Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Not sure if this is meaningful, but amongst a run of new hires a SQ42 Designer has been let go:

Hi everyone, posts aren't usually my thing but I'm sad to say that my time at Cloud Imperium Games has come to an end 😢 This has come as a massive shock to me, as working there was a huge dream of mine. However, I'm honoured to have been given the opportunity to work with some truly amazing people and I wish both them and the project massive success.

They were a student hire who'd clocked up 2yrs.

  • I worked as a Level Designer I working on Squadron 42. Often taking ownerships of specific levels within the game. Responsible for Scripting and General Maintenance of Missions and Game Levels.

Reads like copy pasted CIG approved announcement with a heavy dose of NDA.
Out of curiousity, is this guy some well known key player? Sub-department head or something? Why does he feel his leaving is worthy of telling everyone in a company of 1000 people?

Speaking of NDA, the first group of devs to leave CIG, the ones with actual industry experience are mighty quiet about this project even though their NDA period must be over by now.

Nah he's just a student hire, not a major player or anything.

(Last time posts like this appeared it flagged the downsizing in the US though. But I kinda doubt there's cutbacks in Manchester, which is where he's based)

Regarding long-term NDAs, from the bits and bobs I've read from ex-CIG devs they often just want to forget about their CIG time / move on etc. The few that do feel the urge to warn devs / players tend to do it anonymously, or in private. (Badmouthing a prior company is kinda frowned on. The next employer tends to mark your card as a potential whistleblower etc).

This just in from Zyloh on Spectrum: "We are not planning to make an in-game Bengal tour available - the messaging is referencing the venue theme/decor. Sorry!"

Not sure how that meshes with: "aboard an active duty RSI Bengal" and "invites you step into its iconic vessel in-person"

Basically more horse manure marketing from CIG.

Say one thing, deliver another.
