Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

The Squadron 42 trailer looks cool, but it's taken them outrageously long to develop and $600+ million dollars milked from backers. For these reasons it doesn't deserve a high score. CIG's scandalous business practices shouldn't be praised.
You're not in the 'supporting the development' camp then! How much did you lose? Can you get a refund?

No date. I think he said 'next 12 months'.
You have a link for that?

Just watched the last few minutes of the SQ42 vid (26 min, what are they smoking?)

Chris: “When we have a locked release date you will be first to know”

But this time is feature complete. For reals. Trust me.

That was the awesome announcement? You can’t make this biowaste up.

Yeah, lots of waffle about being in the polishing stage, blah blah. We heard the exact same stuff in 2014 re SQ42. 9 years and they are still offering up the same guff.

So, here's a thought. SQ42 requires working Vanduul in game. Does anyone think if CIG had working Vanduul they wouldn't have shouted it from the highest rooftops?

Sorry, I watched it back. 12 months was for everything presented before the Squadron section. I updated my comment.

If I were CR, I would never give a date again. And I guess with no publisher on his back he won't have to.
Let's mark their words and check how much of this handwavium will really happen 12 months from now, and in which state...

I still not have enough time to waste for watching what they crunched for those past months. But I assume Golgot will have a lot of work during 2024.

Well after watching that SQ42 demo seems obvious to me that now Croberts expecting in following year more&more citizens to ask that annoying question:"Where is my game?" so that's why his calling for more&more white knights to HOLD THE LINE!!!

Love isn't always on time!!! Oh yeah!

And...

The faithful living in their own little bubble of reality.

Also, got to laugh. After years of being told no Pyro until server meshing is in.... they are adding Pyro without server meshing, undermining years of excuses from the faithful.

So, if they can add new systems without SM, where are all the systems that the faithful declared were just waiting on SM to be added?

Wasn't Odin meant to be complete since its needed for SQ42? Or are they holding that back because checks notes spoilers.

Also has anything been shown about the PU other than possibly updated visuals? Tony Z showing the progress on the economy and integration of all aspects of the mmo with that? Etc?
I mean, this is some of the stuff I think should be going in to PU in that 'next 12 months' time frame. Is that what you meant?

Hairstyles (and beards yay!)
Improved water
Fire, with gameplay loop
Better collision damage
Blood, sweat, tears and hygiene
DLSS2 & Ray tracing
Cloth physics
Updated UI including star map (thank f...!)
More depth to Reputation system
Rework of FPS gameplay, weapons
Combat and Navigation modes for spaceships
Ship engineer, for ship systems and repairs
Updated in-space movement

They won't put Pyro in Live without server meshing though, will they?

It looks like Infinite Warfare 2, which is OK, I guess. It is interesting how they are not worried about spoilers anymore, even if the game still does not exist.

With a couple exceptions that is pretty much all updated visuals and UI stuff. Shiny. Where is the PU economy, and all aspects that need to integrate with it, including all the types of related nodes, production chains and all the economy integration with the rest of the game (related missions, reputation, org territory control etc etc).

In other words where is all the staff that is supposed to make this mmo an actual mmo? Seems very little of that was discussed in this CitCon. Tony Z absence is amazing and an eye opener. Seems CIG is happy letting SC rot as a mediocre static arena session as long as the shiny stuff helps them sale jpgs.

I mean, having cool hair and tattoos is nice, but where is the frikking game?

By live do you mean the PU, the PTU, or the new preview channel (ie: the pre-alpha, the pre-pre-alpha, or the pre-pre-pre-alpha)?

CIG said it was coming to the preview channel soon(TM), without SM. After that, i guess it will either a) be pulled, not to be seen again until next Citizen Con, or b) will make its way into the PTU then the PU.

11+ years, 600+ million dollars.... mainly basic stuff, including lots that come part of game engines as standard these days or require little work to implement.

12 months to add these, with around 1000 employees.

Absoloutely shocking.

It's real...real animation from UE5 or something other than their game.
Chris Roberts himself said that three weeks ago they had a breakthrough - and the RGB corridor is a literal techdemo of that.
So they didn't have anything working in the slightest before that.

As in, nothing worked when they first hyped Jump Points, Pyro, etc.
For years and years.
It just took an immense amount of disappointment in their playerbase, to the point it severely impacted their revenue, that the "breakthrough" happened.

And it isn't working right now either - if it was then they'd play their game instead of showing a carefully controlled tech demo.
CR also said something like if things take longer than 10 months, they become stale. Who knew he wasnt referencing how long they'd take to release an alpha?

Did you guys noticed in that flyby video of "Star Engine" that Croberts also invented new fancy words for ICE they calling it now:"PHYSICALIZED FROZEN OCEAN"; LoL I guess when whales saw that they was like:" Whoa that looks same as Ice but it's not it's 100x better it's PHYSICALIZED FROZEN OCEAN with special texture mashing that can be done only in our Star Engine!!!"

Looking forward to them selling ice-hole cutting tools, for ice fishing on other worlds. But if you dont cut it right, it breaks the ice..you know...for fidelity. Also...will be 10 more years till they can release the game, because they cant get the ice-cutting thing to work as CR wants it.

Just watched this video from Obsidian Ant about the latest from CIG, there was a Citizen Con or something that happened right?

Wow. It just sounded like he was regurgitating all the same old lies and promises about "You can do this, and this will happen and if you do this that will have gameplays that affect more things that will will be awesome and next generationly seemless and will do the other other thing thats never been done ever and Star Engine licencing new techbollocks...." and so on etc.

I admit, I'm out of the loop I got bored with laughing at SC and Oddysey sucked so bad I gave up on Elite. But has something changed? What is OA playing at? Is he that short of things to talk about that hyping SC is the only thing left? Or are you all about to be proved wrong?

Lets say we're all proven wrong...that'd mean SC is released and we can go in, play it, and actually discuss the game. That is the actual purpose of this thread. So, it'll just be how we all hoped it would be, 8 years ago. Somehow, I dont think that will be the case. But, yes, I'd be floored, but happy to be proven wrong.

As it stands, my guess is it's still a con-job and what they've shown is more fluff...and it's working....yes! indeed! CR has done it!...that crazy has lured potential billions to his coffers instead of mere millions.

My favourite part was the 5 mins of Quantum Travel.

Boy, that was absoloutely riveting!
That's what suggests to me it's just a loading screen/system. When SC was able to run on my PC, a few years ago, QT took 15 to 20 minutes to go just to another planet. If that time is any shorter, to other people, it's because their PC loads it faster....hence, a loading system. Err, I know some ships/drives make this faster/slower though.
