Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

What you doing here? Dont you know theres an AMA with at least 4 CMs going on!?

Honestly? Why bother. All CM's answers will be along the lines of "nothing to say at this point" or "Good idea, we may look at it". The likely hood of any actual information being given out is on par with SC hitting full Alpha any time soon.

Like this guy who thinks losing 80% of the playerbase is good for Star Citizen, he calls it "The culling"

SC sucking is good for SC. Mere mortals don't deserve SC.

but CIG and true citizens deserve their money. By the way this reminds me of this eye opener I mentioned back in june 2019 (a time where a certain SaltE was less SaltE but more Twerk and actually salty)

The whole vid about Twerk raising concerns is interesting, but this excerpt at 10:00 is awesome: we can see back in 2015 Chris answering a question about UEC sales being enough to fund post-release.

And the Visionnaire's answer is he hopes UEC, game packages will be enough but if it doesn't, he assumes that, given the content of SC when it's finished "people play dumbass y'know mobile whatever Clash o' Clans, stuff like that" will be prone to answer the call and spend tons of money and you dear backers will be grateful for them to pay the bills!

And everybody to laugh and applause. Like alive turkeys mocking the thanksgiving turkey frying on the other side of the kitchen.

The main concern seems SC could be P2W but the real problem that everything Twerk exposes is that it's a Make People Pay And Never Release

At which point speed and determination come into play to beat the competition because I assume those unexplored systems can only be found and named ONCE so "the race is on".

People taking vacation and being on 24/7 with empty bottles and bowls nearby having organized food runs by family members or friends is pretty much a given in this scenario. We all know what internet fame makes people do. So if you cannot do any of these things dont even bother dreaming. I m sure ED has a few million systems available tho if you truly want that digital plate of honor.

Oooooor. Bypass all the ramp-up time trying to get that ship, that engine, that module that anything to make your ship better than the rest of the pack raising your chances at the prize. For the low low prize of X real life dollars you can start out with a fully decked out ship, perfectly suited to your needs. Due to the incredible multiplayer mechanics (never been done before) you can even PAY other players to hinder and slow down your competition (PayPal and similar services accepted)....woohooo..whats not to like? I can imagine monetization examples where a whole group of players find and secure one of these systems to ebay it for 6digit dollars to anybody who is rich enough but doesnt have the "mettle" to do it him-/herself.

Even the dreams in Star Citizen scream "Pay to win" by now......

Oh god, i could totally see CIG/Turbulent doing that. Best buy the big ships and buy credits in the store for when they add the undiscovered systems!

Doesn't matter if you have the required spec, it can still be a nightmare experience as we've seen from many streamers, and that's not always during free fly which is worse.

Let me change the title of:

Don't invite your friends to the free fly if they do not meet hardware requirements

to:

Just don't invite your friends to play SC unless you want to lose your friends

Someone says:

You're not alone; a lot of people jump in oblivious to the fact that it's still in Alpha.

And the first reply starts:

Thats probably because some of them are just plain stupid.

Or, maybe, its because CIG's marketing and backers don't usually present a realistic image of what people should expect?

There is no "unexplored systems" in SC for what I know. All systems on the Starmap are known and been explored.
"Exploration" in SC is about finding dynamic POI/missions/spot in the known systems.
Discovering new system like in ED might not be possible in SC.

The plan was certainly to have undiscovered jump points at launch. (And according to this old collation of dev posts 'at launch, more jump points will be unknown than known.')

Broadly exploration was supposed to involve the discovery of new jump points, charting them, maintaining them, and cataloguing the contents of the new systems. On top of nosing around the available systems etc.

Tsunami Jiraiya says can you tell us

what exactly exploration entails and

what plotting a jump point will be like?

