Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Well, it is quickly followd by "stopped suffocating". Always keep your helmet on! Looking at log messages in any game is not for the faint-hearted ;)
The F7C MkII produces an awful lot of messages about incomplete models and animations. Maybe it needs a rework.

Ah is that a regular message then? Yeah ok, nothing fancy then. (OP implied they actually died on spawn etc :/)

Think this has to be my favourite log message of all time though ;)

PS, lol 😁

Yes, that is a regular joke. I never died from it. I have no idea what a "breathing helper" is, though :)

Yay, Argon's still in there 😁

-> Gas: Argon, Mass: 0.001161339,

I wonder if the 'breathing helper' is another short-term fudge? It seems to be some invisible, localised item? Possibly for when the room system fails etc?

(Maybe similar to the cheeky incap revive the game seems to do now, if you're taken out by a ramp collision or whatever).

Here's the SA-accountant take on Calders monies owed:

You don't really have to guess. The Calders invested $46m in 2018 and $17m in 2019 for a total of $63 million. Half of that went into the UK group $31.5m. The UK group according to PricewaterhouseCoopers had a liability of that investment in 2022 of £48m (based on three years revenue of $277m). Given three year revenue of ~$350m you can assume a 26% increase. So the UK group would owe at present (2024) value have a liability of £60m. Double that to include the US group it's £120m. Convert it to dollars for our American friends and the current value of the puts would be $154m.

Stu coming up with similar figures elsewhere.

Those are slash and burn figures right there if they were to attempt to extract that at the next opportunity (Q1 2025)...

Only thing not accurate in that account is this bit:

The UK group according to PricewaterhouseCoopers had a liability of that investment in 2022 of £48m

Note 28´s estimate of the £48m debt is CIG´s writing, not the auditor´s. The auditor comments are in page 9.

I thought that was widely known and that CR was just using that as a "tribute" to the movie. Would be hilarious if CR did not know though.

Yeah that's a succinct summary of what we chatted about when i got similar numbers.

I also estimate that 2023 was a substantial loss for CIG (due to greatly increased costs), i'm guessing a deficit somewhere like $15m-$20m. Which would put CIG's bank balance at an estimated $45m, less than a third of what Calders are owed.

Now if we assume that $45m balance estimate is correct, and also assume 2024 results in a break-even year, and also also assume Sq404 is "ready" for an early 2025 release...
Will the Calders want CIG to risk most/all of that $45m on marketing Sq404, in the hope of selling roughly 3m+ copies to get the $150m revenue (approx $50 per copy, after taxes) necessary for their investment returns? Is that marketing budget enough to sell that many copies? Would a smaller, minimum marketing campaign be more efficient and/or prudent, to sell enough copies?

Edit: corrected my broken maths.

The way I read it is thus: Calders: "Squadron 404 needs to be released by 2025 or we'll exercise our option" Also Calders: "Star Citizen needs to be released by 2028 or we'll exercise our option"

If the above is correct then the amount 'owed' to the Calders by 2028, if CIG actually release Squadron 404, would be even higher. It could be speculated that there are other terms in relation to that, ie; that Squadron 404 is released in a window sufficiently before the option exercise timeframe so that they can see that it is a profitable game, if it tanks, then they may still exercise their option. This being due to the fact that CIG have stated that Squadron 404 sales will be used to fund development of Star Citizen, and will probably need to, based on the pledge system starting to falter as development seems to be in an endless rut after twelve years. Though if Squadron 404 has a successful launch then I could imagine that success could carry through to Star Citizen in relation to pledges etc..However, if Squadron 404 tanks, it's got to be pretty much over for the whole thing, if it isn't already in all actuality.

So if the above scenario is reasonably accurate, everything is hinging on Squadron 404 saving gaming as we know it, some time this year, probably Q4 this year. It will either release well or make Odyssey look like it was the most ready release of all time. I just hope they release it on Steam so that it can face the critique of not just the faithful, who to this day still insist that there's more gameplay in Star Citizen than in nearly all other AAA games.

edit; a comma here a missing "be" there..

I would expect some serious in game monetization.

Yeah this leads to an interesting spin on the supposed Q1 2025 deadline for SQ42. What if it's not the Calders pushing it, so much as CIG desperate to pre-empt any damaging exit by them ¯\(ツ)/¯

(I wonder whether the Calders could stop CIG using their war chest on a maximum marketing run though? Aside from it being the public reason for the investment, would they have that degree of control? CR has the numbers to dictate at board level etc, presumably. [Unless the Calders nobble some terrible turncoats like the Turb lot ;). But I kinda see them riding the hype vehicle to destruction.])

The best guess at the mo is probably the Pipeline 'leak' of a Q1 2025 target. (Various other aspects align with CIG's public 'Star Citizen 1.0' chat since etc)

Provisional as CIG's deadlines are, if they're finally rushing to meet one, then comedy may ensue for sure ;)
