Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

im sure they will be hiding in solo mode. there is no main competitor.
Imagine if CIG kept their word and enabled private servers. It's as far away as being the "MMO" they pretend to be with 50 man Battlefield servers that barely manages to stay up for more than a couple of hours. Patiently waiting for the jesus tech that will enable glorious battles in orbit over ArcCorp with dozens of Idris' and fighters duking it out.

Some people believe every video game should only be PvP.

These players create a toxic atmosphere for the games they play. In games with multiple mechanics, they attempt to impose PvP on everyone. Star Citizen piles on the pain by selling $3,000 ships, attracting the worst of the worst of them.

These people are not well and should seek help.

I think they are the perfect fit for Star Citisn't.

(Those rats could feast on grain storage and some got very big...)

Surely thats not on topic.....oh I see.....yes an analogy :)

It says there are 91 systems in the Star Map, which is probably true. It does not go on to say that they aren't actually in the game, which is somewhat misleading.

Fear not, you will be able to purchase the Star Map of the Future very shortly for the low low price of $39.99. It will show all of the systems you can visit in the game, number unconfirmed, but your imagination can go wild with what may be out there. Starmap is only available in game as a jpeg to put on the Hangar wall.

Like casu marzu.
Simply teh best. I'm glad we have men (and women, of course) with superior taste among us.

I just want to say you two are truly horrible people and casu marzu should be forbidden by the Geneva Convention. Foulest weapon of mass regurgitation conceived by humanity.

(It literally means "rotten cheese" in Sardinian, and I'm told the live worms in it have a high protein value. Oh and they jump away, too.)

Ignoring that only one is in game
91 Systems on the Map of Known Space, with the remainder those ones people are supposed to find, or be introduced later.

I am sure you'll remember reading spectrum threads of people dreaming of being the one to discover and name a new system, charting the jump points etc.

That is the place the 91 to 110 live.

Plus probably where the Kr'Thak live as Xian wont share those maps with the UEE

At which point speed and determination come into play to beat the competition because I assume those unexplored systems can only be found and named ONCE so "the race is on".

People taking vacation and being on 24/7 with empty bottles and bowls nearby having organized food runs by family members or friends is pretty much a given in this scenario. We all know what internet fame makes people do. So if you cannot do any of these things dont even bother dreaming. I m sure ED has a few million systems available tho if you truly want that digital plate of honor.

Oooooor. Bypass all the ramp-up time trying to get that ship, that engine, that module that anything to make your ship better than the rest of the pack raising your chances at the prize. For the low low prize of X real life dollars you can start out with a fully decked out ship, perfectly suited to your needs. Due to the incredible multiplayer mechanics (never been done before) you can even PAY other players to hinder and slow down your competition (PayPal and similar services accepted)....woohooo..whats not to like? I can imagine monetization examples where a whole group of players find and secure one of these systems to ebay it for 6digit dollars to anybody who is rich enough but doesnt have the "mettle" to do it him-/herself.

Even the dreams in Star Citizen scream "Pay to win" by now......

Possible. Even tho private servers are dead right now (as far as the community knows...) it wouldnt be the first time CIG released a surprise they ve been working on for upwards to a year without telling anybody or come out to announce that whatever you are waiting for is already released and ingame.

It comes down to people really. It seems there is a large percentage of players who dream of pwning and roflstomping everybody like lv 1 orc peons and people getting aggrevated because they cant fight back which of course is the icing on top of the pro-cake. "No dude, I m just BETTER than you are, your mom said so too" are probably wild fantasies spooling in many Fortnite player brains each morning before they leave house for ̶k̶̶i̶̶n̶̶d̶̶e̶̶r̶̶g̶̶a̶̶r̶̶t̶̶e̶̶n̶ work.

And while there can be great matches to be had in PvP the majority (and I dont even need to check statistics for this...) of participants cheats, bots or cant be arsed and plays like lobotomized monkeys all the while lashing out at anybody who kills them, plays better than them, steals their kills, takes their loot etc etc. The reason doesnt really matter. People dont play well with each other for long durations of time. Its bad enough if you have group and PvP areas seperated from the main game but if PvP is the only possible activity.....its going to become a cesspool of toxicity quickly. Often enough all you are looking for is an opportunity to vent your frustration or get rid of the anxiety you accumulated over the day. PvE content is perfect for this. Even tho it makes all the AI-revolts-and-kills-all-humans stories very understandable all of a sudden. Anyway, if you are looking for any of these things and play a PvP game...well. I m sure everybody will have TONS of fun :)

Personally, if companies would ve decided some time ago that all games need to be PvP only I simply would ve stopped buying video games and stay with what I have available.

The motivations to play multiplayer or competitive games are manyfold but more of them are bad or detrimental than good. And it shows in the average match and player behavior/performance.

Never before have I been arroused and turned off that quickly by a single sentence.....ugh

Surely the only place the map jpeg will hang is inside an Idris? (Scam big, or go home ;) )

I picked it for a reason, after all…

To blatantly archer a post from somewhere else:
For those of you just getting into Star Citizen please be aware of the following trouble areas with a higher-than-normal bug rate:

Logging in
Getting out of bed
Getting on or off of trains
Summoning elevators
Purchasing food for survival mechanics
Negotiating staircases
Climbing or descending ramps
Spawning your ship
Finding your ship
Entering your ship
Walking around your ship without randomly dying
Launching your ship from a closed hangar
Accepting missions
Traveling literally anywhere
Completing missions
Purchasing cargo
Selling cargo
Picking up individual boxes of cargo
Forming a group
Finding your group
Performing any sort of group activity whatsoever including standing motionlessly in someone else's spaceship
Staying connected to the game for longer than 15 minutes

Just avoid doing any of these and you, too, can have the time of your life in the BDSSE!
The disconnect between the faithful and the new people they're trying to bring in is that the old-timers have already internalised the special chicken-waggle tip-toe dance needed to not run into these issues and have long since forgotten all the normal things a normal player would expect a normal game to be able to do without issue. :p

There is no "unexplored systems" in SC for what I know. All systems on the Starmap are known and been explored.
"Exploration" in SC is about finding dynamic POI/missions/spot in the known systems.
Discovering new system like in ED might not be possible in SC.

More accurately: there are no “unexplored systems” in SC. All systems on the Starmap do not exist, including the one that the entire “universe” consists of (since that one is not an actual representation of what the system is supposed to be).

When you say "dynamic" do you mean procedurally generated, or hand crafted?

Like this guy who thinks losing 80% of the playerbase is good for Star Citizen, he calls it "The culling"

Yes, I just give lore info.

The only moments when CIG had talked about exploration was when they talked about the Quantum system which should handle all procedurally generated POI/missions. I haven't heard CIG talking about hand crafted exploration missions.
For what I know, exploration is mainly about finding temporary jump points, derelicts/ruins and mining points.

I know CIG wants also to make big hand crafted events but I don't know if those events might require exploration.