What exactly exploration entails? So a

lot that's like how long is a piece of

rope so there's a lot to exploration I

mean it's not just going to be you know

looking for undiscovered jump point and

plotting the jump point and going to a

new system on the other side there's

going to be just a lot of sort of

mapping that will happen so even in

systems that are known not all of the

spaces map so basically the there'll be

certain areas like on the trade lanes

and the general areas will pass that

will have now points on and will be

mapped to a certain extent but the vast

amount of it won't be mapped and so you

know maybe you find an asteroid field it

isn't on a map maybe the asteroid field

has some really good minerals or maybe

there's a rack so we're gonna try and

sort of add things to discover even in

known space so we're really sort of

trying to up the amount of things that

you can do if you're you're an explorer

where it's not just about jump points or

finding a new system although that's

pretty cool

but obviously that's you know we can't

do everything all at once the beginning

so that's all stuff in content or

bill-to and then the other thing I'll

say is that we're you know doing a lot

of work and

Dion sort of procedural sort of content

generation so you know I know a lot of

people think okay all star citizen is

completely scripted but or designed or

crafted and yes it has a huge amount

like terra and earth will definitely

obviously be pretty much everything will

be handcrafted but to build the universe

on the scale we need to sort of balance

some procedural stuff as well as crafted

stuff which is the way I think it's

actually the best way to build a big

expansive universe it's the same way

that we're approaching the gameplay you

know we can't script every mission so

we're actually building in such a way

that the universe itself dynamically

sort of runs itself and the players

interaction sort of generate a lot of

the missions and the intrigue and the

action so I didn't answer what will

plotting a jump be like well it should

be a lot of fun and very scary and very

risky so you know jump point sort of a

rip in the space-time continuum that

takes you instantly between almost it's

ly between two parts many you know many

many many light-years apart from each

other and so the concept with it is sort

of to have I don't know whether it's a

space-time fabric sort of I had a big

break if you want to think in surfing

terms that you want to surf in and

you've got to hit exactly the right

lines or else you're going to go off

track and potentially you know get

ripped apart or spat out some random

part of the universe and you know

obviously this will require a

combination of some skill some specific

equipment but once you've gone through

and you've recorded your jump so to

speak you can then turn around and sell

that to the government to sell that or

share it with your friends and you know

obviously you can name a jump point or a

system after you which should be pretty

cool but it should be like should be

like trying to ride the hairiest you

know big wave off the Northshore who I

but with like cool space effects

Excerpt on naming discoveries said:
Q: Can you name systems you discover?

A: When you discover a jump point, you can file a claim, and when you file a claim it can be named after you. But filing a claim makes it public, so you always have this dilemma. Do you want to keep it private, only for you and your friends, but if you keep it private and someone else finds the jump point and files the claim, then it will be named after them instead of you. So it's up to you when you discover things whether you want to share it with the world or not.

Still lots of time for all that to happen though ;)

Well we got Dev Diary 3 sometime in Dec, 1st Contact with Thargs date, a lot of confirmed no's that people can now deal with as they want but at least they know, a lot of Qs that obviously werent going to get answered and some details we already knew but they answered the questions asked about it, some happy for feedback and suggestions about that, and some wait and see we will announce when theres an update. We need better questions now for next week.

I wasn't quick enough so mine went unanswered, though I hope next dev diary will dive more into this:
Could you elaborate on how high, low or lack of gravity will be handled by spacelegs on the ground or in stations)? Would love it to have a sensible impact on gameplay and level design

It comes down to people really. It seems there is a large percentage of players who dream of pwning and roflstomping everybody like lv 1 orc peons and people getting aggrevated because they cant fight back which of course is the icing on top of the pro-cake. "No dude, I m just BETTER than you are, your mom said so too" are probably wild fantasies spooling in many Fortnite player brains each morning before they leave house for ̶k̶̶i̶̶n̶̶d̶̶e̶̶r̶̶g̶̶a̶̶r̶̶t̶̶e̶̶n̶ work.

And while there can be great matches to be had in PvP the majority (and I dont even need to check statistics for this...) of participants cheats, bots or cant be arsed and plays like lobotomized monkeys all the while lashing out at anybody who kills them, plays better than them, steals their kills, takes their loot etc etc. The reason doesnt really matter. People dont play well with each other for long durations of time. Its bad enough if you have group and PvP areas seperated from the main game but if PvP is the only possible activity.....its going to become a cesspool of toxicity quickly. Often enough all you are looking for is an opportunity to vent your frustration or get rid of the anxiety you accumulated over the day. PvE content is perfect for this. Even tho it makes all the AI-revolts-and-kills-all-humans stories very understandable all of a sudden. Anyway, if you are looking for any of these things and play a PvP game...well. I m sure everybody will have TONS of fun :)

damn, self projection?

I'll point out that no one logs into Minecraft and tries to force other players to farm. :) It's a certain sick personality that demands PvP everywhere.

It's also hilarious that these people think we miss them when they don't play our "non pure" games. :D

Another celebration of more money than sense.

Someone else in the thread is asked how much they are in for

North of 12k I’m afraid to look. I’ve have a discretionary fund that pays for cigars, evenings out at establishments I don’t want receipts from, kickstarters etc lol. I’ve been sick/ busy / locked down from covid so there is a few K in there that as far as my household is aware doesn’t exist. It’s the sad reality of being married a long time, and having a joint account. I used to own a company for close to a decade and got in the habit of not discussing how I spend the money I make. For some reason the wife wants input on things like pretend space ships. It’s actually easier to send CIG 1000$ for a ship then have the Volaire sim pit show up. There is no evidence of the cig ship. The sun pit is hard to hide lol. First world issues right?

12 freaking thousand. Funded through a "discretionary fund"

People with lots of disposable income are one of the reasons this s-show will take ages to fail. They will keep funding it until the day CIG turn off the lights.
