes, pets, miss us!) We will also be launching new sections which have been in the works for some time: the Galactapedia will tell you more about the Star Citizen world, Engineering will introduce you to game mechanics that are being planned and Holovids will offer you video footage from the game as it takes shape.

What about pledges?

Good news: those of you who got in on the ground floor are covered. Your ships have lifetime insurance policies and for the next year you will have the ability to purchase further tiers or upgrade existing ones at the initial prices. That's not true of everyone else: if you want to back Star Citizen and participate in this amazing community, you still can. but it's going to cost you a little extra as of now, and you aren't going to have as many extras (no lifetime insurance, for example.)

One issue which concerns us is what to do with the funding tracker. So we're going to throw the issue up to you: in two weeks, when the wall goes up, what do you want to see done with the tracker? Without the 'push' of the campaign it probably won't update very dramatically. but it's always possible it will go up enough to reach future stretch goals anyway. Should we keep it, remove it or put it somewhere else? We'll let the community decide.

We also have previously outlined the 'behind the screens' subscription plans available now. They're designed for users who simply want to give us a little extra support during the development - you're getting the whole story, regardless - but we will have some extra fun for our monthly contributors.
We can't thank you enough for everything you've done for this project. Please see the next update on 'The Pledge' for our promise to you. The next two years are going to be incredible for all involved and we're thoroughly happy that all of you are along for this exciting ride.

Ah, the good old days, when backers still thought they were getting a released product by 2016 at the latest, and anyone saying 2018 or later was shouted down as being a hater and FUDster.

Good times.

So much "win".

Still, that was 2012, so a faithful backer might point to the votes where CR offered to expand the scope (although he claimed it would not delay release), but then, even 2014 backers and CIG were still proclaiming release wasn't far away, despite the massively increased scope.

Actually, a lot of people have preordered. I have and my son has. However, you should know the risk is all on you when you preorder. Some SC backers seem to assume there is no risk, that given enough time, CR will deliver on all their dreams, even if it takes another 10 or 20 years... but don't worry, because CR has promised it won't take another 10 or 20 years.

Okay, I stand corrected. My main point still stands, though: a) those do not run to thousands of dollars, and in these cases, the risk is minor. Pay with credit card, get the money back. Good luck with CRobberts and that... :)
